Replacing LiPo Main/Balance Leads

  • It's super annoying when a balance lead gets chopped off or the main LiPo battery leads becomes damaged. But dont worry, its not trash. I keep my leads from old batteries and use those for replacement.
    10 pack of 2s - 6s balance leads for $2-$3 - www.banggood.co...
    5 pack premade main leads for $7 - www.banggood.co...
    My 40mm heat shrink comes from ReadyMadeRC.com. Not sure where else to get the clear kind.

    Thanks dude, it worked for me.
    I am so glad I saved this awesome 1500mah LiHV 6S.
    The only difference, the balance lead solder point was so hard to melt, my soldering iron kept dropping temperature and I ended up solder-repairing the cable itself.

  • @EmDoubleA
    @EmDoubleA 7 лет назад +9

    Love your videos! Consider using a chisel tip on connections with that much solder. The larger tip acts as a heatsink to prevent fluctuations in temp from the heating element to the solder work.
    edit: also consider popping out and switching the balance leads to get brown to be ground in order to know 100% which side is ground in the future

      Agreed. I always worry about apply hot air to shrink the shrinkwrap. Does this ever damage the lipo? Would you do this to a puffed lipo? I presume that you wouldn't try it at all if there is some puffiness... would really like your opinion though.

  • @chrisnocker3437
    @chrisnocker3437 7 лет назад +5

    More great content, thanks.
    Just one suggestion, when you said "blow hot air" down the heat shrink to get the condensation so that I will slide, maybe you want to clarify for others that you are breathing hot air from your mouth as opposed to using a hot air gun or something. Just thought it could potentially catch someone out 😉

    • @3000gtwelder

    that red or brown is the ground? so why is it connected to the positive lead? that red and brown is the hot the blacks are the ground or the fallowing positive on the next battery. That red is the positive lead wire and the fallowing wires are all in black cause they are connected in series and also act as ground in the batteries connection sequence.

    I have a 3s lipo 2700mah battery -
    when I put it on the charger it appears to get a full and balanced charge.
    when I test it on a battery checker using the balance plug - nothing shows up - completely blank
    if I test it using a esc / motor tester using the ec3 plug all appears well.
    I've tried several different battery checkers that all work on other batteries - so that's not the problem.
    It seems to be a fault with the balance plug somehow -
    why it works when charging and not with a battery checker I don't know.
    I think the battery would be safe to fly with on my rc plane since the balance lead is not in use when flying
    but I don't have full confidence in the battery since I can't check the charge with a regular battery checker.
    What can the problem be ?

    Use your phone to take a picture of the lead layout before you take everything off. Now you have a reference. That goes for anything I'm doing. Especially flight controller wiring (Don't have to reinvent the wheel and figure it out from scratch that way.)

    my wires got chewed up in the spur gear and ripped in half. How do I know which wire connects to which port on the balance plug?
    And do I need to use solder or can I just wrap the wires round each other, since there's very little current running through them?
