That's how we feel too. We just try to share with all. Most like it, a few say they don't... but they are from elsewhere, and opinions from folks that don't know... don't matter.

My wife and I camped at the Crystal River State Park and had a great time. We did the glass bottom boat tour and there was a huge car show going on at the time. By the way we live in the Florida Keys and a hogfish is a delicacy, if you ever get a chance to try it you will not be disappointed!

The closed nuclear plant is a concern. They said it had a leak. Exactly what was leaking and how much, has the leak stopped, what did they do with the spent nuclear rods, is there any nuclear waste buried/sealed/capped on site, are safety inspections still being done to test water, air and soil on an ongoing basis? St Louis, Missouri, has a serious nuclear waste dump that is leaking underground, it's a massive amount of nuclear waste. The West Lake facility was contaminated with radioactive waste from uranium processing by a St. Louis company known as Mallinckrodt Chemical. The waste was illegally dumped in 1973 and includes material that dates back to the Manhattan Project, which created the first atomic bomb in the 1940s.The Environmental Protection Agency is still deciding how to clean up the waste. The landfill was designated a Superfund site in 1990. In addition to the leaking nuclear dump there is also an underground fire only 1200 feet away from a smoldering buried trash landfill. Government officials have quietly adopted an emergency plan in case the smoldering embers ever reach the waste, a potentially "catastrophic event" that could send up a plume of radioactive smoke over a densely populated area near the city's main airport.
Although the fire at Bridgeton Landfill has been burning since at least 2010, the plan for a worst-case scenario was developed only a year ago (2015) and never publicized until this week (2015), when St. Louis radio station KMOX first obtained a copy. If all of this is not bad enough St. Louis sits on a massive earthquake fault, The New Madrid Fault, which is due a large earthquake at any time. St. Louis is expected to suffer severe earthquake damage when the earthquake does happen. What could go wrong with a massive nuclear waste dump the is leaking right next to an underground smoldering fire during a major earthquake? What idiot thought it was a good idea to bury a massive amount of nuclear waste on top of a major earthquake fault? In my opinion people should go to prison over this. Nearly half a century after a company here began processing fuel for nuclear weapons, St. Louis and several western suburbs are battling over a new disposal plan for millions of cubic yards of dirt contaminated with uranium, thorium, radium, actinium and other radioactive elements that are polluting the water, soil and air. ''We have a million cubic yards of radioactive waste on this side of the Missouri River, a million and a half on the other side, and they don't know where to put the first cupful,'' said Kay Drey, a nuclear opponent here who is providing technical assistance to several suburban leaders. ''This is the oldest radioactive waste of the atomic age, and there still is no safe place to put the stuff.''
The Federal Government, which has spent a decade and $75 million studying the extent of the contamination, has not settled on a solution, but officials are leaning toward a plan that they say can accommodate half the waste: consolidating debris from a former uranium processing plant downtown and a handful of other sites onto 82 acres just north of Lambert International Airport in the suburb of Berkeley. That's right, the Federal Government has already spent 75 million dollars just to study this massive problem. People in the area are dying of cancer.

Just a short comment about the Duke energy complex.....2 coal plants were built in the mid 60s...not the 50s...the nuclear plant was built next to them in the 70s...the 2 larger coal plants were built in the 80s... nuke plant was taken out of service in 2009....the oldest coal plants were shut down in late 2018....2 large gas plants were built and now on line about a mile east. First mate needs to bone up on her facts..

I have lived in Homosassa & Crystal River area for over 44 years & 99% of the seafood you get at local establishments are not local. Unless otherwise stated on the menu & sometimes that's not true. I went to a local restaurant & they had Mahi Mahi which is not caught & sold locally but menu said it was. It is caught in the Gulf of Mexico but not in our coastal area. The best place to get local fresh seafood is Shelly's in Homosassa. She buys from local fishermen, crabbers, & shrimpers. And no cod is not a local fish either, even though it is very tasty!

@@JERRYANDLINDA You will love it. They have amazing homemade smoked mullet dip. They have what are known as Royal red shrimp. They are deepwater shrimp I swear they taste better than lobster. If you need to know of any restaurants as Citrus County I've lived here for 40 years I can help you out. If you like seafood the next one on your list would be seafood sellers in crystal river. Take care

Yes, it was converted to a coal and natural gas powered plant.

I googled about it after seeing this and it seems the tour guide info wasn't correct. (sorry for the wall of text, just thought it was interesting).
The power plant was built in 66 with one coal power plant then a second in 69. Then in 1977 the nuclear plant was built (it was never converted from one to the other or vice versa, even now the nuclear power plant is simply shut down, it's not converted to a coal plant). in the 80's they built two more coal plants, so 5 total power plants, 4 coal and 1 nuclear.
The nuclear plant didn't have a leak in 2009, rather they were doing a planned refueling and were going to replace the steam generators, but to save money instead of hiring professional companies that have done that kind of work the suits decided to "save money" by doing it themselves. Even then when they hired an engineer firm to help they didn't follow their advice, they were told to loosen 97 tendons (these are basically long steel cables that that helps strengthen the wall, loosening them makes the wall stress free so it won't crack when pressure is applied to it), they didn't want to do that many, the engineer firm suggested 74, again too much, finally 65 which they agreed to, they even hired ANOTHER firm to review it and they agreed that 65 was good. However doing this was both expensive and time consuming, so they decided to ignore this advice to save even more money and only did 27, on top of that they didn't loosen them the normal way you're meant to. This ended up causing the wall to crack when they cut it open to remove the steam generators.
The company ended up shutting down the plant after this because they didn't want to foot the bill for all the repairs and everything to get it back up and running.
They also closed the two oldest coal plants this year, so there's only two plants running now (which is why you only see two plumes of smoke).
You can read it here from the Tampa Bay times article about it all,
      www.tampabay.com/news/business/energy/billions-may-not-buy-answers/2147035
and Wikipedia had more info about when it was all built/shut down,
