Wonderful first excavations! I recently experienced the thrill of photographing present day Tikal for my RUclips viewers, thanks to these, the intrepid explorers of the 1950s! I recommend my Guatemalan guide Armando, pictured powering a river-crossing.

Whoa!...This is a very important footage not just for you as a museum but for us as Guatemalans.
I have never seen actual live film from Tikal in the early days when was not even know among us in the country.

Lamento que este tipo de proyectos no se realizaran en por lo menos otros diez sitios arqueológicos importantes del área de Petén antes de que fueran sistematicamente saqueados. 😕

So crazy... This was more than 60 year ago and doesn't looks to much different from our current biological field work on norther Guatemala.

BEAUTIFUL archival footage....!! Where to this day, it is estimated that ALL archaeological excavations combined have uncovered only about 5% of The Illustrious Mundo Maya!! Next to Cambridge, Penn State is unarguably the #1 American 'source' of top PhD field researchers AND necessary funding....

PS: And its also wonderful to see that after "after finding a major find", that said funding continues in creating / establishing a surrounding site community "in the jungle" to support both justifiably-enlarged archaeology teams, and, the often sizeable local work crews (and their families) required to further such time-intensive excavations. Thankfully, THAT continues to this very day.... dotted throughout the Calakmul, Peten, and La Lacandona!!

I heard the Americans stole shit from those ruins under the guise that alot of it was "trash" dug out to clear excavation pathways. When I went to Tikal it is widely accepted among University professors and archeological experts who double as tour guides on their spare time. Who knows if its true but it makes alot of sense.
