Non-removable display cable on DPVR E4 is a NO-GO for me. REminds me of the Rift S, when Meta/Oculus decided to stop making replacement cables. No good. If cable breaks, you 400+ $ / Euro vR headset turns into an expensive doorstep. Manufacturers should at least make easy user replace-able display cables.

Probably the biggest factor is comfort and accessibility of the hardware to actually run it well, a £1000 pc is usually the place where lots of first time buyers purchase a pc but most are also prebuilt and are on a 60/600 class card, frame rate isn't the issue per say but frame consistency so you wanna really be looking at a 70/700 series card at the minimum to run a game like borderlands 2 VR without any stutter or jitter and that's a harsh reality that most people are unwilling to pony up the money on, their £1500 pc was expensive enough and they'll feel they've paid enough and will rarely feel like dropping upwards of £400 for a base level headset like the quest 2 which would also be preferred to have a decent wireless headset in the best case so looking at another £100 roughly.
Ultimately the biggest thing holding the genre back is the price, some would say that as hardware gets more powerful the lower end parts will be able to cope better but the sad reality is that a low end card will always be aimed at 1080p and that's just not enough, 4060 vs 3060 is a great example, usually only 10-15% faster and is actually worse in a lot of cases in higher resolutions because it simply doesn't have the bus width to cope.
Another compelling factor is the relatively low barrier to entry that PSVR offers, full set up for less than a decent entry level proper PC i.e. one that has a proper graphics card, issue being that it is basically what the Nintendo switch is to a home console, gets the job done but not all that impressive in some ways, probably the biggest factor being the library and performance of available titles, the mainstream consumer would merely point at it and say I like VR and they're happy and that's it, leaving the true enthusiast sector untouched because lets face it one valve index and a good pc to run it will cost 2-3x what a PSVR setup would and unless you know the difference and it excites you to experience it, you'll just see the money difference and say I'm good.
Bit long winded but when you break down the real issues that VR would face to become mainstream at least one of the main factors of cost, enthusiasm or availability would need to change. If a true entry level £600 amazon pre built pc can actually provide a good experience in say the next 3 years and it can play most of the games well in VR, there will be a boom for sure

Decent games that are released on a consistent basis!
We have all the hardware now, headsets from 2023 are insane and have massively overtaken what are gpu’s can power. It’s now time for games to catch up. People will play vr if they have a compelling reason to do so. I’ll buy a ps5 and psvr2 if they give me a compelling reason too, so far there is no reason to buy one compared to pcvr and quest 2 stand-alone. Only half life Alyx is a genuine system seller and that was four years ago. Until the big boy platforms get studios to port vr into big flat screen games, vr will always be in the shadows.
I love VR, I sim race on pc daily and play normal campaign games too, but I’m so tired of seeing non stop new tech but no new real games to play on them.

I would say it already is. "Meta" has sold over 22 million headsets.
