    I finally bought this Certina: a used, hardly-worn 2020 version without a single blemish or scratch. Superbly finished watch, absolutely stunning without being "blingy" at all. On top of that, the standard steel bracelet and clasp are very high quality. Very happy with it, this review was spot on. Having said that, the only significant downside for me is the action of the crown: seems flimsy and doesn't exactly inspire confidence, feels like it might fall off when being adjusted. The crown action on my similarly priced 2009 Raymond Weil Sports Diver is a different kettle of fish, sturdier, slicker and far superior - even after almost 14 years use.

      @SirWatchGeek  2 года назад +1

      Hello sir! Congrats on your purchase! I hadn't really noticed the crown action, but I'm very interested on what you've said. To that end, I'm going to go and compare it now to my other watches 😄.
      Thanks for your kind words, and hope you continue to enjoy your Certina 😃👍

      I got myself one too, absolutely fell I’m love with it. Only down point for me is that the bracelet clasp is different then the 43mm. The bigger case size one being a lot better in my opinion. As well as the diver extension, which in the 38mm feels extremely cheap

    Always liked the Certina DS Action Diver even more now in 38mm. I realized a few years ago that regardless of the size of my arms my wrists and joints were a major factor and having an uncomfortable monster that didn’t fit was not wrist presence. So I still have some pretty solid and good watches in my collection but their just too large lug to lug and in diameter for me.
    This Certina is beautiful and all around a solid diver with that Swatch group movement , fit & finish.
    Definitely time to unload a few beasts to grab another daily diver.

    I have the titanium version of this watch which I love. The only negative is that the micro adjust clasp slips out with the slightest amount of pressure without pushing the depressors. The teeth on the ratcheting track seem to be less pronounced when compared to the steel version. Are you able to pull out the extension manually without pushing depressors on your watch? Not sure if its just the titanium version that has this problem. Nice review, Thanks.

      It's a decent/great value watch. I have one for a year as my beater watch at work (working manual labour) now. It's been through heat, oil, steel shavings etc. and I have to say that I have no problem doing anything with this watch. Slight problem because it's going like +15s/day but nothing demagnetising and adjusting can't solve. The bracelet makes the watch with the middle links even bigger on the wrist as it's already is at 43mm, so keep that in mind if you have an average or smaller wrist. I usually wear mine on Nato strap and I can say that the watch is very top heavy if you don't wear your bracelet tight. But that doesn't mean the steel bracelet is bad - it's excellent with the divers extension and feels very sturdy and well made (but I just choose to not wear it as it makes the watch bigger than I'd like). Also, Certinas customer service is excellent. Withing a month of me buying this watch I still can't explain what happend, might've bumped the crown while not fully tihgtened or something and I demaged the threads or even the threads in the casing itself - the AD said it wasn't covered in the warranty but they can try and send it in but it would most likely get rejected. And guess what? They replaced the crown and did minor polishing on case and fully covered the costs. For me that's going above and beyond for their customer and that's why this watch isn't going to be my last watch from Certina. Also on the sidenote: The Tissot Gentleman 40mm Powermatic steel bracelet fits perfectly on this watch (both 21mm bracelets), slims it down and makes it more shiny - so I'd recommend swapping to that one if you have one laying around (downside is that it's a butterfly clasp).

    Nice review, nice watch, amazing quality filming, crystal clear. I was thinking of getting a Seiko Willard or Mas but they are too expensive and the free extra of a misaligned bezel with every Seiko doesn't appeal. This Certina is a real looker. The shape of the bezel and end links are identical. I was thinking of replacing my Citizen with the Certina, but it has the same 60 click bezel and I don't really like it. Interestingly, I have a friend who owns a micro brand, and the clasp he's going for for his next watch is IDENTICAL to that on the Certina! I mean - IDENTICAL! And that is an off-the-shelf clasp. So has the supplier 'stole' the design from Certina, or are Certina using an off-the-shelf clasp? 🤷‍♂️😄

      @@SirWatchGeek It was listed as new without tags, the seller was a model who did work for certina's branding and was allowed to keep the watch as a gift but he decided to sell it. So I guess it's used, but in new condition. No warranty but box/papers etc.

    Which one would you recommend; Seiko SPB143 or this Certina?

    • @SirWatchGeek
      @SirWatchGeek  2 года назад +1

      Hi Hafeez. Tough question! The Seiko is a little smaller, and is of a classic design, and The Certina is a lot cheaper, but you can't go wrong with either!
      I think I'd prefer the SPB239 myself if I were in the market for one 😀👍

      @@SirWatchGeek hi there sir!
      3 weeks ago I came to ask for your opinion on both said watches and I'm happy to report that I went out from the store 5 days ago or so with the Certina, just exactly like yours. And I was even more happy when I stalked on your Instagram account 😆 and found the watch is still with you!
      I'm so glad that I went this route instead of following the masses on the Seiko SPB. Handled both watches, and the Certina felt better quality plus better QC.
      For a 5 day old watch out of the store, 8.5-9 seconds loss cumulatively since the day I acquired it is quite impressive!

    Hey new sub here I’m just wondering/ opinion on this watch here ( ceda ds ) or the mido ocean star I want a everyday watch also been looking at titanium in both your thoughts ? Cheers in advance

    • @SirWatchGeek
      @SirWatchGeek  2 года назад +1

      Hi Chris - thanks very much for subbing!
      Mido or Certina - tough question! Both owned by the Swatch Group of course, and both very similarly specced. They both use ETA based movements with 80 hours of power reserve, and both similarly priced.
      Titanium versions are about 30% lighter in weight overall. Personally, I like to know I'm wearing a watch, so titanium models have never been on my radar - but that's just personal choice. As is choosing between the 2! You can't go wrong with either! If I were choosing one now, I'd be seriously looking at the Ocean Star Tribute. Looks the business in my opinion!
      I don't know if I've helped or not, but let me know what you eventually go for 😀👍

    Although it says Swiss Made is it really a Swiss movement made in China?!?!?! Burberry comes to mind.

    • @SirWatchGeek
      @SirWatchGeek  3 года назад +1

      Hi Alan.
      Swiss law states that in order for the movement to be considered ‘Swiss’, It must be assembled and inspected in Switzerland, and 60% of its manufacturing costs generated there (50% of all movement parts’ value, excluding the cost of assembly, must also be Swiss). Other elements like the case have similar provisions.
      Swiss companies that make 100% of their parts are extremely rare!
      Hope that info helps 😀👍

      @@SirWatchGeek Ok, yes but I was disappointed to see Made in China on the box a Burberry came in, also said Swiss Made on the bottom of the dial like so many of these "Swiss" brands. Didn't see it until I got home and by then I didn't have the heart or the gumption to take it back. Still have the watch and I'm ok with it but will certainly be more diligent next time. I guess they're still good watches. No wonder Rolex is so expensive. But if it is only the manufacturing that is the question, perhaps I can give these "other brands" a pass. So many good sub $1000 watches at this level.

    • @SirWatchGeek

      Burberry watches are definitely classed as Swiss Made - perhaps it’s just the box that’s made in China.
