- Most of the credit rightfully goes to rookie goalie Jakub Dobes. The rising star stopped 22 of 23 shots last night, plus two more in the shootout, securing his second consecutive win since his promotion. After making history with a shutout in his debut, Dobes now boasts an impressive 0.48 Goals-Against Average (GAA) and a stellar .982 Save Percentage (SV%). His performance is making the Canadiens look like absolute geniuses.

Goalies are by far my favorite players on teams, some of the things they do are just insane? I've been loving to see Dobes play and really hope we get to see him more this season!
I’ve always thought that goalies from the Slavic countries are more balanced mentally and more dutifully attend their crease like:
“I guess this is my life now, I must perform extraordinarily to represent my mother country.”
But really I think they’re all just psychos.
To stand in net to take multiple pucks at most 100 mph. Yeah I would say their pretty crazy lol.

I love this kid in net for the habs, hope he can stay with it, he looks happy and enthusiastic, which is what the team needs to see from their goaltenders. Kudos for Jakub!
Thanks for this extra on Dobes because he's adding excitement to the Habs hockey season. I think his winning contribution in his first two NHL games against the Panthers and Avs helped his transition into the Canadiens locker room. It seems like he's passed the trial by fire 🔥 cause he was stopping Avs' goals with his glove and throwing them back out on the ice, savage like 😮 wow. Mad respect for Dobes on his performance so far.
Fn right I've been screaming for 10 months to bring him up. Mental calmness and confidence, great athleticism, sucks up the puck and sound fundamentals. They can't score low on Dobes.
I thought there was more of a plan with Primeau but in the end I feel like they gave him the right opportunities (and then some) to prove himself and he couldn’t rise to the occasion.
The good news for Primeau is that he did great in his first game back in Laval so maybe his story isn’t finished in the big show.
I’ve watched a lot of hockey…a lot….he passes the eye test…which is an old school way of saying he looks right. He’s calm, he’s confident…he’s frickin huge…he’s got a little swagger….time will tell
What being a goalie comes down to is reaction time, athleticism, and learned skills. Jakub looks like the real deal. By stopping those two shoot-out shots, he literally won the game for our Habs!!!!
I’ve been a Habs fan from way back to the Jean Beliveau days. I’ve seen a lot of goalies come and go. When I saw Dobes play Colorado though, I got the tingles in my spine. He’s the real thing! So excited for him and his future.

Same hear - I started as a Habs Habs fan around 71/72 when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Dryden was such a huge story back in the 70’s. Feels a bit similar now.
Nice to see other oldies around. I sometimes feel like a dinosaur when I mention players that played pre 2010.

Dude! HE IS INSANE!!!! I was so excited for him to make his way to the league, been following him since early NCAA. I know the hype around Fowler, but hey, Dobes will be fighting for his spot and he is SOLID. His size is perfect to be a strong goalie, when on his knees, he looks like Helebyuck, almost covers to the top corner with his shoulder. But I agree with you about looking like Hasek. I want him to get the number 1 role next year, but we need to pace him in slowly to make sure we don't burn him out. Happy New Year btw and good luck with your channel.

Xhekaj was a big part of Laval's defence getting stabilized last season, so in those weeks I'm sure he bonded well with Dobes, while also turning the team around for the better! Laval nearly made the playoffs after an abysmal start. Dobes is going to be a solid NHL goalie, already is.

I’ll be happy with the best Dobes. I love what I’ve seen so far and if he keeps improving that will be great. Some folks seem to have anointed Fowler already so it’ll be great to see some competition in the near future. The more talent the better.

Seen him play a ton in Laval first-hand, and this guy is 100% legit...serious talent here, large guy moves well, positionally very sound and pucks stick to him.

It's been more than half a century since I saw a rookie 23 yr old goalie just starting his career with Montreal.
The last one led the team past the 'undefeatable' Bruins all the way to winning a Stanley Cup and a Conn Smythe trophy to boot.
The following year he won the Calder trophy.
When he retired he helped Montreal win 6 Stanley Cups....4 in a row.
Ken Dryden was an imposing figure in nets.
Are we seeing lightning strike twice?
Can Montreal do what St. Louis did a few short years ago....from nowhere to the promised land?
Montreal just knocked off the last 4 Cup winners.....

Reaching the playoffs would be huge, thinking that there is a chance for a gritty young team to WIN the Stanley cup is half insane half something that could legitimately happen in this wild sport.
I was reading comments comparing Dobes with Price or Roy or even Dryden. But in my eyes, he is a bigger bodied version of Hasek. About the same athletisism, same level of puck tracking, and the kicker for me, same attitude. What I love the most about him is the thing that caused Primeau his job: the glove positioning and speed. He looks legit for now at least and I am optimistic for the future.

Hey CONGRATS for the 7K subs!!!! Dobes is for real no doubt about it. His poise as well as his intensity speaks volumes. I agree its a short sample size but he showed great potential in Laval and earned his spot with the big team. Time will tell but I feel really good about him.
This can be really great. He has the ability to be at the right place, placing himself behind the puck all the time. He make it look easy to be a goalie...... Congrats with 7K sub btw🤩🤩
He’s killing it. But I think the defense have been elevating their play on this road trip. Carrier and Guhle specifically have been playing amazing which I feel helped dobesh move into his role a little easier

Dobeš looks amazing atm. I'll give him 10 games to make a better judgement but the kid has incredible reflexes. He is instinctive and has an amazing positioning. I'm old enough to remember the first games of Ken Dryden and then in the 80's, Patrick Roy first games. This guy gives me the same vibes. I loved Carrey but I was never as trilled by his rooky games compared to what I saw from Dobeš first 2 games. I live in Germany for the last 10 years and have NHL.tv subscription this year because the team composition exited me before the start of the season. I was glad I did just to see those 2 games. I was very happy for him and I really hope he keeps it up.

Don’t forget he played 2 pre-season games and he was very very good!
He definitely remind me A LOT of Price. Big goalie with great vision who doesn't give rebounds, catch everything with his glove and make the most desperate save look easy. He look invincible and teams try to run him over because they don't have the slightest idea how to beat the guy(we need to protect that man at all cost).
We also did the same thing with Price. Throwing him to the wolves against the Penguins when they were at their peak with Crosby and Malkin and he looked like he owned the net too. Sam got some serious competition for #1 now. It's good for the team and our chances of making the playoffs increased by a lot.
Channel just keeps getting better and better, either that or I am becoming more of a Canadiens fan.
By the way, how do you get the footage for your videos? Just digitally record it from the service or pirate site you’re watching the games on? The more I watch your videos the more I want to start a channel for the young Utah HC team.
Dobes exceeds all my expectations, I would have loved to see him at the beginning of the season, when the Habs struggled much more. I am still thinking of the duo, Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler that someone wrote today. I belive that it result in Habs dominating the league even more.
Young goalies can often have great numbers, look solid because there isn’t an NHL scouting book on them yet
Silovs with Vancouver did great until Edmonton figured him out as that series went along
Some turn out to be steady, others like Roy remain stellar
But others end up a goad in the pan
Binnington had that great 1/2 season & Stanley cup but once the book was out on him he’s just average
Cam Ward came out of nowhere and won a cup as well only to fizzle off
I love how Dobes looks, he’s a big goalie that plays big, love his tracking, he plays the puck smartly too.
Primeau looked like Irbe out there some games so size doesn’t mean much unless you can use it to your advantage
Right now the Habs have 2 goalies that give them a fighting chance against any opponent
It’s a great thing and I hope he keeps it up

It's a bit early to tell, what matters is consistency.
Overall though, he's the best goalie we have. I don't feel scared like with the others that can just fall under pressure.
His positioning is quite good, he follows the play and is good with the rebounds.
I would not be surprised if he can goal at .910 like in the AHL.
All the best goalies are big, but also fast and battle in somewhat unorthodox ways at times.
That save on Rantanen’s one timer can only be made by a big guy with agility, and battle.
Dobes has that “IT” factor.
Maybe teams has not much scouting report on Dobes so he's still has not been figured out but man, those saves were impenetrable as he did stretch as long as he can

He is the number one goalkeeper for the habs
His positioning is masterful. Reminds me of Carey Price's ability to be in a good position consistently.

To me, he looks identical to Price in net. I’m not in any way comparing his abilities or saying he’ll get to that level, but his positioning, stance, movements and calmness resemble a lot of what Carey used to do.

In my opinion, Dobeš has 2 shutouts in 2 games.
I do not agree with the NHL rules that allowed the only Colarado goal, kicking motion or not, that should not be a goal.

Goalies tell me it’s the mental rest that’s needed to reset their focus.
Base jumping. Navy demolition diver. Montreal Canadian goalie. Pretty much same category
He is a large man with the fast movements of a Fleury....and top that off with a lightening fast glove...and how fast he is to regain his feet ala Tritiach (sp) makings of a superstar in truth...makes a young Fowler almost equally talented goalie an interesting issue for Hughes...
It’s unfortunate for Monty, but Dobes will steal his spot before the end of the season, especially if a playoffs spot is on the line. He looks much more stable between the pipes.

I’ll tell you what I see. He’s fast. He goes from the ice to his skates ultra quick. He swallows up pucks and gives minimal rebounds. Has a good glove and most importantly, unlike Primeau is he’s aware. Primeau would make a stop and freeze, unsure what to do. Dobes is scanning/moving right away. My 2 cents.

Dobes' future will depend on how he is able to mitigate the "book" the pros will soon have on him. Some goaltenders are able to morph their game to address the weakness in their game; others rely on hoping their weakness is difficult to exploit.
So is Dobas another Primeau or Halak or Price? We will find out before the end of the season. I am hoping he is the superior goaltender a Cup contending team needs.

He's only stopped 58 out of 59 shots, and the one he "missed" was off skates and not his fault. If Jacob Fowler is as good as Habs fans think, these two will be in Montreal for the next decade, and opponents will be tearing their hair out.
It's gonna be fun when we have a Jakub/Jacob 1/2 on the team (sorry Sammy).

Dominik Hasek is a modern day clown. Sure he was a great goalie but his post hockey persona is one of incredible stupidity.

Dobes is better then Montembeault and will steal his spot by the end of the year. If Monty gets injured , its done. I respect Fowler's talent but i dont think he can take over Dobes. Dobes frame is better suited for the NHL anyway.
