    I have a c12 myself 2001 2ks and my rollers also went out and ruined the cam. Mainly the exhaust side. I also had the head and valves tested and all the exhaust valves needed to be replaced. This was after 400 k rebuild. I bought the truck shortly after the rebuild. One of the rollers broke in half and we found peices in the oil pan. Several other rollers were bad as well all on the exhaust side. The engine was actually still running and getting good mileage but would not hold a valve adjustment. After about a couple of months it would be out of adjustment. Wish I would have had you as my mechanic.

    Love those c12’s. Unfortunately the lifter follower issue was its #1 flaw. Solid little engine with a great power to weight ratio

    Unfortunately if your not sure removing the oil pan is the best way to see the cam. Any time the head is off and you have the 115 beginning part number EUI lifter. You better replace them all and put the 202 part number in them. Seen numerous 115's fail, more than likely the part number begins with 115. If your not replacing the set, take each one and make sure the pin won't spin. On some they have a arrow on them if I recall. Make sure they are pointing up.
    Also while the front cover is off, torque all inner plate bolts you can get to.
    I have had luck on the bottom radiator nuts, just taking a impact wrench and moving it side to side and remove the nut without holding the head with a wrench. I also put them back on that way. Takes a few minutes, but I don't have to stop someone else working.

      The best way to see if your on TDC of cylinder X, is to look at the buddy cylinder and see if the valves are in overlap or close to it. Depends on camshaft design, duration and lift.

    First thing I do with any HD diesel is...take to my trusted mechanic who actually knows how to do a real rack adjustment/valve calibration. Drive it for a day then change my oil, add a gallon of Lucas, change all my filters, flush radiator, flush power steering and flush transmission. Did all that with my ISX and C12...currently driving the C12 with a straight pipe...changing rotella syn blend oil every 15K and air filter every 6 months. I'm getting over 8mpg loaded and over 9mpg empty! I believe that must people don't know how to be good semi truck owners. Must C12's go bad because your suppose to do a rack adjustment about 10 to 15K after a head gasket or overhaul...basically first oil change after and must people don't do that. After that you should do a rack adjustment every 150 to 250K miles...so if your truck has 500K it should already have had at least 2 rack adjustments! Don't believe what the previous owner says...just follow that method and you will be running good for a long time!😉👍👍💯💯

      The cam removal tool is just a piece of aluminum that is the same diameter as the cam and is screwed onto the front or rear of the cam. It bridges the gap between journals so that as you pull (or insert) the cam, it doesn't fall out of alignment of the bores and keeps you from nicking up the bearings.

    • @johngoldsmith6629
      @johngoldsmith6629 2 года назад +1

      You need to list your engine serial number as it will help guide what to do. On your 70 pin, J1P1 truck side, unswitched battery power is 52 and 53, key is 70. Sometimes you have to load the circuit to see if the system can carry the load. Battery negative is 65 and 67. Pin 5 is system common ground to other systems (including throttle, pin B) on the truck. Pin 4 is your 8 volt supply to the throttle sensor pin A. And pin 66 is your throttle signal wire pin C.
      No throttle could be failure in the circuit, sensor, ECM or if the personality code is not married up to the ECM or called interlock code. The engine will only idle. You can make a bypass harness using pin's 52,53,and 70 battery positive. Pins 65 and 67, battery negative, to a good power source. Does not have to be battery on the truck. Use throttle pin call out 4,5 and 66 in the bypass harness. Start the truck and see if it will throttle up. You will now know if you have a ECM problem or a truck problem. Make sure you put a fuse in your power supply. You will need a 70 pin J1 connector truck side, some pins, wire and a good throttle sensor.
      Low voltage to pin 70, you could have a dirty connection some place, failed key switch, wire rubbing, etc. I would check power at the key switch going in and coming out. Would not hurt to clean all battery cables. Any time you troubleshoot something like this, in this case a electrical problem. You can start at battery to ECM. Or ECM back to battery. However if you can start someplace in the middle, (key switch) you know do I need to go left or right.

      Thanks for your response. Are you familiar with a stop lamp switch interface module, reading my schematic that’s where pin 70 power starts in this truck. It’s a truck problem. I did the fuses jump wire in the dash running down to pin 70. Truck starts and idles great when I do this. No throttle response tho 😂. I drove this truck 100 miles home after replacing ecm. Like I said I had only 8 volts making it to the ecm on pin 70. So I decided to cut in a 12 volt fuses source and that’s when I lost my 8 volts I had and lost throttle response. Now there’s no power to put it back the way it was. Nightmare!!!
