What are YOUR thoughts on the PlayStation Portal in 2024?
i have the middle tier of ps so i wont be able to stream games? do i have to have the highest tier?
Mine worked great from day one, but my ps5 is Ethernet hardwired and I have great wifi. Love it so convenient to play anywhere in the house.
I have 400mps wifi is that fast enough you think?

Crazy. I have the opposite experience. Streaming is donkeyshit. But the remote play works wonders.
If you have good home internet and your PS5 is connected to your network via Ethernet, this doesn’t surprise me at all - especially if you’re playing remotely at home. Pinging something sitting mere feet away is clearly going to be faster vs streaming data from a server that’s potentially hundreds of miles away.
I think it gets a little confusing, most people want to play mmo which you can do. You need to have your ps5 set up for remote play and have rest mode enabled with a both
Stay Connected to the Internet: This allows your PS5 to remain connected to the network even while in Rest Mode.
Enable Turning On PS5 from Network: This allows you to wake the PS5 up remotely via the PlayStation Portal.
Then as long as you have a half decent WiFi you can still play your Fortnite’s etc. you can also hotspot from a 5G device so if you have unlimited data which are pretty affordable nowadays you should be set.
We needa pressure them into adding 5G on this thing lmao

@@sebastianmuswere2700 they’ll add Bluetooth but trust me, you won’t be connecting any AirPods to it. You’ll have to buy their proprietary earbuds to actually have access to sound via Bluetooth 😂

The last thing to make this worth it, would be if Sony updated the Portal (and PS5) for it to use WiFi Direct instead of general WiFi, so that we can stream our games directly from the PS5 instead of the WiFi middleman, similar how the Wii U had it. That way we can also get some asymmetric style gameplay for certain games (for example, a minimap/hud on the portal)
okay quick question… which might’ve been answered in this video already.. do i need a ps5 in order to play this like its a nintendo switch ? can i just buy the playstation plus & play games with just using that? or do i need a ps5 in order to play it on the go like a nintendo switch?
It kinda makes me feel like it’s almost useless if you already have a ps5.
Because, Will I always have good enough WiFi in those places where I’ll want to play my ps portal? Not sure
It would’ve been cool if it had the ability to download at least like one or two games at a time, so you could actually play ps portal anywhere anytime like an actual handheld.
But right now it heavily depends on a strong WiFi connection and it’s just too much risk to buy if you’re an owner of a ps5.
The fact you need wifi 24/7 just to play makes it not worth buying.. people want a game that they can play on the go both online and offline
Who doesn't have access to Wi-Fi all the time in 2024/25....or a hotspot via cellular? This is the best $200 dollars I've spent lately.

@@amexemoor443agreed . wifi and cellular data is used everywhere now a-days. Anyone that says the 200$ for this device is not worth it is speaking directly out their ass . Its one of my best and most cherished gifts I cant this year , and all i can say is good news about this psp (and this is coming from someone who’s wifi is shitty). You wanna play offline , like a previous comment i saw , invest in a switch bud .
We have phones with Hotspot. For $20] this a steal

Thanks for the review, I bought a ps portal and don’t have a ps5 cos I prefer handheld consoles due to work. I’m quite happy with the purchase so far. I have ok WiFi not the best so about 60mb/h and it streams great for me. Only down side is the games catalog are a bit small, but I know it’s still Beta mode and suspect they are adding more games to it later

@@macairhead5137stick drift was a pain with N64 controllers, no matter how careful u were those 90% always got fucked within a year or so. These new dualshock ones? Only if you aggressively tilt the damn thing man, or if you drop it lmao

Yes but only connects to Sony 3d pulse headphones
Tried to play multiple games and cant, due to the fact i cant press the touch pad to press START.. THE CLOUD STREAMING IS NOT GOOD AND SHOULD NOT BE A THING
Great review. I have a PS4 and there are some games I want to play on the PS5. The new update is a great alternative if my wife wants to use the TV to play something else.

No only what's on the cloud for now
so I recently got a portal for my son. We subscribed to ps plus premium to be able to cloud stream. The issue I am having is that when we first got the premium, I was able to see all the game catalog on the portal, the same as the ps5 console. This morning, the portal game catalog got so short only see like 50-60 games now. Is there a reason why that happened?
You can always figure if you need a better internet :) But it does not do it all. I sell internet plans and I use mine but the remote exp got way better when I got a ps5 pro...just saying ;) Anyways, I hope you figure it out because I love the 2 fonctions equally now :)

Might as well just get a ps5 first and a portal next. Kind of weird to have a portal without a console. But in the end to each their own.

Still not woth it, mine will only work if it's connected to the same network as the ps5 and I've tried everything I can find online that's supposed to resolve this issue, nothing has... So it's just a really expensive controller

I think you are doing something wrong. I left my ps 5 at home and went to my parents house in another city. Connected my tablet to their wifi and launched remote play app. It had some latency but single player games worked well enough. I have been thinking about getting the portal because I'm sure it will do a better job than my tablet does. I wouldn't play any online fps games tho. And now with streaming portal sonds like a good deal.
Have you connected your PS5 via wire? It doesn’t work well if the PS5 is on WiFi!

No you can't, there are limited games in the beta (which is accessible by premium ps plus). If you want to play fifa (which is not included in beta catalog) you need to have ps5. And yes you can play fifa online if you have ps5 and it's installed in it.

@@Thats-What-We-Dewwwwwsteam deck is micro compared to the lego. I have my lego dual booted with steam os and its on a whole different planet. Had a day 1 steam deck and hated the screen/performance.
I’m getting rid of mine, it’s completely useless, I can’t play it outside of my house, cause I’m out of range of my WiFi network, I have a T mobile hotspot and this pos won’t connect to my ps5, I keep getting the message something went wrong. If someone can help I would appreciate it.

Still not worth it. Just release a proper handheld. I'd easily pay €300 if it was like an upgraded psp/vita
The downside is what games are on PS Plus meaning you still need a PS5 if you want those exclusives. No Spider-Man 1 or 2. None of the horizon games, no uncharted 2.
It’s still in beta. Relax. There’s still over 120 games available and it’s been growing since the beta started

A lot of people complain about the need for a good WiFi.. why is that an issue?
In Sweden, it's impossible to go anywhere with access to good WiFi.
5G is taking over, and people usually subscribe for free surf on their phones, so a hotspot is always there. Maybe other countries don't have that.

WiFi or 5G, doesn’t really matter how you’re getting data. What matters is the speed with which you get the data to and from the device. WiFi is generally more stable and often faster than 5G but not always. I can’t speak to the exact specs on what you need for it to function properly but figure anywhere between 10-30 MB/s and 5G should be able to do that depending on the distance from the nearest 5G access point and the 5G band you’re using.
TLDR; You should be good.

Sucks, I was excited to see this and wanted this, but the cons definitely outweigh the pros. Plus, a newer version may come out within the next year and be the PlayStation Portal Plus lol. Probably best to wait to buy one.
100% not worth it if your in Australia like myself. You can't even cloud stream the free games yet. Waste of money imo $330 retail price here. Wonder when Australia will have access to the cloud streaming hmmmm
