Dear Aaron, the 90s were special. For me it was the teenage years (and you too?).
We were free. The world was uncomplicated. I watched LOTS of fantasy and science fiction shows. And then, you become an adult and the warm glow of youth, where you are happy and positive no matter what - is replaced by a colder cynical world.
Like the poison clouds and darkens everything? So, when I learned Stan Kirch committed suicide it hit me so hard. I've dealt with depression and drug addiction (2 years sober now) and there have been times when I wanted SO MUCH to end it.
So, to hear of Stan losing all hope to the point and giving in? Broke my heart.
Stan will ALWAYS be 51 now. In a weird way, he HAS become immortal.
Please to you and everyone else here: always BELIEVE no matter how tough life gets.
      Because you ARE so precious.
      David

It’s so tragic about Stan Kirsh. It’s bizarre how sad Richie’s death was in the show and his real death eerily mirrors that.

I remember when the episode featuring Richie's true death first aired... I was 17 or so, and I cried my eyes out, probably for at least half an hour because my mom heard me crying when she went to bed and she thought I meant an actual friend of mine had died when I told her that Richie was dead. She was pretty mad when I explained what was happening. When Stan passed away a couple years ago, my mom was one of the first people I spoke to after learning about it and she brought up that day from so long ago watching the show and she just gave me a hug and told me how sorry she was that he was gone. Thanks for the memories Stan. We miss you!

I was so sad when Richie had that crappy ending. I hadnt even know about Stans untimely exit until a year or so ago (dont know how that one passed me by), so that hit doubly hard Covid, my own mental health issues, physical health, it was rough. Peace out Stan, we would or could never have met but i grieved.

@Brian Babin They wanted to go for ratings and what better way to do that for a season of finale that takes a lot of one of the shows loved members. Then there's the torment and grief that Mac would have to go through the next season to deal with it. Which brings in more higher ratings. I'm glad the show brought him back for the series finale. I never knew the man in real life but I knew that he had physical problems with his neck and was in pain. I learned that he opened a school of acting. I liked his portrayal of Richie. RIP

I would agree that Stan’s laugh was unique to him. I recall when the series started I thought the Richie character would annoy me. But the humor that Stan put into him with that younger brother vibe quickly made me enjoy seeing him in episodes. When he became immortal he grew even more on me.

That is so funny because I also thought the role of Richie was going to be annoying. He turned out to really add to the chemistry of the show. One of the best memories I have of Stan is when the character of Richie disappeared for a few episodes...and then Richie came back with a motorcycle and less hair. In my opinion he left a boy and came back a man. RIP Stan, you are missed.

Yeah Stan was really cool and his character has really come along way from the pilot episode the gathering. I always liked to see Richie cuz he was always running same game on the stories especially in the first season. Stan had this charisma, vibrant character and charm to him. He always made Highlander funny with his humor and wen his character died on the show I was sad and now that Stan is gone in real life I feel like I lost an old friend and that his spark, his light, his flame went out to soon and had so much to offer and I'm sure his acting school students and his wife miss him too. This was so cool to hear. Just because actors play friends doesn't mean they even get along off set. But that bit about how Stan came to his apartment and the brother was coming I think demonstrates they could work together and chill together. Doesn't make you family or best friends. It makes things easy. And who wouldn't want to work in that environment?

The flashback sequences, specifically the ones that filled in Duncan's deep past, were some of the best television at the time. Yeah Kirsch seemed to have a boyish look and prankster energy about him. I always liked when Richie would every once in a while, sort of disagree about something with Duncan. When they were more equal, and not mentor to mentored . Oh and when Duncan overheard a quickening, and thought Richie was the one killed, then Richie walks up from the shadows, and the two have a non-verbal moment of relief, such a good moment. Can't remember which immortal Richie was fighting though.

And he was coming home from work on New Year’s Eve about one in the morning and a deer darted across the road. They said he swerved to miss the deer lost control and plowed into a tree. I thought the same thing and then Stan made the character of Richie incredibly likable.

I'd like to express my sincere sympathy for everyone in Stan's life. There is no doubt that he was a great man. And great immortal. It is a pity that he lost in a game.

I always thought you could've played Indiana Jones father (Sean Connery) as a young man or also you should have been a James Bond (which you still could do)

Seeing more and more episodes of Highlander that had Richie it just makes me think that Stan would have made a perfect Kid Flash in the original flash television show I don't know he just has that look if he had darker red hair I could definitely see him pull it off playing an actual comic book version of Kid Flash
