I have to say I'm suprised it was red and white. I thought you would do red and black. I love the combo though and look forward to seeing what you do with them and of course as I start making more knives micarta scales made by myself is a must.
Thanks Chad. I had no more black felt left ;) Give it a try and tell me what you thought of it. I found it quite fun to make. And possibilities are endless.
Love the looks of this stuff!! I'm curious, and I can't seem to find any videos doing it, but what would micarta look like with a printed photo on it? I'm curious how well it would work if you were to print a logo on paper and then make micarta with it. Has anyone ever seen it done?
I’m guessing if you put tick marks on the plastic dish like 1/4 3/8” then you would get the micarta closer to the finished size easier? Any thoughts on that thanks for the video
Hey mate ! Always a pleasure to watch you working. Gave me an idea of round/tube micarta for a pen where finger "rests" would show the pattern.. Thank you !
Thanks. You're the second one to tell me this today. I'm happy to "transmit" the idea I "received" from someone else. Being the messenger of inspiration is awesome :)
Great idea my friend! I was thinking about making micarta too but wasn't sure yet which materials to try out. How happy are you with the way the felt micarta turned out! Also great idea to use that plastic box to contain the glue up!
Thanks Alex. This one was just a proof of concept but worked pretty well. Happy with the flet but I should have brushed a little more epoxy into it. I was afraid to be short on epoxy (this stuff is expensive...) ;)
Yes....finally, someone used epoxy!!! The colors stay true and the Micarta is even stronger than using that nasty smelling yellow/brown fiberglass resin!
Very interesting indeed how music changes our perception of things. I'm always serious when I'm working but no serious work here :) Thanks for watching.
Thanks. I should have used a torch or some kind of heat source to get rid of the bubbles. Didn't have anything at the time to do it. Thanks for watching!
I used crystal epoxy from Gédéo. Not the best one for the job, but the only one I could find at the time. You can use the cheapest clear epoxy you can find for micarta as long as you let it cure fully. Thanks for watching!
i tried to make micarta too using polyester resin but i ended up throwing it cuz the layers were not sticking maybe because i wraped them in foil and al the resin was on the sides after clamping. can u tell me please what kind of resin did u use?
I used Pebeo Gedeo crystal resin (www.amazon.com/Pebeo-Gedeo-Crystal-Resin-150ml/dp/B0085M0DWK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500654801&sr=8-1&keywords=gedeo+resin) and it worked great. What did you use to make your micarta ? Paper, fabric, felt ?
Merci. Je le voulais noir et rouge, mais ce sont des couleurs que j'utilise trop souvent. Rouge et blanc, ça change un peu. De plus, c'était surtout un test pour voir si cela fonctionnerait bien.
I was thinking about making my own scales for knifemaking yesterday night, and then this comes up! Thumbs up!
Thank you Karl. Good thing I decided to post this one on the last minute then ;)
Keep me posted with the result of making your own !
I am looking to make custom handles for my BKT combat bowie that saved my life once, I like this no nonsense video! Thank you!
You're welcome. I hope it helped. Thank for watching!
How did the knife save your life?
I make my own as well. Never thought to clamp it in a tray. Great idea. Less mess. great video
Thank you ! :)
I really enjoyed watching this. Very nice pace to the video. Thank you for showing the details of this technique 👍🏼
Thanks Bernie. The music is great for a slow build. ;)
that chisel work - wow! you have me re-thinking the wax paper that I use.
Shogun-Jimi Haha ! the chiseling was the hardest part 😉 Thanks Jimi.
Came out nice and even. Look forward to seeing them on the project.
Soon ;) Thanks for watching.
Awesome stuff man never thought of using felt buddy 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
+Diesineveryfilm Customs Thanks man. I tried to use what I had. And it worked pretty well. 😉

That would be very cool !!!

Thank you ! I don't know, I've never seen that either. But you gave me an idea ;)
Thank you for the video and I really like the plastic dish idea.
Thank you very much. The plastic dish helps a lot as cheap and reusable mold :)
I’m guessing if you put tick marks on the plastic dish like 1/4 3/8” then you would get the micarta closer to the finished size easier? Any thoughts on that thanks for the video
Nice!!! It came out great! :)
Thank you. Now I just have to make something with it ;)
I bet you already know what to do! xD
Yes I do ;)
Nice. Those layers look great when exposed
Thanks. I hope it will be nice on a knife ;)
Awesome video man! Micarta is on my list of builds, I've been watching a bunch of videos lately of people making it. Love the Red Smith colors.
Thank you Dan. I had no black flet, otherwise it would have been black & red, once again ;)
Good to change color for once !
Super clean results. Great job man!
Thank you !
hey man I realy love that clear tape on the wood trick that's such a simple solution, very cool thanks for sharing .
You're welcome. Happy to share if it helps ;)
Thanks for watching !
Very cool. Well executed

Great job! Should be a fun piece to a project.
Thanks Chris. I hope it will. It's a little thin but it should be just fine for what I've got in mind ;)
super nice result :D
i'm curious to see what you'll make with it...
Thanks Olivier. You were a great inspiration for this one ! ;)
Olivier Chambon And you got credits on the descirption 😉🖒
Nicely done! 🤓👍🏼
Thank you very much !
Yes....finally, someone used epoxy!!! The colors stay true and the Micarta is even stronger than using that nasty smelling yellow/brown fiberglass resin!
Thanks. You're right, the colors are still the same, before and after.
very good, could you tell me what fabric you used to make it?
@@gastonemmanuelespinoza2714 Thank you! I used red and white felt. Thanks for watching.
Interesting choice of music for this video..... makes it feel like your doing some serious work...
Very interesting indeed how music changes our perception of things. I'm always serious when I'm working but no serious work here :) Thanks for watching.
mesmerizing...
Thank you Jessie. The music helps a lot ;)
wow great.looking good. what is the material?
Thank you. I used felt. Glad you liked it.
You should use those to make a knife because you'll get to see the layers when you form the curves to fit your hand
That's the plan ;) Thanks Chad !
Looks great, but still some bubbles noticeable at top red glossy surface. How to make without them?
Thanks. I should have used a torch or some kind of heat source to get rid of the bubbles. Didn't have anything at the time to do it. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! I need to get some casting resin!
Thanks Michael. Yes, you should. It's fun to play with ;)
micarta is just cloth epoxied together? mind blown!
alaskankare Cloth or paper. Mostly paper. 😊
I would have loved to have seen these made into knife handles
It's the plan ;) Thanks for watching!
Great video! What was in the cups (Ax2 and Bx1) and where can you buy it at?
Thanks a lot! It's written in the video description :)
Amazon, Gédéo crystal clear two part resine.
I like the plastic tub method you used. What brand epoxy are you using? I would like to try it.
I used crystal epoxy from Gédéo. Not the best one for the job, but the only one I could find at the time. You can use the cheapest clear epoxy you can find for micarta as long as you let it cure fully. Thanks for watching!
Vraiment un beau résultat! Est-ce que tu utilises de l’époxy spécial ou c’est la même que tu utilises pour coller des manches?
Merci. J'ai utilisé de l'epoxy Cristal je crois, différente de la bi-composante pour coller.
Interesting!
Thank you !
good job💪
JENNI.SWISS Thanks Lukas !
What type of fabric did you use and does it matter what fabric you use? Also does the thickness of the fabric make a difference?
I used felt. You can use anything. If you use thicker fabric you will need more resin and get a thicker micarta. Hope it helps.
Can this be done with construction paper?
Yes, micarta is usually paper in epoxy.
Cool!
Thanks Andrew

Thanks Lonnie !
Nice.....!!!!
Thanks Eloy.
Hello,
some of the best looking micarta I have seen.
Great job!

Thanks a lot and welcome aboard!!
What fabric is best to use?
Felt works well, any fabric will do
oh man, you just gave me an idea.....
Nice. ;)
That came out so sharp :D
Can't wait to see what you make with it! Knife handles?
Yes, it's for a knife handle. Have to experimente something for the blade before making the video.
The Redsmith Nice, Red! Can't wait to see :D
What kind of resin/epoxy is that
"Hello, nice video. Could you please tell me what kind of epoxy you used?"

Nice. They look like bacon when they are done. I love bacon.
Thanks. Me too :)
You do no talking videos like me...but this is bad point for us. but we survive, haha
R Santana Exactly 😊
love the info, BUT the music is really not working!!!!
Thanks. And I agree. At the time I was only working with free RUclips music and it was not the best match. Thanks for watching!

I wish 2 things first please talk about what you are doing and show the end result in a knife handle
That was not the point of this video, but it will happen soon.
Good job،،🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
Thank you!!
I felt let down?
Feel felt up?

Why don't you talk?
Why should I?
