Hands down, you have the best videos on ancient Rome on the net. Always entertaining, always visually striking, always enlightening. Thank you very much.
After I watch your videos, I always sit here wondering what ancient Rome was like. Would it have been a hard life? Exciting? Exhilarating? The marvels of Rome.
Great questions... Your status could be a huge factor. But life was typically quite hard. Basic amenities for us would have been a luxury. Still, what an amazing city to have witnessed!
It was hard. Basic amenities were lacking as Darius mentions and also basic human rights, like the right to personal safely such as the right to freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. Did not exist unless you had wealth and reputation. Article of the UDHR was centuries away. Let is be grateful. But also feel fortunate to have access to the ancient world, a heritage of every human being.
OMG…My Mom and I visited the Colosseum in the early 80’s. At that time getting down to the Hypogeum was not possible because there was so much over growth and flooding. It was also home to masses of feral cats and other animals. It’s now time to revisit Rome.
Thanks Darius for your incredible tours of Ancient Rome.and Italy. Your knowledge and history telling is fun and exciting to watch. Your the real life Indiana Jones!!👌👌😀🤩 👌👌😀
Such a massive and elaborate place. Their engineering minds were remarkable, even compared to today's architecture and technology. Although the brutality for entertainment could be compared to the brutality of a criminals death sentence, they still had the needs and civility for a referee. Where or what is your favorite place in Italy? I would love to get there, but if I can't, I can see through your videos. Thank you so much. 👏 😲
Thank you! That’s a great question. Most is my base - so I’m Rome- biased! Right now I’m just excited to share a lot of my travel - Crete, Albania, Egypt, Croatia, Jordan!
Great video man! I only was in the stands when I was there 25 years ago and it was underwhelming and I was actually wondering what the stuff in the middle was. I'll have to go back soon!
Interesting fact our modern arenas follow the same design. The colosseum uses the same methods to allow people to enter and exit the building as we do today. The only improvements that we use are escalators and elevators.
Darius, thank you! I would like to see the Gladiatori nell’ Arena. There aren’t tickets available? I tried through Coop Culture. Perhaps you can suggest another way?
Hi Darius, do you know if Silvano Mattesini replicas are available for purchase by the general public? Or could you suggest some other quality producer?
The emperor had asked how they kept the fields for themselves, and young men and women under the age of 25 had defended themselves as gladiators at the Colosseum
I did Roman re enacting and trained to make the kit and i have to laugh when i hear the phrase .. Parade helmet, because it is decorative, really...... The Romans were showy and loved decoration and also painted everything.. including their kit, ... They didn't have the money to have such amazing helmets made just to wear them on some parade..also the Gladiator schools had plenty of people on site to repair and restore any damaged kit.
Ha, I would rather get as far away as possible from the lives of the gladiators (and even further away from the lives of the people executed in places like this). The video is very interesting though.

Thank you for creating, elaborations, and uploading. Thank you sir.
My pleasure!
I love watching all things Roman. Darius does a great job boiling it down for the non-historian. What an amazing city!
Thank you! Yes- eternal Rome!!

@DariusArya I look forward to seeing those videos. I'm not familiar with the others, but Jordan and Egypt's history is remarkable.
Fantastic ❤
Grazie!
Thanks ..i will go see this in October..already my 3rd trip to Rome this year

Rome is my hometown and I love it😊
Got to go there

Hopefully next year I will get to see Rome.
Great.
Hey Darius. You've just been on the TV here in England, on a programme called Colosseum.
Yes, History channel. Enjoy!
Darius, thank you! I would like to see the Gladiatori nell’ Arena. There aren’t tickets available? I tried through Coop Culture. Perhaps you can suggest another way?
Great
When were the Ludus Magnus and other gladiatorial schools built? Roughly when the Colosseum was, I should imagine.
Domitianic
Great video! What specific ticket/tour gets you this level of access to the Hypogeum?
The underground tour, of course! Go to parco Colosseo or Coopcultura or walks of Italy!
Hi Darius, do you know if Silvano Mattesini replicas are available for purchase by the general public? Or could you suggest some other quality producer?
No- but google him / website and see what he offers.

I wonder if a referee was ever attacked during a heated bout 🤔 does anyone know if that has ever been written down?
Your videos make me want to retire in rome❤

Do you have to translate the Latin yourself or were you taught to pronounce it that way? That's the 3rd way I hear "hypogeum" pronounced in English.
