Today, I stormed the cockpit of an Ecliptic Stiletto and took over the ship so I could use it for starship customization in my next video.

Now that I'm finally getting around to building my own ship, I can't get a single one to spawn. I'm going from planet to planet, hopping around different locations on desolate moons, and the only things I'm finding are Vanguard Raptors and civilian ships that I don't want to steal. I found two Ecliptic ships, but both took off the moment I killed their disembarked crew, and when I tried to get inside before killing them, the door said "inaccessible" for some reason.
I'm desperately looking around for a Crimson Fleet ship to land somewhere, because I know I've gotten aboard one of those before and had the opportunity to take it. I just didn't at the time because I didn't know what that would do to my stuff on the Frontier, and didn't need it yet.

You’re more likely to find ship landing sites on planets in systems that are high level, such as level 40-45-50-55 systems. Are you could go to a mission board and get a “destroy a ship” quest. You can take out their engines and dock with the ship and take it over, and that counts as destroying it. Hope that helps.

@@HalfwayNuts I landed randomly just after typing that out, and finally found an Ecliptic ship I could board. Now I'm at Deimos getting ready to completely rebuild her as my first custom ship.

Can't agree more - appropriating a ship while it's on the ground is the easiest way to nab them. The engines on those Ecliptic Stillettos are worth having - full power at only 4 energy input, and the Stillettos have a bunch of dead weight that can be eliminated if you're just looking to make a light attack ship. don't forget to fill your viewers in on registering the ship before hitting a ship broker - much cheaper that way, can be done from the ship status menu.

Yeah I overlooked the registration part. In the next video where I customize this ship, I actually made it heavier and longer and I paid the price… 😆

I think they may have patched the self-registration savings unless you've put points into the better prices skill. I'd agree that the Stiletto is a nice ship to convert but the next ship up in the Ecliptic line, the Bayonet, has some engines that you'd normally need the starship engineering skill to equip. The best I've seen for capturable A reactor ships to convert (at low levels) is the Va'run Hymn. You have to strip a lot of excess items off of it but it comes with a good shield and engines and a decent shield (not as good as the Vanguard shield but decent).

My problem is ships that land on these random spots never open! Also when I go docking and pirating ships, they're completely empty, no enemies whatsoever. Not sure if anyone else has this bug...

Really?! That’s surprising. Whenever I go to the landing site the ships always let me in, even if it’s UC or Freestar ships. And whenever I dock with ships there’s always enemies practically everywhere. I wish I could explain that one but unfortunately I can’t…
