My Dad’s family was English and he loved his classic English sports cars and Harris Tweed flat caps. On his last birthday I bought him a new cap for riding in his final car project. He looked handsome to the very end. That cap is the thing I keep to remember him by❤️
Every flat cap looks badass
@Re - Animated
Eeeerrrmm.....Yes they do! Depends on your definition, I suppose.
Just started wearing this style, I love it because no one else is wearing them around my neck of the woods. Thanks for the video
I’m from Northern England...where the flatcap originated from. A very long time ago it used to be the law that you had to wear one outside the home and you’d be fined if you were caught not wearing one. It was all about boosting the wool industry.
Did you have to own whippets too?
@Scotty Killedme Don't you go disrespecting her Majesty. The government on the other hand...
@Rollo Larson what the hell is wrong with you?
@@redhedkev1 Yes at least 10.

My first flat cap arrived in the mail today. I love it and look forward to wearing it outside.
Added flatcaps a couple of years ago to my baseball style caps, Fedora coming next. Your hat can define your style, mood and outlook and is one of the most under rated pieces of gentlemen's attire for creating the overall look and feel of an outfit.

The Hard Eye is my favorite. Great video!
Living in England, in the Yorkshire countryside, all of these are pretty much our native hats. Everyone outside Yorkshire calls us farmers if we're caught wearing one....pffft what do they know.
Jonny Longdick
Welcome to the family m'laddo
Used to live in York and whenever I wore a flatcap I got compliments on the streets. I miss those days.
Same in Ireland
not here in the netherlands the most of the time you will get laughed at....still gonna where it tho
Paperclown had to get political didn't you lol
I just tried on a cheap ivy hat at Wal-Mart and I really liked how it looked on me! I'd wanted to get a regular modern cap but it just didn't look right on me and it didn't feel like I was trying to be myself. but when I put on that ivy cap at Wal-Mart I was stunned at how good I felt about how I looked! I feel like I can respect myself more and I definitely want to start clothes shopping a little bit more! my wardrobe is way past it's expiration date lol... thanks for the vid! helped tons!
Broner has the best value/look
This reminds me of my grandfather so much.
+Snowfall Thecat The caps seem rather low, are they actually on his forehead, or do they stop wear hat meets hair and just cover the forehead?
These hats in the US where recently at a peak of popularity during the 80s and 90s. Known mostly by the brand Kangol. I own three myself that I purchased 15 years ago. I am anxious to try out these different brands

Boston scally is a good brand
Greatest hat shop on the planet! The store I visit often - King Street in Charleston, SC! Amazing product and exemplary customer care and service!
I’ve owned a Goorin Bros flat cap for 6 years. It’s seen many miles of cruising Anchorage Ak and Panama City Fl on my skateboard. I’ve worn it out fishing, in theaters and to my friends houses for board game nights. So much that one of their daughters is obsessed with it. Tonight I found the brim broken. The silver lining is that I’m actually in Las Vegas, which is the only city that I’ve been in that actually has a Goorin Bros shop.
I am a 52 year old American woman from Boston. I have been wearing "Scally" caps, as we call them, since I was about 7 or 8. I love them so much! My mother hates them on me because she thinks they are too masculine. Phttttt! I couldn't care less. About a year ago I happened upon a lovely scally made in Ireland and it's my absolute favorite. I don't get to wear it much as I now live in Florida and it's too hot here to wear a wool cap. I would love to acquire a lightweight, summer friendly cap I could wear here!
Been wearing flat caps since 1974; very comfortable, stylish, and Thank You for a very informative video!
In Italy all of these caps go by the name of "coppole" (singular "coppola"), from a Southern Italian word that literally means "head". It seems that this cap was first introduced to Italy by English people in the 19th or early 20th century but it soon became a staple of the typical Sicilian clothing style. Today it's not as common as it used to be, you usually see it sported by old people (not only in Sicily but in the whole country) but as of late flat caps are having a sort of revival here too. The Italian coppola usual comes in a plain flat pattern, sometimes featuring a snap brim, but some other patterns are slowly taking hold in the past few years.
+Steno Fusco That's good to know, when I visit Europe, I'll wear a flat cap instead of a baseball cap so that I won't look like a tourist.
+stan smith Good choice, flat caps are very traditional here and I personally think they're classy but still informal at the same time (differently from fedoras, for instance), so that you can wear one in different situations. Plus they come in a variety of patterns so you have plenty to choose from.
+stan smith ha.
+Steno Fusco I wear flat caps although they're an old man's hat...which I'm not.

I live in lndia. I started losing my hair in early 20s. I used to worry a lot. I tried many things but finally l found a solution in flat caps. Now many years have gone by since l have been wearing these caps everyday. In winters l wear tweed caps & in summers l use cotton or corduroy ones.
1st and 2nd to last are my favorites
Interesting video. Nice to get the differences explained.
The Winnie style is the only hat I’ve ever confidently worn. With the exception of beanies during the cold season, it’s the only type of cap for me.
I have a Soft Cloth, Grey Winnie, and I like to wear it year round, really anytime I leave the House I have it on. I Really Love It.
My favourite flat cap is a Christies of London "RADNOR". I bought it in 1975 when visiting Edinburgh. It's falling apart now but I am loath to throw it out after all this time. I have other caps for occasions when I need to be better dressed!
My first flat cap (newsboy cap) I got was for my kilts. Another one was my grandfathers. Love that one.
They look great on you, the question is if it will do the same for me
I have a black hard-eye (low profile ivy) and I absolutely love it
today I have my 30years b-day. After reflecting I will go with the Tony diamonti, it was such a treat to watch
Options clear. Thanks.
Great selection. Great for us living in the Yorkshire dales.
I think my ivy cap is a hard eye. It has for 4 panels at the back and right angles at the side from where the line curves around the stitched brim and joins up with the back panels. It's 50% wool and 50% polyester and black in color. Perfect size and shape for me, fell in love with it haha
I live in France, and it is hard to find a good hand made producer.
But the few ones here excels on the taylormade fabrication. In Paris you can find the masters of couture on these products.
that was great! I wish there was a shop like this around my area
Just google Hanna hats or Shandon hats . Either one .
Straight lines and organic cotton… OOOOF. 🙏🏼🙌🏼 need 🧡
AND WOOL? I love wool. The hat with the ear caps is genius 🥹
Eight-quarter cap, your "Gatsby", my favorite. Also the most notable trademark of 1920's juvenile delinquents.
Soo two caps?
Great video, caps, models, photos, narration and even the music; Great job people!!
Interesting video. I grew up in England, though it's been a few years. I remember this style. I usually wear baseball caps, but I like these. They are a little more mature and stylish. I put off getting one because I don't want to look like a hipster. But I am forty-eight now... think I can pull it off without irony.
@Danny M you are right. I actually picked up a really nice looking wool cap from Hanna Hats. It looks great.
Love wearing the Melton Gatsby. Cool video, never knew there was such a variety. We don't have much of a choice in RSA.
Good presentation of a great cap that is tied historically with my Northern England roots, but finding a decent stockist in in my temporary abode - Vienna, Austria? ...That will be challenging!
Thank you. Point of interest. The very light colors show the details better on camera.
I have 6 flat caps now of different styles. It is a refreshing change for me, most everyone here in New England wear baseball caps.
Great tutorial!!!
What beautiful caps!! I love the one that drops down the flat warmers for cold weather protection. Handsome cap!!! I'm sorry I can't use that in the tropical area where I live. I just purchased the Kangol 507. Great cap!!
3:49 the cap on the left. That is exactly one that I am looking for.
‘City Sport’ made in Belgium. It’s an understated classic. That’s the one you’re looking for.
The low profile with the flaps is the best
Awesome! Very helpful. Thank you man!
love flat caps like the ivy
Then after this you have to pick your favorite Craft Beer.
Or burbon
And after that pick wether you want to be the pitcher or catcher.
@@buckbundy8642 ha ha so good!
Buck Bundy , you’re just stupid. That’s all. Wait, that’s not all. Since farmers hats get you thinking on sex, did you pick the name Buck because that’s what you do when ridden or that’s how much you charge when you’re ridden?
🤣🤣🤣🤣dam hipsters
My 4th-grade teacher once made me wear a dunce cap and I haven't worn a hat since. I guess I should just get over it. Sigh - let it go Outback - let it go!
🤣🤣🤣 yeah man it's long over due. Let it go
Deep breath bro. Maybe you can get one of these flat hats, just to stick it to your fourth grade teacher - and to look extra dapper as your soul heals. All the best!
I have, a not so low profile Ivy'like cap, for a more summer setting. But in the cold climate, where I live, I will need the 'Hard Eye -Low profile Iv'y. Alway great to be inspirited👌🏼 A big Thanks from Denmark 😊🇩🇰👍🏼
Ear-warmer flaps.... Love it!
Iam wetting this video from 15 year thank you man .. from sudan
VERY well made video! Love it! I learned a lot. I love hats and own several but I'm still learning. Seems there's always more to learn. Thanks again for the great video.
I wear a six panel most of the time. Wool for cold and linen for cool to hot weather...
A definite plus with flat caps is you can wear them in the car and not crush them against the headliner.
Finally, I can call my hat by its proper name!
The best thing about these caps is that they fit in your pocket!
Thank you for the valuable information about the flathats.
I like the "Low profile Ivy"
I did not know that you existed in SD. I have been getting mine from weavers of Ireland. I should drop by someday.
Bought me a green flat cap at Blarney Castle. I didn't rightly know what style mine was until I found this video(it's the winnie). I've been needing more colors.
Terrific hats & a dapper hairstyle. Think I'll change my own style around a bit. I've been inspired.
I had no idea there were so many differences available beyond material. Very informative video.
By far my favourite kind of hat. They are perfect for pretty much any situation bar rain haha.
Looks like the one I have would be a Low Profile Ivy.
You dudes make some smart hats I love baker boy and newsboy hats
Great videos for people like myself an amateur in this cap field. Thanks
SAN DIEGO, WOW!!
Thanks for the video
I have always found these caps shockingly working class.
Read the History behind this cap and will realize it's the opposite: rich people wear and after spread to "working personnel". But the vintage aura and beautiness fall any prejudice. I wear daily (I started wear it at 30-33 years old), but if I had the chance to meet the cap earlier, I would wear earlier too. Note: the caps are differente in style. See Keith Lo Bue and Cordova store in Etsy to have an idea. Unfortunatelly the flat cap had a fall and neither deserve the end nor the final fame.

CLASS IS IT. FLAT CAPS ARE HUNDREDS OF YEARS IN THE MAKING OF AND HERE IN CENTURY 21 NEVER WENT OUT OF STYLE. see old movies from the early 20th century very popular see a movie today wow there they are even in the cop show blue bloods.
Pedro Von Worzelburger I can't think of a better response so celebrating this one again.... lolololol
That shows your ignorance!
Thanks man. Appreciate the help.
I noticed that your website shows xxl sizes. Well done! Very hard to find quality caps in my size!
I know how you feel, the same happened to me until I found out about Maidana. That is a hat shop here in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Got my first one from them, it´s a Gatsby cap
I love flatcaps. I am seeing a possibility for a new start here.
Kudos for the Vid. For those of us who do not conform to some people's ideas of fashion, and walk proudly to our own drum, the Video is a great treasure trove of the differences between hats. As one who has a vast collection of styles that continue to multiply each year, and as my son loves Flat Caps..guess it's an Irish thing... We'd prefer to create our style of dress, not what others say is the in thing, nor falling in line for the sake of haters. Or perhaps not haters, just people who's idea of what people should wear because either they can't pull off the look, or think beanies and baseball caps are an exceptional statement or maybe they are just so happy in their negativity they feel they must try to knock others down. One would think if you're really wanted to complain about fashion you'd choose something truly horrific, like pants with writing across the arse, pants hanging half or 3/4 off said arse, skirts that barely cover the arse, super tight and very micro dresses, pants, etc., moms dressing in clothes from their daughters closet, or men with pants that emphasizes the crack of their arse, parents dressing their grade school daughters in things that would be more in line with Barflies.
+Grumpy Celt Here, do you know whether the front of the hats are touching his forehead (like literally on his forehead)?
I rock a duckbill when performing on stage. My wife loves it lol
I like the last one
+OhMahDayum The caps seem rather low, are they actually on his forehead, or do they stop wear hat meets hair and just cover the forehead?
So many options!! Thank you!! Great Video!!
Love em all
Love it so much.
Would you recommend a flat cap for a larger man with a round face?
I wear the Nico Zanetti. Not a bad cap but it doesn't help to keep warm in the winter months.
G00D Evening from Auckland, New Zealand it’s Monday, December 30, 2019.
and???
I like the flat caps getting one soon only 100% wool from weavers of Ireland, no one knows hats better than the Irish and Scottish.
Very cool...thanks!
Ivy caps are so classic. Such timeless style.
Squee
OUTSTANDING !
These are the finest looking caps I've ever seen. Absolutely beautiful. I'll be in touch.
i have several 8 panel Gatsby, I saw a photo of my father in the 30s him and his brother were wearing these hats.
Love flat caps need more Kangol 504
These hats look great on chicks!
Getting one tomorrow. So far I’m interested in the Winnie and Three Panel Ivy
these hats are great. Wore baseball cap most of my life found a ivy cap i guess its what its called? On a windy day about 15 to 20mph the hat stuck on my head, i couldn't believe it. Reminds me of old time irish gangsters and a girl i dated said reminds her of grand dad but eh.... nice hats.
Irish gangsters?
Beleive me the only old time group that can be called anything like gangsters here are the IRA, and they were terrorists.
Wish you shipped to the UK not going through all the rigmarole of registration with a shipping company..I'll look elsewhere...great hats BTW!
Sussextweed.co.uk
Great vid!
I have a Lock and Co Baker boy hat in goatskin.
just bought my first flat cap, 6 panel duck bill, next one will be goorin bros gatsby!!!!
This is my new favorite video.
Great video, the only thing I have to giggle at is imagining needing the ear flaps in San Diego 😅 I'm a transplant from the Seattle area and I've yet to feel cold enough to even wear much more than s sweatshirt!
Loved all of the info though. Maybe someday when I get back home I'll get an earflap one
LOVE the hat @ 5:57
Nice video!
I love the Gatsby or newsboy style.
I have a wool one without the snap button... which is sub classified as a spitfire AFAIK.
I know they’re not technically flat caps but I am also really digging the fiddler caps. I have a couple of Brixton ones.
This is highly critical information for a discerning flat capped Camden Dandy pirate hipster.
Flat caps very useful especially here in the UK with the weather we get. Been wearing them for years.Watch the TV programme Peaky Blinders for some great head gear.
They’re also popular in Italy
I had no idea that there were so many different styles. I’ll have to look at mine to see what I’ve been wearing all these years!
I’d take one of these over a baseball cap anyday
I recently bought a handmade leather newsboy cap and in the last 4 months of wearing the cap I have had three different people tell me I look like a bad ass and one person told me I look like a tough guy …..which thoroughly baffles me.
Nice thank you.
