QLD/NSW fossicking for beginners, by a beginner - Ewingar State Forest

- First time visiting Ewingar state forest, definitely did not disappoint. The finds just kept getting better. All up, I probably only explored about 100m of creek in one location, so still A LOT of exploring to do.
And before anyone comes at me, I know they are just tumbled and aren't jellybeans. Just a habit calling them jellybeans.

Nice to see someone else collecting for their own enjoyment, I see so many people collecting to try and sell them to make money. I just love rocks, particularly lake superior agates because I live in an area where the glaciers dropped tons of rocks years ago. But I love just having them to look at, and plus just love to be outside an hear the birds chirp and the wind blow
100% nothing better than being outside with only the sounds of mother nature and beautiful rocks and minerals to be found

First video that popped up when I googled fossicking Ewingar. I’m on my way this weekend and your video has me sooooo excited! My only break a year and I go out bush to scratch in dirt to look for cool rocks! I’m glad I’m not alone with getting so much enjoyment out of digging through creeks not knowing what you might find. Thanks mate. Look forward to seeing more!
Awesome, I hope you found some nice stuff. I'll be back down there in about 2 weeks and I can't wait!

10:28 brooooooooo!
Doooooooooood! This is what I’m talking bout! 13:18 and the pieces before! You could cut and tumble those pieces into some seriously stunning stones that any crystal lover would keep in their pocket! This is sick dude!
13:41 dude stop! This is awesome! Holy frikin heck! I want to go there!!!!!!!! Damn dude!
Ewingar is one of my most favorite places it's absolutely beautiful 😍 can walk through the creeks all day and not get sick of it 😍
Now that I've had the chance to explore there, I 100% agree. One of the most stunning places I've ever seen
Do you need a 4WD to get to the creek?
Hey geezer, rookie jess said have a watch,, you'll like what you see
Goddam he's right again.
Good to see another rock freak 👍👍👍
Rookie sent me and I’m so happy he did! I can’t wait to see your channel grow!
I was just there last weekend after its been closed for some time and found alot of nice smokeys and some clears. Been there 3 times now and never get sick of it! Its like going back a million years in time when walking the creek
That's awesome, I've been waiting for it to open, I'll have to get back down in a week or two. And yea such an awesome place, seems so far from anywhere. Almost untouched
Looking forward to what you have to show us. Rookie turned me on to finding you. ❤️👍🏼

Kiday mate Pauly here from rookie rockhound and Paul the rockhound me and jesse were talking about doing a weekend down there
awesome, it's a magical place with so much going on. I'm pretty sure it's closed again atm from the recent floods but when it opens I'll be back down there again for sure. I'm just watching some of your guys videos too, awesome stuff 👍
@@goingwalkabout6282 jesse even did a share out off your channel last night subs will go up now it's great fun getting out both jesse an I are from the Gold Coast
Hello! Nice video brother! Jess said to check you out! And I'm so glad that I did! Beautiful scenery, nice finds! Looking forward to the next adventure 😊
Awesome video, thank you! Rookie Rockhound was spot on!
Rookie said to give you a look, glad I did, love the vid!
I went there recently, we had to leave due to wind, tree's dropping branches and falling down everywhere, most likely why the forest has been closed, we had to use the chainsaw to move some fallen tree limbs on the main road out, nice creek and forest, still some sizable trees left by the timber cutters, plan for good weather and be well equipped, long walk to anywhere if you get bogged or stuck.
Rookie sent me👌 top work mate 🤘
Sup brotha, super cool video. Rookie sent me here. Just subscribed, I loved that Smokey you found at 14:30 but over all lots of sick finds. Look forward to seeing more content and seeing your channel grow. Rock on 🤘

great video again, love watching your stuff.
Thank you, for all you do, and show. Oh nice
do me a favor on that supper clear and make sure you didn't stumble on a diamond, its could happen, sometimes they are in the same zone, you guys got the diamonds for sure, I cant tell from here , maybe your sure, but just check, in case. happy hounding !
would be awesome if it was a diamond, unfortunately I don't think diamonds occur here. 250km south west from this spot they do though 😉
@@goingwalkabout6282 gold, sapphire, emerald and diamonds are around the glenn innes area but you never know, hoping to get down near there for some gold fossicking 22/09/22 hopefully the forest is open again then.
Whats up Man! Great channel !! BTW Rookie sent me!
Hey! Rookie sent me over to check you out! I’m looking forward to seeing what you bring out of the ground.
Rookie sent me. Welcome to the club rock brother
Really enjoyable mate and a great job filming it. Is there no better feeling than picking up that dark glassy stone and it turns out to be a beautiful facet grade Smoky...
I've enjoyed that feeling several times over the decades around guyra area but never been to ewingar... I'm very envious. And those super clear glassy quartz fragments you got are beautiful... well done.👍
It's definitely a rush seeing that darkness of a beautiful smoky like that. I haven't been to Guyra, we did just get back from Armidale though but I didn't get a chance to stop off anywhere.
Hi Jon, great video 👍
Digging your videos mate.
Looks amazing, went to Doon Doon recently it was good too, had to be careful due to the floods those people got it bad.
Yea its really sad to see how much of that whole area was affected by the floods, was down there a couple weeks ago. Hope you found some awesome stuff down there
@@goingwalkabout6282 found some good pieces, didn’t trespass on anyones land but found a good spot. Will be going a bit further down next time. Was awesome for our first time. Did a lot of research and watched videos first.
What is all the green stuff like green glass on the top
That vein of different rock, looks the the other was bedrock. In high mineral areas old volcanic activity in Gondwana times of dinosaurs. Molten magma can be pushed up when plates shift , or just a crack forming in bedrock venting of pressure. Vertical like that anyway. Horizontal is just strata over millennia deposit of materials
Wow, thanks for the info!
👍
We go there with our fossking club Great spot
crystals !! new sub here, Rookie sent me over : ). #Rockhounding
Hey mate just found a deposit there today some nice bits with points 😁
That's awesome, hope they had nice clarity as well? I've been hanging to get back out there and explore more. What were the roads like?
How long does it take to get there from Brissie btw? Would you go back there btw? Thanks for sharing and keep the vids coming - Cheers
It took me a bit over 3 and half hours each way from around the gateway bridge, and 100% will go back and spend some more time down there once it opens again. It got hit pretty bad from the floods, so closed atm.
Sent by Rookie!!!
Very cool video. Reminded me of what I did a lot of when growing up. Upper crystal creek (near Murwillumbah) and anywhere near natural arch are good spots for crystal.
Gostei muito dó seu canal é sou garimpeiro
Would love to head out specking with the kids. Are the roads 4wd only there?
If its been a bit wet I'd say 4wd is better, but not so much necessary. I stayed in 2wd the while time with no trouble, as long as you don't have a low vehicle you'd get away with it. Don't take any fire trails, the main road was pretty good
Rookie says hello 👋😁
@Going Walkabout ive been thinking bout this alot and was wondering what the laws/ rules are around the border do i need a permit for both states or would my NSW one cover the border with Qld?
Unfortunately no, you need a separate one in QLD even if it is right on the border. Luckily, they aren't expensive in either state and easy enough to get online. Me personally, I'd rather just fossick in NSW if I was close to the border anyway
Rookie sent me here. 👋
Awesome. What road did you go down to get to the little creek? I went once and got lost on the bull dog trail track lol
🤣 i almost did the same thing on bulldog but managed to turn around and find my way out. I think the road i went down was elkhorn. It was just after a fire trail not far from the entrance
Oh wow!!! I've tried to go up there alot and got lost on my own, are there sites for directions
Im not sure if there are any sites, you could probably get a state forest map? I didnt explore too far into it, only taking one turnoff from the main road in and stopping at the first river crossing. I do carry a hand held gps just in case though
I really want to go on a big fossicking trip in nsw! I love in Queensland but haven't had any luck so far! Any suggestions on fossicking in Queensland?
Yea what area are you based in and what types of things are you wanting to find?
I'm in the sunshine coast! There's not much around where I live. I love any kinds of gemstones!
@Hazeldawn Creations you could head to redcliffe, along the beach by the jetty and the reef at Scarborough on low tide you will find chalcedony and agates. Apart from that I'm not sure of much else local. Gympie has a designated fossicking area, but that has been really well worked. It's still worth a shot and good place to learn how to pan for gold. I'd also suggest accessing any creeks in your area that you can get to without trespassing, and just have a look through them. You don't always have to dig to find crystals, most exposed crystals will find their way into the creek systems eventually and tumble down.
Ok great thanks I'll give it a go!
Hey bro, check out Rory's road. IV never found anything decent in the creek where you are
cheers for the tip, as soon as the forest opens again I'll be down there to do a lot more exploring. The place in this video was just the first I got to and it was just a day trip. Still an awesome spot to explore though
Any yowie sightings???
I think I was the closest thing to a yowie down there that day mate. If anyone had of seen me, there probably would have been some stories going around the local
@@goingwalkabout6282 they are real. They watch. They may or may not let you know that they are there. I’m looking for people with stories who are willing to tell them. UnsCryptid podcast……

can you use detector?
Do you mean at this location? I'm really not sure. There is gold here but not sure if theres anything big enough to pick up detecting. Next time I go I'll take the gm1000 and have a look
It won't let me like your video?
Uninstalled and re-installed. Got it! 👊❤
