I want to thank you. You see my step grandson has just started being interested in wood working. He loves wood, and has even started to make plain boxes. He isn't doing too good in his math classes, (he's 8) and uses the excuse that you don't need to know anything beyond adding, subtracting, and dividing. No one uses anything else. I showed him this video, and asked him if he could make one of these for me. The look on his face was priceless! He said he didn't know how to go about figuring out the angles. I said..well guess you must learn about that huh. He just looked at me and said...I got homework to do. 😆 I believe with your help we reached this boy. Thankyou!!!!! Also, wonderful art piece. It's gorgeous.
ohhh purple heart,,,, dense stuff, hard to work with... and what ever you do, dont get a piece of it in your eye, the oil in the wood will turn your eye into the deseret thats on fire... cocobola does the same too.. but I do luv the color tho when its freshly cut. the finished item definately shows off the precision needed to create it, awesome as usual... you must have stamped the bottom of the support ;)
OMG! The time, patience, and attention to detail this must have taken to create this amazing finished piece is almost beyond words worthy of describing it. That was truly a masterpiece of craftsmanship to create that work of art. I don't think i would have even had enough patience to cut up all wedges that you used to reassemble/assemble into that, much less all the iterative steps that you had to go through before you could even begin the wood turning portion. Just WOW! You always impress, and this is certainly no exception. Thanks for sharing, and take care.
The prep is everything in this extraordinary piece, the turning itself really just the finishing touch. Superb craftsmanship, endless patience, dogged persistence, stunning outcome. For the benefit of non-Brits, "Purple Bricks" is the name of a chain of estate agents/realtors in the UK.
OMG! I just can’t begin to consider how you worked out the different angles for all the different components so they came together so perfectly in the initial set up, let alone the wonderful finish. Truly remarkable vision and craftsmanship.
there was not a moment of this video where I wasn't like "...the absolute MADMAN..." in varying tones of 😕, 🤨, 😮, 😲, 😀, and 🤩 such a treat, seeing this process from beginning to end. thank you for sharing!
I may not always care for the finished product, but I am always amazed by your talent and vision, and being able to figure out how to make your vision a reality. Thank you!
You are really hard working, Talented, Intelligent person and I guesses you are making your each things with your heart... Fully devoted to your work.. thts y it's comes out like extraordinary. Salute you.. Sirji.. God Bless You Always.
You never cease to amaze me. All those small pieces put together to make something truly unique and amazing. I don't know how you do it but i love watching you make wood art. Your truly an amazing person with incredible skills.
Quite impressive young man. Quite impressive. You make it look so easy yet we all ( Woodturners) know the contrary. Beautifully designed and accomplished. Piece of art!
This is a beautiful work of art. The time it took to make this and knowledge of wood working makes this man superior to any other wood workers, yes.💝👏🏼👀💃🏼
You never cease to amaze me! Your creative genius is sheer magic! Your painstaking attention to detail is always extraordinary. I agree with one of the comments. It does look like a portal that you can step into old London. Another brilliant masterpiece by Andy!!!
I would like for you to “show your work” on how you knew the angle in which to cut the circles, if you accounted for the thickness of the circles and if you knew what size the final circle was going to be. It’s both a beautiful and an impressive piece.
Not much math to it. The included angles of all the wedges have to add up to 360 degrees. Since you want every wedge to be identical, that means you choose a number of wedges that divides "nicely" into 360 - say, as I think Andy did, 72. 360/72 = 5 degrees angle for the wedge. The outside diameter of the torus is then very close to the the thickness of the wedge on its thicker side*72/pi. ETA: Well, a correction. I went back and looked at the video where he displays the quarter tori leaning against the wall. Looks like there are 64 wedges, not 72. So he didn't get a real "nice" angle, but rather 360/64 = 5.625 degrees. But you don't actually have to know this angle to do the work. He never set up an angle gage to the wedge angle, but rather just needed to know the difference between the outer and inner torus diameters in order to set up his bandsaw jig. That is easily calculated since the ratio of the thick thickness of the wedge to the outer diameter and the ratio of the thin thickness of the wedge to the inner diameter of the torus are the same.
Sometimes when you create these works of art I say to myself “if I keep at it maybe someday I’ll create something half as beautiful.” With this one my mind said “nope, no chance.” Amazing work!
Oh Bill! Don’t give up have faith in you abilities. The best part is you enjoying the craftsmanship and while you do beautiful creations happens. After almost 27 years I’m still having a great deal of fun and that’s what matters. Unless your goal is fame then it’s another ballgame.
Of all the donuts and circles I've watched you turn over the last couple years, this one is i think your best one yet Andy. You really nailed the brick pattern, i would think that was mind numbingly time consuming. But just look at that result ! I can only imagine the sense of accomplishment when you all done. Oh i wanted to share that I've seen another woodturner use Denatured Alcohol to neutralize hot glue. Seems you just brush it on wait about 30 minutes and it just releases with just a little pressure. No residue or anything. Seen hot glue just turn loose. Just thought i would share that with you. Thank You for another beautiful project. You never disappoint !
Whole time this was playing, I kept hearing Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall”. Don’t know if that may have been what you were going for, but that’s the image I got. Really beautiful piece, and so very detailed. I envy your patience…
Hell of a lot of skill gone into making this, I also should add, patients, it would have driven me up the wall sawing, gluing all together. Awesome talent.

I love how you alternate between solid and pieced projects.
And resin, of course. That's a LOT of lovely Purple Heart wood. It looks like an optical illusion of a brick wall. Very cool!!!
ohhh purple heart,,,, dense stuff, hard to work with... and what ever you do, dont get a piece of it in your eye, the oil in the wood will turn your eye into the deseret thats on fire... cocobola does the same too.. but I do luv the color tho when its freshly cut. the finished item definately shows off the precision needed to create it, awesome as usual... you must have stamped the bottom of the support ;)

Your work is amazing. Details, details, details.

Great combination and execution, Andy. Good luck on your shop move and spine troubles. I can empathize.
