Italy is a very strong team even USA will have a hard time against this team.
More of the Italians FINDING open shots with their quick ball movement and their players off-ball actions. A pass moves faster than the feet. So by the time an Italian shoots, the defender from the Philippines is a step or two too late in the close-out.

They did everything they could just to win the game but suddenly they lost now it's time to change the Philippine coach to a better one, awesome move Philippines kudos to Jordan Clarkson for playing with the Gilas ❤❤❤
I hope the SBP will conduct debriefing and tackle what are the weaknesses and strengths of the Gilas, and record it for their reference to build a stronger team for international competitions. Develop our GUARDS to be more all around players, develop everybody to be a 3-Point Shooters, and instill to them that everybody is a shooter, a rebounder. Watch the games of the Europeans, the American, and the African an teams and use them to develop a more advance and effective offensive and defensive team. From those games, SBP will learn a lot. They have to plot the future of the team whatever you have learned from watching those games. And, you have to record it as your template so that whoever be the assigned coach, their is a strategy to follow, and implement. Please TAKE NOTE AND KEEP IT FOR YOUR REFERENCE.
I agree with a lot of what your stating. I'd include Japan as a point of reference or template. I think Gilas has a little more talent but the Japanese style of play is relentless. They're in constant motion, and looking to move the ball to find an open teammate. Their guards are always pushing the offense and looking to create for a teammate. Using the US or Europe as a template is not a good start because Gilas does not have the talent pool to execute. It's time they invite all prospective players including Fil-Am players if they truly want it to define "Gilas." Otherwise, they should be called Team "OK Lang."
Gilas needs another blatche. A 6’11 that at least played in the NBA.

@@anthony-L.A.6946 I'd have to disagree that Center is the most important position. In the 70s & 80s, yes it was. Now it's tall wing who can play 4 positions. KD type - 6'8 or taller. But I digress - they have so many needs.
Gilas played its heart and mind out. They played a good game. However, Azzurri was just too good today on 3's. The point difference is only because of the 3 points scored by Italy. Its heartbreaking. But things happen anytime and any where.
This is the mindset that holds back Filipino brand basketball. "Oh, it's okay. They only lost because of X". Thinking that a loss isn't bad because of a small point difference should be a wake up call. For a country with such passion, they sure settle a lot. The fans settle. The Filipino Pride gets in the way of real improvement and flexibility. There is no desire to improve and develop skills enough to compete more closely with other countries

Gilas started with great energy. Have to find a way to maintain for the entire game. Also, pick and roll defense is atrocious. #16 got blown by at least 4x from just the highlights alone. They're missing a true PG who can be a playmaker. Besides their problems on defense both in man and zone, Gilas does NOT share the ball. They had 14 team assists and if you subtract Clarkson's team leading 6 assists, you have 8 for the entire game! Now that is horrendous. I thought 12 team assists in the 1st game (when you minus Clarkson's) was bad. Does this team not want to pass? This team needs to be blown up and restarted; however, there are some players like Ramos, Abando, Malonzo, and even keep Fajardo to mentor these young centers. Fajardo needs to teach the other bigs how to be physical and use your body. Now I see why Sotto doesn't get minutes. He seems like a nice kid but man is he super soft. Most NBA superstars hit weights even after regular season games. He needs to learn how to use leverage. Teach him plyometrics and do it every day to get better. I see so many speaking badly of the coaching. Maybe that needs to change too. Select a system that will create a buy in from these players. I see so many good Fil-Am players - maybe start identifying these college kids who play D1. There are so many with Pinoy blood although I know that will create some hate with my kababayans who think they should only use local players only. Choose the best skilled players who will play hard for the minutes they are on the floor.
Agreeee, someone who's playmaker and leads in the court is missing just like Castro's and also about the assists it will improve they just need time probably its connected to their chemistry, but they still put a good fight compared before. They did their best Magandang Laban.

Facts. They spammed it. Fajardo stayed with drop coverages ALL NIGHT and Italy took advantage of that, and Chot didn't adjust. Such a poorly-constructed coaching staff. ITA killed Gilas from the perimeter -- that perimeter D was almost non-existent!
Congrats to Gilas, you did a Great job. Your games against those teams showed you are at par with these team, its a matter of a little bit more hard work and luck to win. Congrats to Coach Cult Reyes, and the coaching staffs, you can hold your heads up, you did a great job. Not only the Vilas lost all its 3 qualifying games, also other strong teams registered a 0-3 records. Cheer up, Gilas, Habitat kayo.

Watching this video clip, you can easily spot where did Chot Reyes mismanaged the efficient ROTATION of his players. Most of the time ISOLATION PLAY Dribble Drive System have been applied and this makes the Italian Team can read easily the game plan of the Philippine Team. Having that said if ONLY the head coach of the Philippine knew how to apply EUROPEAN Motion Offense and Defense System would overwhelm the Italian Team. By and large, one of the big mistakes of the Philippine Head Coach is the ROTATION of the players. When you see a good tandem of twin tower like EDU and SOTTO playing at the same time, you do NOT need to removed immediately either one of the player so they can maintain a big scoring gap against Italy, on this case the head coach seems do not understand what he was doing and how important the momentum of any players inside the court
Gilas just playing way too slow, needs to rotate on defense quicker
Don't forget the Italians also *move the ball quickly,* so that makes the defender fall behind by a step or two.

Sadly we are ass in any type of sports. Its so frustrating that Philippines have never won any game.They could have practice more and change the freaking coach. They need more preparations. its fatigue. lahat ng scouting reports ni dom repub, angola, and italy is to "contain JC". wala nang ibang bonafide bucket-getter ang gilas kundi si JC. so yang mga sunod-sunod na mintis and errors is because of fatigue. too much burden on his shoulders.

Practice imitating european positions of players and their formation on attacking defending screening and rebounding. Man to man the whole entire game rotation of players motion offense . Kaya natin yan next time basta di lang si chot ang coach everyeuropean player isvtrained to handle the ball bigs or small sa atin small lang ang inatasan mag dribble kaya yong mga bigs natin hanggang poste at perimeter lang .
