Shame on government of Japan for not offering more support to parents. They should at the very least double the monthly child benefit. Also some form of free daycare isn't unreasonable.

She’s such a great mom. Balancing work life with parental duties. And her method of “zoning out” and not reacting to the kids’ temper tantrums or breaking things is actually really good. Like she said, “you can’t rewind it.” You can only move forward. They’re still young and don’t know better, and they are still learning how to communicate their wants and needs. By seeing their mom, being calm and gentle, she is displaying proper behavior that they will learn as they get older.

Something I saw recently that I loved, and will take to heart was "Whenever I'm having a tough parenting day, I like to pretend I've traveled from the future to spend just one more day with my baby. It always helps me gain perspective." It definitely helps to remind ourselves that these are the days we'll miss dearly when our kids are grown up and living their own lives. Best of luck on your journey, from one dad to another. :)

That usually ends up with kids trying to hid the mess or not owing up to making it and later on when they're teens not feeling comfortable with telling their parents about things they do and need help fixing even bigger messes. When my kids were little and spilled stuff, the most they'd get was a sigh and "Go get a towel and clean it up please. You need to be more careful next time." (One of our three house rules is "If you make a mess, clean it up." I'd help them clean up messes when they were little and now that they're teens, it's automatic) One of my friends told me once, "You're so CALM! I'd be screaming at them!" They're little. They're still learning. Accidents happen. Even adults spill stuff! As long as they clean up their mess and no one was hurt, we're good.

Everyone's needs matter, including mom's. Respectful parenting doesn't mean you don't address those behaviors. It means you do it with respect and love while modeling emotional regulation. You still teach and guide the children. She just zoned out and ignored it. That's passive parenting. Not the same thing.

While its difficult in the moment, by not yelling, she's teaching her kids by example how to handle stressful situations. The kids also feel more comfortable turning to her if they have trouble. I remember growing up that my parents would yell at me whenever I made a mistake, it got to the point that I became scared even turning to them when I needed help because I didn't want to get yelled at. The fact that she's balancing being a mom with being a business owner with two stores opened is incredible. This woman is amazing. Not only she is a hard worker and balances work and family life, but she's also a mom that teaches her kids it's okay to do a mistake, as long as you gather your mess later. When I was a kid I was scolded a lot if I broke something, which in the end caused me to be scared to tell my parents if something happened later. It's heartwarming how much she tells them she loves her kids. May she always be happy!

I think we had similar experience, it doesn't matter how cheap or expensive the item is and of course breaking the things were mistakes but I get yelled at and they get so angry at me like which made me feared everything. There were a few rare occasions that they didn't but otherwise it's always the case.
I understood why they did that because they just think if they make me scared etc then I would be more careful or something but they don't realise how this sometimes make it worse for me or how I feared to ever trying t do certain things (moving things around etc).

Paolo, sooo much of this is familiar to me. Well, in my case the dad version. But my wife wasn’t home that often due to her work schedule (big Japanese company) so I had the highly memorable experience juggling a full time job and being primary caregiver for 2 small children at the same time. I know it’s usually mom’s doing this so my own experience gave me so much respect for them. One image that hit me was her just getting (or making) food for her kids and then eating the leftovers. Been there. Good times. 😅

Hifumi is right though about not being able to rewind horrible things that you accidentally say. My mom is a stay at home mom, but she used to work when I was still very young. One of the things she told me is to never be a stay-at-home mom because of how lonely it can be. Finishing the food the kids don't eat, that's actually what my mom used to do with me and my sister. But my sister and I usually did finish the food anyway.
