Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 -- July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an "inventive" trumpet and cornet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence in jazz, shifting the focus of the music from collective improvisation to solo performance. With his instantly-recognizable gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also skilled at scat singing (vocalizing using sounds and syllables instead of actual lyrics).

Definitely one of the things worth living for.
That's probably something Woody Allen would say :)
Yea and west end blues plus bix beiderbecke river boat shuffle class
Yea west end blues weather bird bid beiderbecke river boat shuffle
@@elaiah-almostgoodperson3747 it is a quote from Allen's movie, "Manhattan", as he lists off things that make life worth living, along with Groucho Marx, Willie Mays and Flaubert's novel Sentimental Education.
@@bjohnston3659 lol I know, that’s why i wrote this comment
"one of the things that makes life worth living"

@@sub_atomic1839 Ayo I'm a pro, the first chorus is trompet + clarinett second chorus is a trumped solo-improvisation, leads over to trumped ending

Makes life worth living
Manhattan brought me here :)
The greatest jazz track of all time. Even better than West End Blues.
"Well, all right, why is life worth living? That's a very good question. Well, there are certain things, I guess, that make it worthwhile. [...], Louis Armstrong's
recording of Potato Head Blues." Manhattan (1979) (D, Woody Allen)
This is one of the highest achievements of human mind.
Quisiera aprender a bailar jazz
This song should be our National Anthem. No doubt about it.
PERREABLE
I listen to this when I'm sad. And, suddenly things are not so bad anymore. Thank you, Mr. Armstrong!
The sweet memories of the Louis' wonderful solo brought me here
The Best recording with the first Real jazz improviser in the World. Louis Armstrong in his Prime.
I'm old now, but I'm happy and do you know why? Cause I hear Potato head blues! Francesco from far Italy

That stop - time chorus!!!!!!
I'm just happy hearing this.
It is a miracle of casual, plain genius at work. Here is fine art, just moulded and created as if by chance or casual meeting, but, it is a great gift to us as players listeners, heirs.
Amazing clarinet solo !!!
Fabulous, fabulous. This is how to live well--by feeling this mood.
My favorite, one of the very best of Louis, love it
thanks for sharing one of the greatest
Thank you, Louis ❤️ I love your 🎶 soooo much 🙏
Grande Louis, me pone a disfrutar la vida :)
As woody Allen said this song is a good reason to live
One of the best songs ever. Thank you for sharing :)
Sublime
This is so great.
Wowwww jazz 4ever
.-LOUIS ARMSTRONG AND HIS HOT SEVEN. “ POTATO HEAD BLUES” (1927).
Johnny Dodds (clarinete), Lil Armstrong (piano), Johnny St. Cyr (banjo y guitarra).

This just makes me happy :)
Great stuff. Thanks.

And me too!!! Lol!! After Manhattan...excellent movie!!
Cryingly gooood!
Eerily and hauntingly beautiful. Imagine walking into an old dilapidated house you stumble on in the woods and this record playing on an old turntable.
Jazz straordinario.
Classic
Great, THANKS ;o)
Bill & Ted's daughters brought me here. Most excellent!
Same here. Glad they did. Party on dude
Every now and again something comes along that makes you roll off your chair and laugh because nothing could so good. Bix Beiderbecke. Sidney Bechet. This.
One of those things...

Everyone is saying I’m here cuz of my music teacher.
Realizes that that’s why I’m here
ಠ_ಠ
im honoured to say that, while i cannot get a single note from a trumpet, i can whistle this in its entirely.
Left Hand Man 1307, from 10 months below, is right as rain. This SHOULD be our National Anthem. It embodies brilliance, freedom, hope, ingenuity.

Where can I find a recording of "when" by Bix? According to legend Louis was about 27 when he recorded this. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm opting for both.
In fact he was 25. This was recorded May 10, 1927 in Chicago. Louis was born Aug. 4, 1901. His 26th birthday was still 3 months away. Absolutely remarkable how much ahead of his time Pops was. Charlie Parker, Miles, Dizzy and others all loved and admired his unique solo, still studied today in music courses. His seminal recording of "West End Blues" was to follow almost exactly a year later. His musical imagination seemed boundless.
