We really need a follow up on this story. She seemed so far the most open, most self-aware and mature of all the people you’ve interviewed. She’s really taking in all the info and she just needed guidance and besides the points you made (on the negative) she seems to be in good financial head space for her age. I am praying that everything goes well with the results and hopefully this will just be fuel to build that emergency fund. Please please follow up on her! ❤
This is the first episode that didn't give me anxiety. She is a hustler and is genuinely open and ready to learn. She will do well. Blessings with her health, first and foremost, of course.
She's young and pretty really should find a man to help take care of her if she's willing to take care of their household. Maybe give him some babies before she gets to many miles on her. But she's from Portland probably a liberal she don't get a traditional man. Just a soy boy or a giga Chad who don't wanna pay for shiiiiiit
I hope everything goes great for her. She’s the best person you’ve interviewed so far I think. I had the same abnormality and biopsy done. It came back negative and the abnormality cleared within 4 years. It’s anxiety inducing but it’s always good to hope for the best. Best of luck to her
I hope you get good news from your doctor, and even if everything isn't perfect, know there is many very treatable stages before cancer. I was diagnosed with high grade lesions on my cervix, and felt terrified because "high grade" sounded so scary and advanced past several stages. However, very thankfully my body was able to resolve it on it's own over a year and a half. But know even if they don't resolve on their own there is multiple procedures to remove those cells before they get anywhere close to becoming cancerous.
I’m waiting on my own biopsy right now after finding out I had Low Grade Squamous Epitherial Lesions which I think are similar and it’s very stressful. I’m glad to hear it can be resolved on its own or treated before worsening
I had a procedure to have my problematic cells removed. As someone with severe anxiety, I was hysterical. All clear now, but my flare ups reside on their own. Stay strong ❤
@@allisonwanderlust3998 I had that and you just go in and they cut out the cells right there in the office (doesn't hurt, just feels like minor period cramps), and you get a another pap a few months later to see if it comes back normal. It all sounds really scary but it's truly not the end of the world! Hope it all worked out for you!
I had some issues as well. They froze my cervix and it never came back. I had a hysterectomy about 22 years later for other reasons, but in all that time it never came back.
Binge watching your channel, I’m so rooting for this beautiful young lady. She’s not lazy and seems pretty responsible. To get a concerning diagnosis at such a young age is a gut punch. Keep up with the hard work Sarah and optimize your abilities. 🙏🏽 prayer’s to you and best of luck.
I'm a recent colon cancer survivor. Missed a year of work. Spent 8 weeks in intensive care, four of those weeks I was in a coma. I hope no one has to go through what I did. I'm doing great now, thank God for good insurance.
Damn, sorry you had to go through that. I’ve been having stomach problems for a while now and this is my ultimate fear. I need to follow up with my doctor but have been putting it off.
Not finance related, but I had that biopsy that she’s talking about. It’s terrifying to have that on your mind, let alone worrying about insurance. Mine came back cancerous, but had the procedure to remove them. As Caleb said, you have to put your health first. Get that insurance, even if it’s for piece of mind. You got this. Stay strong ❤
Sometimes there is just "abnormal cell growth" that they want to keep track of and sometimes do a biopsy. Mine ended up being nothing. She's young, and should be ok.
I’m surprised to see a RUclipsr I watch regularly on here but your honesty makes me enjoy you even more Sarah! I enjoyed watching your pixie cut videos while I was growing mine out. I hope everything works out for you, I’m rooting for you.
Without knowing all details and not to minimize this young lady’s scary situation, but to all the young females out there, just fyi - many times on the first mammogram, they say “we see something suspicious…..and we want to get more pictures”. It freaks us all out. It’s only because they don’t have a baseline picture yet so they don’t know what is “normal” for your body yet. Fingers crossed that further tests come out fine for her, sending positive energies her way. I’m so glad she went to the doctor - even in the tough financial position she’s in. Our country needs a healthcare system so badly.
CALEB: Please look into auto insurance that is necessary for when you run DoorDash or any other delivery of food or people. Most insurance companies require a special extra insurance for that and if you are caught using your car for this commercial reason and, they will pay ZERO towards that accident! Please look into this, and help spread the word.
@@thefunfam1433 Okay, good to know. In my state if you’re using your vehicle for commercial purposes of any kind you must have that added to your policy.
Well now that I watched in full, the tears make sense. Wishing her the best. I really thought it was from being scolded and actually kind of wished that was why.

I live in Portland as well and I had Kaiser Permanente for three years and I loved it, everything is in the same building and there are no hidden costs you pay your copays when you get to the hospital and they don't send you random bills after that it's all taken care of. My employer switched to United Healthcare two months ago and it's absolutely dreadful, everything requires prior authorization and they basically fight with me over the phone and don't even want to cover asthma medication. Same story with Aetna in Portland. Just go with Providence or Kaiser and you'll be happy. I really hope you won't need it, just trying to save you stressful situations with claims later on. Hopefully everything is good with your health and it's just a false alarm ♥️
Hey Sarah, I had a breast biopsy at 26 because I had a lump. Everything was OK but I remember all of that scary anxiety surrounding it. Cysts are so common in your breasts, ovaries, etc do don't panic. I hope all is ok
Caleb, have you considered making these people a rudimentary waterfall chart of their expenses? Each line item you go through on these videos they explain away but they need to see the total impact of it in a chart.
Awww I like Sarah. She seems sweet and wants to learn and do better. I hope she gets good news and can focus on building a great life with her partner from here on out.
I encourage her to ask if the medical center where she is getting the procedure has any financial assistance. Most have something available and they are often tiered based on income. Best of luck!
Yes more people need to know this, most hospitals have money set aside at the beginning of the year. Often it runs out by years end, so beginning of the year is the best time to ask.
I don’t comment very often but just wanted to say I hope everything goes well for Sarah with her health! I think she’s making the right decisions financially, just another case of poor financial education in our education systems. But at least she’s on the right track!
I love directing people to the Caleb Hammer videos because the message is better received by them then if I say I have an idea about how they can improve their budget
Hey lady, I had a biopsy for what sounds like the same thing. I had to be checked repeatedly every few months for about a year, then every six months for a couple years. It is scary, but sometimes your body *can* take care of what's going on. I also developed an unrelated cancer about a decade after that and I went through many tests, imaging, and chemo. It is scary, but we live in a time of excellent medical care and OHSU specifically is fantastic. Fingers crossed you get good news soon. If you don't, keep the faith and advocate for yourself like crazy. Be the squeaky wheel.
You may not agree with it but the moral compass and to some extent the religion plays a part in where people end up. No coincidence that folks who regularly attend a religious organization and have what most would consider good morals tend to be more financially sound. Not always but it's been my observation. Would be curious to see unbiased data.
@codystockton3799 I got nothing against religious people and actually live in a very Christian part of the USA, but I can tell you with confidence that that is bs. In my experience, most "religious" people are fake and use that religion to justify crappy character
@Luna RaynWolf I didn't say the two were mutually exclusive. One isn't married to the other. I am a Christian but some of the people I trust most are agnostic at best. However, moral-wise they are high on the scale. Oddly enough, they also have money and little debt. On the other end I can think of a person with bad morals I know personally that has money and kept it. Religion is an odd animal. I get it and it can be bastardized into something horrible. But, in most cases I'd say it works for a common good. Regardless of which religion generally.
A big hit to the Portland film industry is the homeless camps all over the streets. Nothing against those experiencing homelessness, but it's hard to even walk on the streets anymore, much less run a business or film anything. It's a horrible situation all around.
I'm so glad she was able to discuss something that is so personal that is an expense that women don't share that we know we can't exclude Healthcare because of our reproductive organs. I've had pain that was ultimately cramps but it was sharp and random right there. unfortunately this was around the time I turned 26 so I was more focused on paying the monthly premium by working then going right away like I would when I was working part time or full time but not paying rent. it's so tough man. you can never have it all there's always a choice and a sacrifice
She reminds me of my oldest daughter. you can tell the medical news was weighting hard on her. If it helps , she seems to be doing pretty good. And just needed you to help her step up to the next level!I’m rooting for you buddy !!!
I had the same health scare and had a procedure to remove the bad cells. Have been fine for the last like 7 years! The waiting/anxiety is the hardest part. Hang in there and I hope for the best! ❤
Just an FYI. Oregon is not kicking anyone off the state insurance at the moment for making too much money. Not sure when they will, but for the time being she can stay on it.
Hi Caleb! Prayers to her! ❤ I’m a teacher in New York State and here in NY and many other states you can start teaching with a bachelors but there is a requirement to get a masters within so many years of obtaining your bachelors. In New York if you don’t obtain your masters within 5 years you actually lose your teaching certification and have to start all over. It’s very stressful and I started below $40,000 and only got a 1.5% raise when I obtained my masters degree.
Yes she needs to pay taxes quarterly! Otherwise she could owe penalties and interest. She really really needs to find a tax prep person. My experience is that most self-employed people either miss deductions or don’t report their income/expenses correctly.
As someone who used Dave to jumpstart my debt payoff journey about 5-6 years ago, from what I recall he suggests the $1000 as the Emergency Fund because it's supposed to create psychological "fear" to pay off the debt quicker so you can then move to the step where you build up the 3-6 month emergency fund. I've heard him tell people to go for 2-3k+ before depending on their situation, but it's been a long time since I've listened to him after he got a bigger ego and became heavily politicized during Covid. I used a mix of his advice early since I'm not into a lot of the religious undertones of it and I do remember his snowball method and the smaller emergency fund being designed to psychologically influence people to paying off debt faster since it creates a sense of urgency that you don't have a lot to fall back on.
I always love the contrast between your guests that don't even want to look for a single job - and people like this who do 100 different gigs with excitement! Haha
She should speak with her oncologist’s office as they will have real world experience in that area as to the pitfalls of various insurance programs available to her. Best of luck!
For insurance: I just had a visit to the emergency room this week and learned that I am able to still use my dad's insurance as a secondary - as long as your parents have insurance you can still use it while 26, it's when you turn 27 you need to have your own. I use my work's HSA plan as a secondary retirement account and have avoided going to the doctor all year due to the high out of pocket costs I expected - now I'm scheduling all visits I can before my birthday since my insurance and my dad's will both be billed before I get stuck with the remaining fees (also, if the bill is high, request an itemized bill be sent).
The Ramsey starter emergency fund is exactly what it is. It’s a STARTER emergency fund. It’s intended to make you feel what it feels like to actually save money. Since most people don’t have a dollar to their names. Also, it’s meant to MAKE you feel uncomfortable with it. It’s meant to light a fire under your butts to kick you into gear to kill your debt. Additionally, more often than not, Dave recommends a 6 month emergency fund, not a 3 month one. There are factors when deciding that, but 9/10 he recommends the 6 month. - Debt Free Dave Follower - also a Hammer Fan #CalebCrew
IMHO I don’t think it should be as cut and dry as 1,000 starter EF. Big difference between a single 21 year old renting and a 33 year old home “owner” with 2 kids.
@Caleb Hammer, I love your heart brotha. Employing ppl that don’t even realize how wonderful you are. You are saving thousands if not millions of ppls financial futures and lives
I agree that a $1000 starter emergency fund is too little. I would put it at 10% of a fully funded emergency fund. Then you don’t have to adjust for inflation. In her case, $1000 might be about right since she has multiple income streams, cheap rent and not much debt. But a family of four in LA with one breadwinner in big tech might need a $35k full fund so a $3.5k starter fund.
I hope the best for her. If it's a breast biopsy, I just wanted to add that those are extremely common procedures and most of them come back as benign. Obviously they're not something you want to ignore, so the biopsy is important. I've had one of these growths surgically removed and another biopsied, and I've had about 12 ultrasounds/mammograms/MRIs (this was all in my early to mid 20s). All benign. It's very important to stay on top of this stuff and always do the tests, but also try not to panic because most breast growths are benign.
I just hate the state of healthcare in this country and that routine preventative care finding something that needs to be addressed also becomes a financial burden beyond the stress of the actual medical reality.
Why is her renter's insurance so high?! I pay mine annually, but even monthly it would cost less than $12/month. Her paying $25/month seems really high.
I was thinking the same thing, I think it might have something to do with living in Portland? I know insurance rates depends heavily on the area you’re in (for example, I’m in Colorado and the cost of car insurance is insane because of the wacky weather). So maybe it’s a similar case with renters insurance in Portland given the stigma and civilian unrest/dissidents? Idk, that’s just my theory tho so it could be wrong.
Great episode! I'd like to say specifically with Sarah if you're in Portland and think of going to Kaiser as your medical facility, go to the financial assistance page and fill it out ASAP. Even when you have your medical procedure scheduled you can still do this. Fine needle Biopsy is usually your next step there and they can start racking up serious debt. You'd qualify for this because you're below the 300% poverty level based on the financial report. I've listed the link here. I'm a social worker based out of Vancouver, WA, if you need anything on the side I'm not too familiar with that side but I know plenty of case managers/social workers that have worked that side that can really help you get some programs that Oregon residents are pretty much entitled to. Also, Caleb is right in the sense of going to the marketplace for your insurance. You'll get a tax credit that will support the whole thing, to be honest, you'd be able to have the full amount plus spend an extra $100 to $200 to get the insurance that would have a deductible of around 3-5k. I used this awhile ago when I had no insurance and had so much medical stuff come up. about.kaiserpermanente.org/community-health/communities-we-serve/mid-atlantic-community/medical-financial-assistance-program#eligible
@@eteee9575 Yea Kaiser isn't the greatest, though I'll be honest portland doesn't have too many family-dedicated medicine facilities, I like TVC but PeaceHealth isn't too bad.
If she isn't able to help out with emails, let me know! I have some administrative assistant experience and am always looking for various side hustles to help build up my emergency fund! 😊
Wow people really just be admitting to crimes nowadays lol. In all seriousness, I feel for her, but I know she’ll pull through as long as she tries to follow Caleb’s advice. Commenting for the YT Algorithm Pt.33
She has a bit of an income issue, but not a major spending issue or a lot of debt. As long as she doesn't fall deeper in debt, which could be an issue because there isn't a lot of room in that budget. I hope that biopsy comes back negative.
I hope things go well for this beautiful girl. I see hope her health will be OK. Having a health scare can be really terrifying. I thought I would share in case someone reads this and goes through a bad health scare, that very often tumors in the breast are benign cysts, and not malignant. There are so many different types of cysts and you never hear about them, just about the bad ones. So don't think of the worst instantly, but do make sure you get it checked out. Wishing good health to her and lots of success in her future. ❤
Apply for financial assistance at the healthcare system you go to. I know in Washington non-private hospitals have to scale to 400% of the federal poverty level. They have all kinds of assistance for people especially who make just a bit too much for state insurance. It's pretty awesome!
I hope her results come back negative! Omg 😢 healthcare is crazy in America. I had surgery in September to remove these big ass fibroids from my uterus which took seven hours … I got my bill for the surgery and IF I didn’t have insurance it would have costed me $77,000 😨 unbelievable!
Yeah- to be a teacher you generally need a teaching certificate on top of your bachelor’s degree. Some people complete it DURING the undergrad years so it’s one graduation but some people don’t.
I'd only pay the minimum on the cc until one month before interest kicks in. But I'd save that money I owe towards it in the savings account. Risk free, temporary emergency fund. If she relies on her vehicle for work, an auto issue may keep her from that income.
I have kaiser through work. I pay a $20 co payment when I go. I never have large bills with them. The good and bad news is that it is all in house service. It is all under one roof, however, I had a female issue. That they decided not to escalate to the next level to examine for cancer. The offices feed into each other. I got stonewalled for trying to get past the gate keeper. My brother had colon issues. Genetically a problem on both sides of the family. They decide what tests we get or dont. I have had the dreaded wait on a biopsy. It is hard and scary. I am there with you. Caleb is smart for thinking about choices based on what is not speculating/guessing on the worst scenario. This will pass.
It's so heartbreaking to see how the financial stress makes medical issues so much worse. I'm European, had an emergency a year ago and money wasn't on my mind at all. I really hope America can get this fixed at some point.
Same, watching from Canada is painful. Listening to them talk about paying hundreds of dollars a month for insurance and forced to get a corporate job just so she literally doesn't go bankrupt due to a medical problem.
How to Become a Teacher in Oregon Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school. Completion of a TSPC-approved teacher preparation program (bachelor's or master's degree), including a student teaching practicum. License application and fee. Fingerprint background check.
If my insurance policy allowed me to write her in and pick up the bill after ins payments hit, just like I do for my daughter who is the same age, then I would do it in a heartbeat. This was very good and eye-opening to watch!
Had to Google goat yoga... This is exactly what I thought it was 😂... Also though I was thinking if this was CA not OR it would be yoga just for rich people's goats
Had my biopsy and extraction at 17. A lot of people have mentioned this but cysts and fibroadenomas are extremely common. Some appear and disappear with hormonal swings. I wish you all the luck in the world. 😊
Ok paying rent with DoorDash is a nice thought but if you’re making $790/mo doing that, that’s a ton of gas, miles on your car, and more taxes that need to be set aside. Not sure if that much DoorDash if will be worth it. I do some here and there.
80 percent of Oregon teachers start with a masters. So it is not necessary. You can do it after a couple of years teaching. Find the cheapest licensing option and get a job. Make sure it’s something you want to do.
I like her side hustles but that's gotta be stressful trying to balance monthly fix income. But Caleb is right, if she finds a full time job with Healthcare it will literally solve all or most her financial problems. And plus she can still do side hustle on the side.
Obviously her personal medical information is not our business but any update to how she's doing would be so appreciated. Thinking of your health and hoping it was good news
Just going to point out that if she's on Medicaid, there is currently a freeze on kicking people off until January (and it may be extended). Good luck.
I hope the medical stuff went well. If you have to have a hysterectomy then you definitely need to get good insurance as I had to have one and it was the price of a starter house. I live in Texas and there’s no way I would have been able to afford it… no emergency fund would have got me out of being in debt with that kind of pricing. Honestly moving out of the country and having another country pay for it might be the best option if you can’t get a job with health insurance. I had to hit a year working with a company to be able to get FMLA leave so you risk running the chance of it spreading if it’s high grade CIN cells. I feel for you ❤️ health insurance and medical in the 🇺🇸 is 💩
Seems far from a lost cause, which is far more than what can be said for some of the people who are on here. She seems really sweet, and I’m really wishing all the best for her
You will be okay with your biopsy. Caleb is correct that the doctor is just making sure it isn’t cancer. Since you are so young and probably drink caffeine, they just want to make sure.
My take on taxes. FICA taxes are a good thing that helps benefit society. Fed Income tax is questionable, it really only is there to stabilize the market and keep the U.S. Dollar valuable. State Income tax is unconstitutional, many states don't even require it.
Social security is a Ponzi scheme. The only way it way it comes close to working is if the population and economy continuously grow which is not going to happen of course.

sending all the good vibes and love to her, everything is going to be fine, she is so young and she is doing great!
You are the dave ramsy of our generation without the moralizing and boomer entitlement
And the religion.
You may not agree with it but the moral compass and to some extent the religion plays a part in where people end up. No coincidence that folks who regularly attend a religious organization and have what most would consider good morals tend to be more financially sound. Not always but it's been my observation. Would be curious to see unbiased data.
@@codystockton3799 the unbiased data shows that those without religion are more moral. So.....yeah 👍 not a joke, actually research it.
Used to watch Sarah when she did a bit of anti MLM content. Lovely to see her here! Rooting for you Sarah
I recently had a similar health scare and luckily it turned out to be nothing. Please get it checked as soon as possible for your peace of mind ❤
Did anyone else here that little chime in the background at 1:10? That was the IRS entering the chat... 😂😂
Just an FYI. Oregon is not kicking anyone off the state insurance at the moment for making too much money.
Not sure when they will, but for the time being she can stay on it.
Hi Caleb! Prayers to her! ❤
I’m a teacher in New York State and here in NY and many other states you can start teaching with a bachelors but there is a requirement to get a masters within so many years of obtaining your bachelors.
The under-the-table people are always shocked when they get audited. Pay your taxes!
So far the most reasonable person on this show by a country mile
I always love the contrast between your guests that don't even want to look for a single job - and people like this who do 100 different gigs with excitement! Haha
She should speak with her oncologist’s office as they will have real world experience in that area as to the pitfalls of various insurance programs available to her. Best of luck!
The first video where I’m feeling hopeful. She’s sharp!
Wishing her all the best.

Don't ever admit to being paid under the table. That was stupid
It could be the coverage amount she may have more than just the minimum $20,000 personal property.
@@sandra_egh That is possible I have $15,000 coverage, lowered from $20,000, and my total is $120 for a year.
Finger's crossed the biopsy comes back negative ❤

I’ve heard really bad stuff about Kaiser hospitals from a staff/nursing perspective. They treat their staff like shit
@@eteee9575 Yea Kaiser isn't the greatest, though I'll be honest portland doesn't have too many family-dedicated medicine facilities, I like TVC but PeaceHealth isn't too bad.
I hope you’re able to hire this girl. She has her crap together as much as she can! Prayers to her!
If she isn't able to help out with emails, let me know! I have some administrative assistant experience and am always looking for various side hustles to help build up my emergency fund! 😊
I’m glad she’s getting her taxes in order, owing the IRS can be so stressful.
Blessings on her - hope for nothing but the best health news❤
Amazing how a lack of law and order will have a negative impact on the community. Who would thought.
Look into the federally facilitated marketplace for federal insurance!
Praying for this sweet girl 🙏🏻
Just watched this today. I hope she is doing well!
I want like a Christmas episode like a mom or dad who over shops on Christmas
I would watch that
The slowest retail time of year is when the credit card bill comes from Christmas shopping.
Definitely don’t hear enough about this.
I hope she's doing well! She seems so sweet.
Yes, but between the voice fry and almost every sentence spoken like a question she's hard to listen to.
Saying prayers for you Sara! Going to subscribe to her channel now too. 🙏 💕
Warm hugs and prayers to you Sarah . Wishing you the very best of everything 🙏.
My biggest fear is going to financial audit and that Caleb take a picture where I make a funny face for the miniature hahahahaha.
🤣🤣
I am unmarried, but have a long term partner.
In California, I was able to get health insurance benefits as a domestic partner.
How to Become a Teacher in Oregon
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school.
Completion of a TSPC-approved teacher preparation program (bachelor's or master's degree), including a student teaching practicum.
License application and fee.
Fingerprint background check.
I don't suppose you would have someone from the UK on here? Obsessed with your videos!
You don't need a Masters to be a teacher but you do need to go through an approved program. My wife taught in OR for a couple years.
Caleb, what happened to your man on the street type videos?..
Anyways thanks 👌
Half the views :/
I think I’ve seen this girl on RUclips before! If so, She’s sweet and wish her the best!
You should one of these interviews with the entire british economy
🤣🤣🤣
Ok paying rent with DoorDash is a nice thought but if you’re making $790/mo doing that, that’s a ton of gas, miles on your car, and more taxes that need to be set aside. Not sure if that much DoorDash if will be worth it. I do some here and there.
It’s nice to see P-Town get some good representation. Thanks for this one.
So scary. Prayers for her.
Shout out for Oregon! WooT WooT!!!!!!!
Yay i love these while working
Thank you!
This was one of my favourite interviews so far 👏🏽♥️
