I remember when I was a kid we got towed from Port Elgin NB to Summerside PEI. My Dad always joked that we "pushed the other boat on a starched rope" for the day. LOVE your videos, have been binge watching from the beginning the last couple of weeks. Cheers from Halifax NS.
APRIL 4th Easter Morning NC Coast near Lockwood Folly Inlet having coffee this am watching as I just found your channel. Hope for an easy repair and fair winds.
Tough passage made worse by the breakdowns. I feel your pain. Sailing is hard work, often in uncomfortable conditions. When I’m caught in Bad weather or seas it feels relentless and like it will never get better. Good luck.
That made me queasy and I wasn’t even on the boat. Congrats on pushing through, in my early days I would have cut short to safe harbour. You both are much more determined
Dudes greetings from the UK. 🇬🇧 You guys should read and record an audio book about sailing.. absolutely brilliant voices. Also great videos guys keep up the great work.
You’re quite brave sitting below decks and dodging fishing boats using AIS. Round my way, quite a few turn AIS off so as not to alert competition where they’ve found fish.
Every episode I only see Bill caring for the Sails? I'm not comparing I only know your boat and Brian's. Is it because your boat is smaller ? I see on Brian's boat there is always help with the sails and the ropes. just wondering. So glad you made it though that storm! Do you ever feel like giving up the boat due to not long ago the tranny needed to be fixed and now the motor. : ( you will always have things break. with the winds you battle the boat takes a beating. till next episode :)
There’s a few reasons for that. In this one I was very seasick. I get seasick a lot and bill doesnt. We also do things ‘the harder way’ a lot bc it’s quicker and he’s stronger so that’s no problem but I can’t (example head into the wind to raise the mainsail). Bill is a very salty sailor and it comes easily to him to jump around and handle the lines. I’m not nearly as sure footed it just doesn’t come naturally so especially in rough conditions he’s the one to move around. Delos has electric winches and a wide side deck and big well designed cockpit which makes moving around easier. The other thing is I’m the primary filmer. Bill rarely picks up the camera it’s just not in his nature. So we just kinda fell more into assigned roles based on what we’re naturally good at is probably the best answer. It’s easier to film then move around when I’m seasick so that’s what I do! Yes we do want to give up sometimes for sure. We just talk about it and try to focus on the goal and big picture. Then you adjust your expectations and move on. But definitely can be hard. You have some really good questions Hazel!! Keep them coming :)
I know these videos are months behind but its funny how much i needed to watch this sucks you guys are struggling but somehow makes me feel not alone in mine so thanks so much....i just left boat for 4 days hit a wall with all the boat projects i have done and have left soi took a break to just take care of myself glad i did Wanagi needed it too im sure...
@@CalicoSkiesSailing so appreciate you sharing the ups and downs! I hope I can join you out there. If you want a visit to Lake Ontario. I need to add a stay sail and a windlass and an autopilot and solar. So many projects!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing thank you for the info. It’s funny but most of my playlists are made up from music that I would never heard if it wasn’t for you tube channels lol thank Delos for that, that started me off 😀 tatono, is one artist I am so glad I was introduced to but so many non commercial artists are now my favourite ever. Love you guys fair winds and much happiness x
I haven't watched all the videos Calico has, just a few from the Bahamas, a few where Ms 1st Ma-tie got on another boat & the Annapolis to Maine & return to this video & has anyone noticed, Ms 1st Ma-tie spends more time at sea, sea-sick than well. Have yawl also noticed, when SHE was ON the other boat, seems she pulled more of the weight of a "1st Mate" than she does on Calico? SEEMS, "HE" does ALL the WORK while she sits on her azz.
Watching how you guys live let’s me know that boat life isn’t for me I don’t care how beautiful the places are staying on a small boat with another person is not my idea of a good time. Probably smells it’s probably damp and moldy not the best stuff to be breathing in day in day out but hey different strokes for different folks I just would have zero desire

Oh interesting! I was born in NB :) that’s pretty funny 😁 so happy you’re enjoying them. We loveeeee NS!!!
I like your fuel saving strategy. Get your mates to tow you. Lol. Love your videos
😂😂😂 Andy Boy was joking about that!!!
The joys of sailing, thanks for your effort to share with us.
Our pleasure! BOATS LOL, Can't live with them cant live without them! 😂
I love the suspense. I can't wait to watch the next episode. Awesome video and i love the drama. Be proud of what you have accomplished. What courage!
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback!
“As much fun as we are having” lol, awesome video!!!
Thank you!! 😁

What a grumpy guy that fishing boat guy was. You were very polite. I was shouting expletives at him via my screen.
😂 he was NOT helpful at all! Just trying to make sure I didn’t get tangled in his gear!

So true! Theres no escaping bad weather on a small boat!
Things always get better !
Keep heading south and soon your feet will be in the sand !!!!!
We are in the Florida keys in real time! Been going on some great dives and generally hanging at the beach 😎
Love that you guys show the good times along with the challenges ⛵️ keeping it real !
Thanks! We try and show the up's and down's of our lifestyle, its not all sunsets and cocktails! 😂

Thanks so much!! No wind, no motor = not a comfortable motion 😂
Determined or stubborn, not sure which LOL.
Great stuff friends! Keep it up.
Thanks! 🥰
That's Murphy's Law, everything that can go wrong, will go wrong! Thank you for keeping it real!

Maybe one day! Thanks for watching! Where are you from in the UK? Bill went to high school in Surrey :)
Leicestershire. Right in the middle of England. Surrey is a lovely place.
Nice job with the thow back segment
Thanks! We were wondering if people were wondering about the engineering behind adding a staysail 😀
As usual keeping it real! Maybe it's time to consider a bigger motor for the dingy or a couple sets of oars...
😂Our 15hp is about the most horsepower our dink can handle, dang it! It actually can get the boat moving at 4 knots, just not in those seas!
I really like your intro video !
Thank you!!
agreed not to film bad things unless resolved ,, I saw that hit n the the cheek .. so good u mates safe
😜😎 glad it’s wasn’t a worse injury!
well done Guys XX
👍
You and Delos sailed together for so long I'm surprised there was no goodbye scene.
It was more a see ya later, we were only separated a week or so :)
You’re quite brave sitting below decks and dodging fishing boats using AIS. Round my way, quite a few turn AIS off so as not to alert competition where they’ve found fish.
I would not have been so trusting of the ais system. Eyes and boots as the sayin goes.
Very true, we weren’t just using ais, we were checking the horizon as well, we also have radar running 24/7.
@@CalicoSkiesSailing good channel by the way - loved the Maine sailing.
Thanks! Maine was an awesome spot to cruise, glad we checked it out!

@@CalicoSkiesSailing . I didn't want to sound rude. thank you Grace for not taking as me being rude. I'm learning. I understand what your saying.
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Omg sorry you guys had such trouble!
Thanks!! All's well that ends well lol, In real time we made it down the Florida Keys and are enjoying sunshine and clear water 😎
@@CalicoSkiesSailing thats awsome! Glad you are in warmer weather! Wouldn't mind being broken down in those waters 😁😁
Def more natural to be a cruising down here!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing omg the crab pots alone!!🤣🤣
Thank you for sharing your adventures. Loved the video. Where are you headed??
Thanks for watching! We are headed for Panama and hopefully the pacific! We are current in Florida hanging out at the Dry Tortugas
Looks rough, I am sorry you have to deal with seasickness.
Thanks, the boat was handling it awesome up until the engine failed DOH🙃
So very true sailing, not like those CHAMPAGNE-SUNDOWNER channels. Talk about seasickness, they, not you, don't know the half of it.
Aww thanks! Such sweet feedback. Maybe we should try a little more champagne sailing for our mental well being! HAHA
Do you have a fuel scrubbing system ? Foul weather always stirs up bugs in the fuel tank.
We don't.. but keep tuned, we had fuel issues plague us the entire way down the east coast....

What makes you want to keep going?
I guess the novelty of the travel and destinations plus they always say blue water sailors easily forget the bad experiences 😂

Rough passage and tough times but you guys are resilient and have got very good friends 😊. Btw, what MFD do you use that shows wind pattern like that?
We have the B&G Zeus 2. Sailing specific software on the B&G chartplotters, pretty cool!

STORM SAILORS !
Ha despite our best efforts to stay out of bad weather it seems to find us! LOL
So how did Bill’s pink pants get wet?
How'd ya know they were mine 😉
Long line?
Luckily didn't seem that way! 😂
👍🤭🎥🎬🎯😩👀⛵️👍
Why so many pairs of sunglasses?
because they tend to fall overboard more often than not. Speaking from experience. even with croakies!
Ha we tend to break or loose them! They are actually all off eBay and we swap arms and pieces as needed 😂. Crazy sailors!
We both wear the same model over and over...
@@CalicoSkiesSailing Great idea; clever!
Now Why would Russians be fishing in our waters humm to good winds mates from FL
