The original HomePod is a bargain when you compare it to wireless speakers with similar audio quality from B&O or B&W. I too raced out to buy a 2nd HomePod when I heard they were discontinued. I hope they come out with a 'HomePod Pro' - something that towers over the original HomePod would be amazing.
People demanding cheap inferior speakers refused to buy the HomePod without even giving them a chance by actually hearing them. Also a lot of RUclips reviewers told people to flat out not to buy the HomePod. They wanted Apple to copy amazon and Google. These people are clearly not music lovers and many of them are very anti-Apple and deeply immersed in Google and Amazon ecosystem or they have android devices.
If you are going to college you ought to be able to use your own common sense... Get 8Gb if you program and bump up to 16Gb if you have an extra $200 to invest into yourself...
Great video. IMO the failure of the HomePod had less to do with cost and more to do with connectivity. As you point out, Spotify is not as good on the HomePod. The biggest problem was this - can I get rid of google home or Alexa with these HomePods? The answer, even for the HomePods Mini is no. As such, HomePod Mini will also fail until Apple improves connectivity. Google Home and Alexa just connect to way more smart products. AirPods are successful because no one looks to turn off their lights with AirPods. With AirPods Apple can get away with less connectivity. With smart speakers, people will look to Google Assistant products or Alexa.

Going from HomePod to HomePod mini and THEN to HomePod mini PRO sounds like some serious calculus derivative and integral acrobatics 😂
Long story short, they didn’t follow their usual formula of base model first then pro and it bit them in the ass!
