    I believe we have the ability to have total control over our bodies. Our brain, out genes, our cells, everything. Placebo effect is a peek into what's possible. One day science will show this.

    @Creaky Metaphysical is a word you may want .
    The term metaphysical refers to the branch of philosophy that deals with the fundamental nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and matter, substance and attribute, and potentiality and actuality. It is concerned with abstract concepts such as existence, identity, change, space and time, cause and effect, necessity, actuality, and possibility 12. The word “meta” means beyond, so metaphysical means beyond physical, beyond the normal and ordinary 3. The term “metaphysical” was coined by Andronicus of Rhodes, a first-century BC Aristotelian editor, who assembled fourteen books of Aristotle’s works into the treatise we now know by the name Metaphysics 2.
    In summary, metaphysical is a philosophical term that deals with the fundamental nature of reality and abstract concepts beyond the physical world.

    _"So placebo is an inert substance, it has no pharmacologic or medical action."_
    It's not just "an inert substance". That's only one way of defining it. Another way to define it is to say that a placebo is a conscious intention that is suggested to another conscious observer.
    _"So a placebo effect is the pharmocologic or beneficial effect that a patient gets from getting that inert substance."_
    Nope. Nothing is coming from the inert substance. No effect. Zero. It's all coming from the power of the mind or consciousness, which is [somehow, and we don't properly understand this yet, ] overriding biological and/or genetic functions to produce effects which are not predicted in current medical science.

    The real test would be switching a patient on long term high dose narcotics to a placebo without their consent whatsoever and see if they go into withdrawals or not

      Criminal!!!! you don’t have pain or never have had it because if you did, this would be an outrage. Sure narcs are addictive but there are also other pain relievers that are also replaced with these fake relievers, the fact that they are doing this w/o consent is an outrage, whether they are replacing steroids, narc, or anything that maybe helping the patients. It’s wrong!!!!!!!!!

    a lot is unsaid here. he couches his comments in such a way to insure his continued presence at Stanford and in medicine generally- would the patient continue to feel improvement if one stopped at the placebo ? how about looking at the societal , cultural and economic reasons why its assumed that maximum pain relief is desired ?

    • @klp7620
      @klp7620 3 месяца назад

      there is no such thing. Yes if you have pain in one or more areas of your body, the pain receptors from one area will beat out the other so you may only feel the pain from the most intense area but if you have pain in one area and they give you the steroid injection, or the anesthetic, or the narc or whatever it is and there is no real medication, that pain receptor is still going to be receiving the pain. I think this is really just a way of finding and discerning the fakers, and the addicts from those with real pain and it isn’t fair to those who actually have pain. I have to say if it’s an addict, they will know in a second if you don’t give them that narc.. and yes, no meds but narcs will help them and it’s hard to discern if they are having pain, just want the drug or both. PAIN IS REAL

    maby it has something to do with evolution
    people who are very confident(had a succesfull life) will heal, but the not confident(the ones that are genarally weaker then the confident humans) wont heal.
    this means that the stronger genes get passed on

    • @Krosis835
      @Krosis835 4 года назад

      Does the genetic information determine strictly the amount of the confidence that a person can have ? Or, confidance is a variable thing that can be effected by a collection of physical and mental factors?
