If you like seeing large bee hives, this video will not disappoint you, and if you like seeing a queen bee being captured and caged, once again, you will not be disappointed.
This weeks bee wrangling adventure brings us to Slidell, Louisiana where we have been lots of times before, but we certainly don't encounter hives this large when we go there. Wreck it Ralph works his magic on demo as usual, and Good Time Charlie shot some very impressive video for this one.
Along with a massive hive, you would expect to see a lot of bees as well, and this theory holds true for this hive. Not only were there lots of bees, they were evenly tempered although we were all stung a few times. The biggest problem we encountered was the comb itself, it was not in slabs, and we could only pull out small pieces of it. Consequently, very little of it was used, and I wound up putting several frames of capped honey in the hive due to the fact that there was very little in the combs we removed.
I want to thank everyone for taking the time to watch and hit the thumbs up, it is greatly appreciated. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed
Jeff, I love the way you just sling those frames off to the side when you’re done with them!
Wait till you see my technique when I'm competing in the Summer Olympics on the newly formed sport of Frame Tossing. I'm aiming for the gold metal. Thanks for watching. God's peace Dana.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I’m going to be watching for that competition!!

Ultimate bee frame Frisbee. See what I did there?
My favorite part - your practicing for Olympic bee frame throw competition! I see a gold medal in your future!😆😆
I see it too, to bad you could not see the distance I was putting on the frames, almost the length of a football field. Of course form is just as important as distance when going for the gold, and as you could see, my form was flawless. Thanks for watching. God's peace Marsha.

That's what I expect from you Mr. Ed. Nothing but the best!!!!! Thanks!! You get to have all the fun!!!!

Hello 👋 Mr Ed & Charlie and Ralph 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
And good morning to you as well Terri! God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I just love this show from Brampton, Ontario Canada ❤❤❤
I am delighted to hear of your enjoyment of my channel. I have been posting videos since 2011 and have been posting them every Friday for the last 4 years. To date there are over 590 of them all waiting for you to be enjoyed. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and for leaving your comment, it is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to hearing from you very soon on more of my bee wrangling adventures. Until the next one, God's peace Tanya.

Hi Jeff. 20,000 Bees. Yikes. That was a big hive. And you got your queen. Well done. Hope all is well down there.
For the Three Amigos, 20,000 bees is just another day of wrangling.....of course, it was a very fun day! If the rain ever lets up, it's going to be great. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jeremy.
Mr. Ed
I loved when Jeff would shake then throw those plastic frames toward the end. I think he must have been quite a Frisbee thrower in the day!! 😂😃
When I attended LSU in the mid 70's, we played Frisbee Golf almost every day, and sometimes twice a day. We had both a 9 hole course and a 18 hole course. Thanks for watching. God's peace Rick.

Good time Charlie needs to take a nap. He lives up to his name. Interesting wrangle. Such a big hive with just one queen who probably wishes for a nap too. Thanks for sharing Jeff.
As I am a very big supporter of taking a nap, especially in the early afternoon, I'm sending a letter to my Senator asking if he could get a law passed making it mandatory for everyone over the age of retirement to take at least one of them a day. God's peace Joey.
Mr. Ed
After the removal I did yesterday, I had to reschedule the removal planned for today just to take more time to recover from the heat. Definitely need naps!
Hello again my friend
Another great video, certainly was an impressive hive, and a full team to remove it, what a unbeatable combination, anyway catch up again on the next one, until then stay safe my friend and may God bless and protect you and your family, Neil
This removal truly needed the combined efforts of all three members to succeed, but even with that, one of our key team mates paid the price and had to go home to take a nap. Wrangling bees is not meant for the faint of heart. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. God's peace Neil.

Hello Jeff. No wonder Charlie needed a nap after filming you and Ralph removing that sprawling hive. It was good, as always, to see the three of you working together. May those bees thrive. Thank you for sharing and see you soon. God bless.
As the oldest member of the Three Amigos, Charlie deservingly earned his nap, we were just sorry he missed out on the queen capture. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Elaine.

Hello the 3 amigos Jeff, wreck it Ralph and good time Charlie, wow what a massive hive a shame all that cone was so messed up the way they had built it , more wax for the melter Jeff no wonder we see you with so much rendered wax it sure is a godsend my friend, and Ralph again with his eagle eyes spotting the queen and those famous words from you Jeff of thank you Jesus amazing. Godbless you all for sharing your videos with us.
God's creation of the honey bee is amazing, as is the whole of His creation, but for whatever reason, the honey bee has a certain draw for me, and I see God's hand in them so clearly. All the products bees make are useful, and their presence in the world sustains our very survival. I hope more people will grow to appreciate the vital necessity of bees. For that reason, I continue showing why they need our help in saving them when they are threatened. Thank you for your blessings and for following along. God's peace brother.

How do you keep the hose from clogging with honey and nectar and the bees? Thanks Mr. Ed and crew for your videos.
The biggest way to avoid it is to take care not to vacuum it in the first place as the bees are vacuumed. Practice makes perfect. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Hey Jeff, awesome video as usual! I have a stupid question as im not a bee keeper, but fascinated by these creatures. My question is about robber bees, are these robber bees from the same colony you removed? Or are they from another colony someplace else?
Thanks and bless you & the crew
Robber bees are from a different colony somewhere in the area. Any bee can become a robber bee given the right circumstances. If a hive is left unprotected by it's guard bees, as is always the case when we do removals, other bees, robber bees, can move in and steal the honey stores. Because the hive bees will fight the robber bees, even in the bee vac, I stop vacuuming as it is pointless. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Roy.
Mr. Ed
Another well done relocation Jeff...greetings from Baltimore...such a shame the combs were so fragmented and not in long sheets for easy framing? I found that if the virgin wax combs are placed in a cool room for a few hours it firms up enough to frame up and the bees get a chance to weld it in...
Thanks Bill, and thanks for watching as well. Talk with you soon. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Holy Bees man nice catch
Thanks John man, and thanks for watching as well. God's peace brother.

I was wondering if “funny shaped comb” might have something to do with the cooling system of the construction?
I’ve seen funny shaped comb on Randy’s channel (628 Dirt Rooster) and that comb was also in the eves of a house, one of the hottest parts of a structure. Maybe keeping it cool means lots of turns. Or maybe comb melts and starts to fall and repair crews put them back wherever they can. Any thoughts?
I most assuredly agree that bees build comb so that air can circulate. Just another sure sign of God's hand in his creation. Thanks for watching. God's peace Michelle.
Mr. Ed
This is fascinating! 🐝 I’m in SC & we don’t see honeybees anymore. 😞
So often I hear about the disappearance of honey bees, it is a terrible truth. It is for that reason I do what I do, rescue bees. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 9 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.

@@JeffHorchoff I’ll “bee” watching! 👀 🐝
Why is the white new comb useless? If you put it into a frame won't the bees fill up the holes with honey and/or brood? It looks so perfect. That was one very long, large job. But you three make it look easy. God bless you.
Because the comb is covered with honey, in just a day or 2, it will have thousands of hive beetle maggots in it. At that point it really is useless. However, because I render the wax right away and strain the honey from the comb and feed it back to the bees, nothing is wasted. When the Three Amigos wrangle bees, you know we mean business. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace JJ.
Mr. Ed
Hey Jeff, another great video! That was one large colony, just wondering, does the available space determine if and or when a hive will swarm?
What determines when the hive will swarm is the amount of available space for the bees to continue to grow. Once they run out of expansion room and the hive is still growing, they will swarm. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
hi jeff another good video as usual. i have a question for you how many bees does the bee vac hold maximum
no one tells us this even your M8 The Dirt Rooster. as this particular hive seemed to be bigger than the bee vac is capable of holding
andy way thanks andy from the UK
keep up the good work and vid haha
You would be surprise just how many bees a bee vac can hold. In all the years I have vacuumed bees, only once did I need to use another box to hold all of the bees. My vac can easily hold 40,000 bees, about 8 pounds of them, with no ill effects to the bees. Of course, the heat generated by the bees needs to be dispersed as soon as possible otherwise the bees will cook themselves.Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching. God's peace Andy.

Saw the honey dripping from the comb and thought if Rooster was there, he'd have a finger in there tasting it. I've noticed I don't have the number of honey bees I'm used to seeing. In fact, none this morning. That makes me sad.
The Rooster's hands are so large, you may not have been able to see the comb, but he certainly would have put the entire section of comb into his mouth so as not to waste any of the honey. It's always disappointing when I hear about the absence of honey bees in an area, I do hope you will see an increase soon. Thanks for watching. God's peace Arlene.

Mr. Ed
man that is a huge hive. tons of bees what happens to the bees that get left behind if you dont get all of them? do they hitch up with a new hive or just die?
It is the dark side of a removal, leaving bees behind. However, some do migrate to other hives, and some do perish. Still, the vast majority of bees did make it and are thriving. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Jeff, huge fan writing from Historic Rugby in Tennessee. Might be a silly question; do you spray something into the area where you remove bees to keep bees from moving in? Does the smell of previous bees mean a larger opportunity they come back?
Thank you so much for following along with our bee wrangling adventures, we all greatly appreciate it. There is nothing produced that will permanently "cover" where bees have built a hive to prevent another swarm from moving in. Any current product that is used may have a temporary effect to discourage bees , but eventually, it's effectiveness wears off and bees can return. It's been my experience that once bees call a place their home, unless the area is completely sealed off, bees will find the spot again. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jacqueline.
Mr. Ed
Why is this guy so cool
Thank you for your kind words, we just love saving bees. Thanks for watching. God's peace Grace.
Mr. Ed
Why would bees build comb that is so messed up like that? I am also wondering about when you feed the honey comb back to the bees. When you do that, do they also use the wax that's left? Or do they just take the honey off it? Good video 👍
I can't say why the bees build their comb the way they do, it's a real mystery. When I feed bees honey, I put it in a jar and let they eat it from there, there is no wax. God's peace MD.
Mr. Ed
You forgot to say how long the job would take !! LOL. But I was also wondering how you know the bees coming to the site were robber bees, not field bees returning and confused by the empty space ?
It's easy to identify robber bees, they do not know where the entrance to the hive was. Field bees, regardless of how much of the hive has been opened will go to the original entrance. I'm going to have to say that in one of my videos. Charlie forgot to say how long the removal took because he needed to take a nap and forgot to do that. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sheila.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff thanks for responding, Mr Ed. Peace and honey to you guys ! Love the video, as always.
Jeff when you vacuum bees off honey comb how do you not inadvertently suck up a bunch of honey?
Years of experience, and yet I still manage to get bees that are honey soaked and it will clog your vacuum hose. Patience is the best method. God's peace Larry.
Mr. Ed
Why don’t you attach the flashlight to the vacuum hose? Seems like it would be easier.
I actually did that a few years ago, but the added weight to the end of the hose got my arm tired very quickly and often was poked into the comb as I was vacuuming bees. Needless to say, I discontinued the practice. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Nice wrangling. Those bees need an architect. They were building comb by committee. One says Ima lay down some wax here. Next bee says well Ima put mine here. The meandering continues. So you see what happens when there's no concensus, guidance or direction. CHAOS Thanks for sharing

On average, how do the cut outs fare vs other bee hives that you have?
As long as the removal was done during a nectar flow, they almost always make it. However, unless I feed the bees on removals during a derth, not so good. Consequently, I don't do many removals during a derth. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Does St Joseph Woodworks sell those bee vacs?
No they do not, I used all their equipment to build it so I put the sign on the bee vac. The link below is the video I made showing how to build one. Thanks for watching. God's peace Steve. Mr. Ed

Do you guys come up with your own nicknames or are they bestowed on men from the south when they reach a certain age?
I am the one who bee stows the nicknames to all our team members. Once the name has been given, they become a member of the inner sanctum of bee wranglers. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Were the bees "addled" by a pesticide or chemical of some sort, that their hive was "weird"...?
355 Comment - Sounds like.... Bee Hive Hive 🐝 Let's all watch, the bee waggle dance jive - with Mr. Ed!
When you say the comb is bad and not useful. Can you explain what you mean so I will know what to look for in the comb if I run across a removal. Thanks
If the comb is covered with honey, it can not be used in the new box, hive beetle maggots will emerge in just a day or two. However, the wax, after being rendered, and honey are useful and they are saved. Thanks for watching. God's peace Michael.
