BARN FIND Dodge D50 in RARE Condition

- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2025
- Today, we explore a rare 1979 Dodge D50 SPORT pickup truck. These were imported from Japan, made by Mitsubishi and you just don't see them in this condition anymore... Assuming that what's underneath the years of debris and other stuff is still nice.
About this Dodge D50 Sport:
1979
D50, not Ram 50
Inline 4 cylinder
5 speed on the floor
original assembly line sticker is still stuck to the original windshield
Was pulled behind a motor home for much of it's existence
Has OEM pinstripes
Original California truck
no rust, just a lot bird stuff, (Hopefully)
What are we doing?
We are exploring what's left of it today and pondering pulling it to the garage for reviving.
What's the story?
This was purchased several years ago with intentions of driving, however, it became a nightmare trying to keep this thing on the road. Breakdown after breakdown after breakdown. So here it sets today...
What is the plan?
We are going to attempt to make this mini truck road ready and as reliable as we can. Then we'll show it or sell it.
Do you have any concerns about today's work?
No concerns today! Just glad finally be able to take an up-close look at it.
Why did you decide to do this?
Because it's time for this to be used or sold so it doesn't continue rotting away.
Would you recommend picking up one of these trucks?
You bet, although, the experience I've had is they break down alot. We're hoping to change all that in the next couple months as we work on bringing this back to the road.
What's your favorite thing about this truck?
It's such a neat truck, there are all sorts of features I enjoy. The 5 speed, the 2 gauge clusters, the pinstripes, seats, and compact size makes for a head turner and loads of interesting things to take in during a ride or drive.
What would you improve, if anything?
More aftermarket parts, please.
What's coming to the shop in the future?
We really need to get back on the 1985 Honda Big Red restoration project, so let's hope for that.
Are you able to do lots of work in a limited space?
Yes, without question. The biggest issues I face in our 2 stall garage is organization. Keeping the workspace organized and both stalls clear of clutter really helps with motivation, which then helps with productivity. Basically, if I see a clean workspace, I'm much more ready to dive into a project or even just scheduled maintenance like today's oil change.

Dude this is amazing!!!!!
I just bought a 1980 d350 sport all orange with original pinstriping just like this one three weeks ago also in almost Immaculate condition here in California I was so stoked to see your video I can't wait to see you clean it up and hear her run....
I've been searching RUclips for anything like this since I bought mine and you're the first one to find one of these trucks other than me I got so lucky been looking for one for 25 years...
Can't wait to see your videos on it I just subscribed
D50.
Sorry not D350..
That is awesome. Congrats on your new pickup! Those Sports were built with quite the imagination. After 25 years of keeping an eye out for one, it sounds like you came across a very nice and unique find!
16:40 THAT is THE VERY FIRST RADIATOR FAN Shroud I have ever SEEN.! WOW.!.! I really could use one for my '82.
This D50 is literally covered in bird poop. Let’s bring it’s dignity back and clean it up, tune it up, and put it back on the road. Thanks for watching! -2SG
That’s a cool truck! Can’t wait to see it on the road!
Can you imagine the Escort and D50 side by side at a car show? #ShowTime
Wow wow wow that’s crazy AWESOME GREAT FIND
This was a fun one. 🔧🤜🤛
My dad bought one of these A while back and worked on it with his dad, hes completely changed it into a drag truck since then and it looks great(and sounds great too)
Awesome!
Sweet. Let’s see it washed off! Wondering how that paint held up?
What a great find 👌🏼 I’ve got a 93 mighty max I’m trying to save. Love these little trucks
Good luck with your project!
I have a twin to that truck. 1980 sport with 112k! Thank you!
Nice!
That is an amazing looking thing.
Those engines are tough to find second-hand. Been asking salvage yard everywhere for one for my old Mitsubishi Montero
You have a Montero? Awesome!
Are you going to do a cleaning it video or anything cool like that??
I'm so surprised you did not get a ton of views that truck is literally a unicorn!!!
I really hope you do another video on it
Thanks RedFly Gaming! We’ve been trying to get to it. I’ll be sure to do a cleaning video and more. It has a history of losing coolant so we’ll check it out and see if we can work out any issues.
@@2StallGarage Check the plastic Drain valve on the radiator.?
@@paulsilva3346 I’ll have to check it out. What should I be expecting?
@@paulsilva3346 oh I gotcha. I’ll take a look. That could be it!
had a maroon '79 with the 4 speed ..used it as a work truck as a construction super over the PNW and norcal rather than stack up miles on my Bronco....great mileage and pretty comfortable...loved it
if it was towed alot there's a good chance that odometer reading is high relative to it actually running
79 D50 & a Ford Bronco. Good days for sure. 👍
can't be to rare of a find i got a 1980 sitting in my shop that was just given to me. mine is orange. love the seats and mirrows. mine is auto.
Nice!
That's a gem right there. 👍
Thanks Darren 🔧
That thing is mint
Just uploaded a new video on this truck. Oil pump is ordered 🙌
I would like to buy it, Lover those little trucks. I owned 3 at one time. You can almost rebuild one at the side of the road, 2.6 was not a power house but I hear you can buy better flowing heads now.
Fired it up today and zero oil pressure. 😮. New video coming.
Saw the SD plates and I was like "Lets go, another barnfind in SD" , Me and my dad back in 2019 got my uncles 1982 Gmc Sierra Classic K1500 6.2 Detroit Diesel out of a shed that it had sat in from like the mid-late 2000's, took a couple batteries and ether to get Er to run, planning to buy it as my first truck from him.
Nice! 👍
Checkout the latest video on it. No oil pressure. So odd after simply sitting 4 years.
@@2StallGarage Thanks, I love them old squarebodys, and got another one a ,1985 chevorlet k10 silverado, that originaly had a 6.2 detroit diesel from the factory, my dad bought it in the 90s with the 6.2 having 30K mile rebuild, motor went bad and he found a 6.5 non turbo detroit diesel, and got it installed, planning to stack it and make Er loud.
That’s awesome. We’ve got an 84 k20 with the 6.2 diesel sitting in our drive way. 😎
@@2StallGarage That's sweet!!, I love the diesel squarebodys the most, probably because of reading diesel power magazines when I was little, and that got me hooked to diesels.
I thought all the ones were painted that way were Plymouth arrows.
I had an 85 d50 4x4 I bought new in 85 since then I've owned literally a hundred or more four wheel drive trucks (yes I go through a lot of vehicles) that doesn't even include the cars I've owned.
The little d50 was my favorite small truck ever.
It’s my favorite little truck too. I bought it for my daughter and I to daily and then met my wife. Not enough room now. So it sits.
Awesome truck
I just went to a car wash and saw a Beautiful 80 Plymouth Arrow pickup. U should restore it to stock. U don’t see many of them.
Can’t argue your thought to keep it original. We’ll probably end up doing just that. I’ll get it out for a closer look soon. -2SG
@@2StallGarage I’m in ny and the one I saw was from California. I’m a big mopar guy and have never seen one till today. Japanese built Mopar’s are rare.
This one spent most of its life in California, a couple years in Minnesota and has been basically sitting since coming to South Dakota.
Love the design of these little trucks. They’re not heavy duty, but they have some creative pin striping and interior designs, down to the sport steering wheel and seats. Fun little trucks.
@@2StallGarage I subscribed to see the restoration 😁
Thanks for coming along!
Yrs ago I saw one of these weekends the a 273 four barrel with a 904 auto swapped into it. Not that hard of a swap I believe. I'd put a 340 in it and drag race it.
That would move quick. 👍🔧
Love the bumble bee.
We plan to bring it out of storage, go through it and list it for sale in the spring. 👍
...my timing chain has a bit of slack, about 1/2" or so, on the driver's side ... passenger side is tight, the side where the tensioner is installed ...the chain, sprockets, all look good & shinny, no sign of damage as far as the eye can see ... should this be a concern ? G54B engine, 2.6L auto, gas ..
Late response. I’m not sure on these specific trucks. I could do some digging. Did you make any progress yet?
Buen auto tengo uno igual año 1985 y funciona en Panamá 👍
¿Es un 4x4?
Go nice with the 79 Plymouth arrow Im buying and restoring.
They had a factory roll bar and grill guard you could get as options
Yes, those were sweet looking options. I’ve searched all over for the roll bar and bill guard but no luck at all. The original sunroof would be fun as well.
The one I wanted.
I may be interested in purchasing, when will it be for sale?
Within the next 30 days.
Located in South Dakota.
Little trucks are getting rare I seen a few on marketplace 1980 and up, sport package is the better package I think.
Love the sport package.
GOOD PARTS TRUCK!
Yep, let me know what you need. 😉
Please don't part it out. I'd love to restore her!!
@@ZeginMakesMusic it was a sarcastic reply. No worries. I wouldn’t part it out. It’s an original California truck.
I have an 86 d50 That I need to replace front mainseal than it would be good to go but can’t find parts anywhere
Which engine? 2.0, 2.4 or 2.6?
@@2StallGarage it’s a 2.6
L4 - 2.6L 2555cc 156ci GAS 2BBL vin E - 2 valve SOHC - If these specs line up with your engine, here's what I pull for part #'s at O'Reilly's. Front Main Crankshaft Seal Kit - (FEL TCS45170), Front Main Crankshaft Seal - (NAT 228005), (MPS 224840). Limited availability from the looks of it. Good luck brother!
Avian pinstriping!
Love it!
Is this washed and running now ?
Sitting the same as the day of this video. I will video the entire process of getting it out soon.
@@2StallGarage I'll buy it!!!
We’re up in SD. It’s frozen in the grainery right now but I would get it out into the heated shop if you want it.
Clean and fix first. Then decide.
I just bought one of these from older lady been setting in her dads barn got it and 85 lincoln cont. Give 550.00 for both
Nice!
Do you want to sell one

🤜🤛🔧🙌
Funny how that's the only vehicle with bird crap all over it .
Why couldn’t they target the C10 instead?
You should give it to me
More poop than truck at first lol, good thing the windows were closed - pretty clean interior.
No mice made it inside. 🙏🙌
Do you want to sell it, if so , I like to buy it from you
Yes, absolutely. We want to see it head to a new owner. Did you catch the other videos of this revival on the channel?
Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe...
🤜🤛
Oh I can see that looks like a truck for your elders so jest call me elder and send it to me.
Lol. 🤜🤛
