Love this so much Melody. So helpful! I was wondering if you’d be open to making a video outlining how you set up rules and expectations with your groups, both maths and reading. I’d love to know in more detail about how you do it all, it’s honestly so helpful!! Thank you xx
@@emilymcerlean6195 thank you Emily! A lot of this happens in the first weeks of school when we discuss how we work during independent times. Since we use flexible seating, part of the expectation is that you only get to enjoy your flex if it’s a place you can work your best. They know they’ll need to remain at their desk to work if they are distracting others. Math groups has a different feel since students are often playing a game together that allows them to talk and collaborate.
@@mrsmunchsmunchkins Great, thank you!! This might sound silly to ask, but how do you go about introducing and teaching your class how to play the games? I have a few awesome games that I'd like my class to play during rotations but I just need to figure out the most effective/time efficient way to teach them before we get into it. Thanks again for your help x
@@emilymcerlean6195 We practice the computer games in pairs or as a whole class before they become a station! This is usually something we do right after we get our chromebooks in the first full week and second week of school. Before they do a station for the first time, I'll take part of our whole group time to show them where they need to go and what they need to do on the board. Same goes for any workpage like the Rainbow Write! We typically do the station as part of whole group so I can monitor and clarify expectations before they would see it in reading groups.
@@LisaHudson-r5b you are so welcome! And sure, I will paste it here for you! @@christyinglis7884 very rarely! I like to be available to assist and check students with that kind of activity and that isn’t an option during group time. We would more likely do that as part of our whole group lesson before stations began. If they do a task card exercise in groups, it would be in partners to support my low readers or be something like identifying text features using pictures so everyone could complete the station independently. Otherwise, I found many students would complete the task cards incorrectly and it would create more confusion when reteaching.

Haha yes, a lot of info since there is so much to share on this topic!
