IDF spox claims forces did not 'strike' Gaza aid convoy | English

Israel Defence Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari denied allegations that troops opened fire at a crowd of Palestinians rushing to a convoy delivering humanitarian aid into Gaza City on Thursday, while claiming that "[Israel's war] is against Hamas, not against the people of Gaza."
"The Israel Defence Forces operate according to the rules of engagement and international law. No IDF strike was conducted towards the aid convoy. ... On the contrary - the IDF was there conducting a humanitarian operation," Hagari said
The Gaza Health Ministry claims troops 'opened fire' at the crowd, reportedly injuring over 700 people and killing at least 104 others collecting aid. Northern Gaza no longer has any operable health facilities after Kamal Adwan Hospital reported running out of fuel one day before the incident.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the incident an 'ugly massacre conducted by the Israeli occupation army.'
While denying that Israeli forces were conducting strikes at the aid convoy, Hagari claimed that soldiers monitoring the aid delivery 'to secure the humanitarian corridor' fired 'warning shots' into the sky to disperse a 'mob' that gathered around the convoy before it arrived at the designated distribution spot.
"As these vital humanitarian supplies were making their way towards Gazans in need, thousands of Gazans descended upon the trucks. Some began violently pushing and even trampling other Gazans to death, looting the humanitarian supplies," the spokesperson said.
"When the hundreds became thousands and things got out of hand, the tank commander decided to retreat to avoid harm to the thousands of Gazans that were there," he continued.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reported that humanitarian aid deliveries in Gaza have halved since the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to enable the provision of aid into the strip in January.
"We want humanitarian aid to reach the people of Gaza. We are working around the clock to make this happen. Israel puts no limits on the amount of aid that can go into Gaza," Hagari concluded.
Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200 according to Israeli officials.
Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 30,000 people had been killed and more than 70,000 injured at time of publication.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
