  • I shot this and then realized that it's way too long, so I decided to break it up into 2 parts:
You can find part one here: • Gay Asian American Com...
(I didn't realize youtube only lets you do links at the end of videos until after I uploaded).
Here is the second part, which shares ways I tried to research and learn more about my sexuality, and how I eventually come to terms with being gay.
I hope you guys find this insightful, relatable, or maybe even helpful! Let me know in the comments what you think! What was your coming out experience like?

Hey, Same story for me too. I'm gay in the closet, and don't know how I'll ever gather up the courage to tell my parents and my family. I'm in college, but I'm too close to home to explore myself or even let ppl here know who I am (it could easily get out too my family). I've had a few run ins of my intermediate family finding my history of watching 18+ gay videos when I was younger. During that time my brothers teased me and bullied me because of it, but my parents treated it as a faze.

"Don't come out until you're financially stable"
You are the first person I've heard say this, and I agree with you very strongly. I know a couple of people who were kicked out, and those stories really break my heart to hear. One good aspect of the closet is that is can be used to bide one some invaluable time!
On that note I am happy to hear that your coming out story wasn't an awful one :).
You briefly mentioned your dad in part 1, but.. .. .. if you don't mind me asking... .. .. how did he take it?

Kevin, Pt. 2 was was equally worthwhile. I like your "be financially independent" caveat. I, as you, immersed myself in books about "gay," and I sublimated my desires into work, work, work, and college ... Wow! The Lady Gaga Russia tour. I was finishing my high school librarian teaching career and was the adviser for our gay-straight alliance when Gaga was at the peak of her popularity. She did what high schools refuse to do in terms of empowering young gays to be proud and strong.

As a few others have posted, I checked you out because you're hot...and of course watched a few videos by now, and love your substance, your intelligence, your focus, and above all, your willingness to contribute to others via your channel. Regarding Lady Gaga's Moscow concert - I had never seen that footage before. That was a brave thing for her to have done, even in 2012. I lived in Russia for 4 1/2 years, from 1992 to 1996, and can say my first-hand experience living in a fairly repressive culture when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights was very eye-opening. I have long refused to let any particular aspect of who I am actually define who I am - I may be gay, American, Caucasian...but I'm a human being overall, and that's what really matters. That's the background of relatedness we all share. The human race as a whole needs to recognize that we are really one race, no matter our diversity, and we all deserve equal treatment as such. Thank you for your insights and for putting yourself out there, Kevin!

Good story and good advice. I never came out to my parents. For many reasons, we weren’t close, and only talked about the weather….that’s as deep as it went. But, one day, I called my mother (I was in my 30’s) and talked to her for nearly 2 hours. (Dad was bowling). I told her she was a great mother and did a fantastic job raising me. I thanked her and told her I loved her. She thanked me and told me she was glad that dad was out, bowling. Three days later, she had a fatal heart attack. My father later mentioned to my brother that the last few days of her life, my dad had never seen her so happy. I think we should tell our loved ones, every day, that we love them.

Hi Kevin, fabulous video thanks. I saw Gaga here in Bangkok on the Born this Way Ball tour in 2012 and what was remarkable was how she seemed to talk to each every one of us in the stadium individually... it may surprise you but I was 55 at the time, and she too, is one of my favourite ever artists. I am really looking forward to your video on what she has meant to you over these past few years.

I am a child of the late 60's and early 70's. I graduated in 1973 (yeah, I know another old queen). I knew when I was 14 that I was gay and that I NEVER EVER wanted kids (I refuse to bestow my genes on ANY KID) and this was a time of rampant homophobia. I messed around with a couple of guys in high school, but pretty much kept to myself. This was in the time where you could and often WOULD get fired for being gay. I never paraded around announcing my sexuality, just was me. After HS, I went off to college for a criminal justice degree and snagged a part time on my home town police department. Since I lived in a small town, gossip was brutal and I managed to get a part time job on our local department while I was in college. My Chief never asked me about anything (other than if I knew a chick that might be interested in being a f*ck partner, just sex, no commitments and I obliged).
I met my boyfriend at a Christmas party 2 years later and it was the proverbial "love at first sight" (I know, cue the violins) and we were together to 10 years until a drunk driver took him from me. Devastated I was to say the least. I managed to keep it together and did 26 years and retired. I moved west and retired for good 7 years ago. I was lucky to meet a Navajo Champion Bronc Rider and when I pulled the pin for once and all, asked him to move with me to BFE Montana. Mainly because I was tired of the big city crime and drugs and crazy people and he agreed. He works as a horse trainer and I am a happy house husband. It sis take me a long time to find someone I could trust and be comfortable with.

What a great couple of videos. Kevin, you seem like a really lovely guy. Looks fade (trust me!) but I really do believe that good, decent, kind guys get there in the end. Just stay true to yourself and never let yourself be used, or taken advantage of. I wish I’d had someone like you in my life when I was younger. I didn’t always make the right choices, and I sometimes wish I’d had better friends.
Thank you on behalf of all the guys who are struggling to come out. Your story is helpful and inspiring.
And damn you’re so handsome too - I always fall for Asian guys with floppy hair!!! Never settle for anyone less than the best!

Brilliant young man, you are definitely not broken, lots of moving parts but not broken. I found yout youthful reasoning both sane and sad, sad only because of the shadow cast by religion and hate, driving youth toward conformity. Sane because the mental gymnastics I went through trying to explain what I clearly wanted, to the part of me that knew what was expected. Kevin, your line about "some gay guys don't like to date guys who are not out" reminded me of a Philippine TV series called "Gaya Sa Pelikula" ("Like in the Movies") It's an excellent production, with wonderful music and a plot that I think you will enjoy. I think i can relate to part 1 and 2) but i still didnt come out im 15 years old and i was born gay (and yes people can be born gay.) while growing up i never really liked girls that way i just looked at them as "yass bestie" they gave me that vibe just a bestie vibe and i was always attracted to men and when i turned 13 years old midway 13 i became bisexual my first ex was when i was 13 it was a guy but then i dated a girl after my guy break up and i said to myself "Shit I think im bisexual." and then we broke up blah blah blah I dated another guy when I was 13 and then another 1 then I dated 2 men when I was 14, so now I'm saying I'm bisexual, but I'm questioning if I'm gay or bi because I dated 6 people but 5 were men and only 1 was a girl, and I am more feminine while growing up my mom never really paid much attention at me and never really cared unless I was sick or had h.w or Quizizz or exams, so I grew up with my sister caring for me which made me end up having more female friends than male friends which made me get habits girls have, and my dad was never home because of work when I was a kid, so he was never able to teach me how to be masculine etc. And I was never emotionally or physically attracted to women when I was "gay" and in my whole life I just liked 1 girl like physically and emotionally once and all my role models are mostly women, but I do have some men, but my biggest role model is my sister she's the first person I opened up to in my family and this is how it happened, so I was awake in the middle of the night on discord, and she caught me, and she took my tablet away, and she entered my tablets history and saw "hot men" "big d*cks" etc. Lmao this is embarrassing, but then the next day she returned me my tablet and went away and when I entered my discord my account was deleted, but discord has a 30-day timer for u to restore your account so hahaha jokes on you, I got my account back, but I lost all my servers I was in but anyway later that day I entered the kitchen and my sister asked me if I'm gay, and I said no, and then she looked at me and said "really?" and I said "yes..." but then 1 month and a few weeks have passed and while eating dinner my sister asked me "Are you open-minded?" I said "yes" and then she said, "then what's your biggest secret?" "Why should I tell you?" "It's fine I'm open-minded I won't say anything about it" and I said "ill tell you later" and she said "ok" then when I finished eating I went to my room opened my phone and typed in this "Do you remember when you asked me if I was gay or not? I'm not gay, I'm bisexual." and then she said "See I don't care I told you I'm open-minded lol" and my mom always asks me "Are you gay?" and I keep telling her no because my parents are very religious, and we are Muslims too, so I can really feel comfortable telling my parents if I'm bi or gay etc. but later on my cousin finds out, and it turns out my sister told her and how I found out is when I opened up to my cousin she said "I know your sister told me" and I was literally betrayed, but I was fine with it since my cousin didn't tell anyone and my sister and cousin are open-minded about LGBTQ+ and my dad keeps opening up these stories in our religion about LGBTQ+ people and how god punished them which honestly makes me feel uncomfortable because I just want to get up and yell at him and slap him because not only It's annoying to listen to the story he repeated it multiple times and every time is when I have to be eating I lose my appetite, but I cannot show that I'm bothered because that could make me suspicious, so I just have to listen and everyone else in the table is literally uncomfortable because who wants to hear a story like that while your eating, and he finds it amusing? No, thank you. My female cousin told me to never open up to my parents, so I won't, but I am planning to when I become fanatically stabled btw sorry about all of this I know I'm saying a lot, and I'm sorry lmao but irl I don't talk much xd but all my friends in school know I'm bisexual, and I live in west Asia which is full of homophobic countries and the country I'm in is the UAE so all my friends are Muslim, so it was tough to come out lol, but my other siblings still don't know, but I believe my oldest sibling knows since he's the one that opened my tablet history for my sister xd but yeahhhh this is my coming out story to my sister and friends and female cousin lmao it's longer but I shortened it and thank you if you read it all

5:00 i have this kind of someone, that i have known for roughly about 6 years? he’s like the kindest, sweetest soul ive ever known, and i never got the chance to tell him how i felt about him, cause he moved after a couple year knowing him, we were close and best friends, and he is still the bestest friend i ever had, and he said i am the best friend he ever had too, and one thing i know is that im never totally over him, because i always try to find little things of him in everything everywhere and everyone, for example i became friend with certain certain person and i’d notice smt simillar about that person to my best friend, its the thing i do to everyone new i meet, so i know im never actually totally him. i miss him, been years since we meet. but we followed each other on instagram and all, we reply to each other stories once in a while and wish each other birthdays, so yea. but the feelings he made me feel, and the world he made me see, id never forget that

What I liked most of your advise is - give your parents time cz RMMB HOW LONG IT TOOK YOU👍.
Another one is - first get financially independent. True.

Hi, can you react to a BL series in youtube called "Gaya sa pelikula" it's a good story about guys who are in the closet and their struggles. Thanks!

I've actually seen the whole thing! Loved the series but I felt like the ending was kind of disappointing and rushed.

    • @KevinHao
      @KevinHao  3 года назад

you don't need to until you are ready. Maybe that is never. When it is time, you will know. The most important part of coming out isn't coming out to others - it is coming out to yourself. So as long as you are accepting of yourself, it doesn't matter if others know or not. Wish you the best!
