Hyundai Sonata SEL Driver Assist Demonstration

- I wanted to make this video to show how the Hyundai Sonata driver assist functions perform in local traffic scenarios.
TLDR : sometimes it's great and other times it's not. Well-marked lanes with slow curves perform very well. Any kind of turn where the lane markers are faded or the turn requires a little bit of effort and the Sonata just gives up.
Other notes : Lane Keeping Assist is turned off during this drive. The two features used are Smart Cruise Control (the first two button pushes) and Lane Follow Assist (the steering wheel). In case I forgot to mention it during the video, this is the 2020 Sonata SEL.
Please forgive camera placement, the narration and the smart cruise could have been set up better on the dash - this is my first time making a RUclips video.
The Lane Follow Assist (LFA) combined with adaptive cruise control makes long distance freeway trips totally relaxing.
I just bought a '21 Sonata SEL a month ago. This car has so many advanced features it leaves me in awe.
And it gets 40mpg at 70mph.
The nice thing about having the limited and the headsup display, I never have to take my eyes off the road and I can still tell if the steering is on or off. Also shows my if someone is in my blindspot. For the money it is absolutely amazing!!! I love all of the safety features especially since I'm not a great driver.
You right on point.Dope features on the limited.
woman moment
Also one of my favorites. When I’m on the highway I honestly don’t use my mirrors oops but when you have a camera in front of your face there’s no need. Obviously not when merging or high traffic. It’s very nice
You have definitely caused a accident before
My Sonata Hybrid Limited is probably the best car I have ever owned (since 1951!). In windy, level, Corpus Christi I am getting around 42-43 mpg. I love it.
I watched this last night not realizing this is right by my house. Hello from Crown Point!
Your point about coming to a stopped traffic is why I looked up for this video. It works well in every other situation but that. I always end up stepping on the break myself
You might want to set your following distance. That will definitely help with slowing the car down into the stop.
Hyundai's lane following is impressive. Not many competitor systems can do it from a dead stop or without a car in front.
I rented a sonata and I noticed it was driving by itself basically. I'm buying one end of the year❤
Since I live in Schererville and am strongly considering this car, this video was absolutely perfect thanks!
Thanks, watched this before I purchased my 2021 Sonata, I was able to use the self driving features on the way home from the deal and knew what watch out for.
when I rented the Elentra, I noticed how well it tracked the lane. It was much better than the 2018 version sonata. I did hear alarm when it lost lane. You many have to change a setting.
I will say one thing this is more of their base Lane keep and navigation follow if you get the tech package in the SEL plus or the limited they have actual active highway assist and it’s much better than on the lower cars
So the lines on the streets are not even visible to my eyes how do you expect the car to see them??
😅 you are on point my friend
I love my new 2021 SEL plus! I didn't know it did this. I knew the lane assist part
Some of the features you're using are not meant for city traffic.
That’s why it’s so awesome . Tesla like
At the end when you were trying to have the car drive itself around curves the road was tar patched. I couldn't see any yelllow painted lines
i believe the lane assist turns off automatically if it detects the driver not touching the wheel
not audible sound is a safety issue. There should be a clear hand off between vehicle and driver control
i heartily agree
Why does the blindspot camera not show on your speedometer like other Limited sonatas?
The one in the video is not a limited, you can tell by the smaller infotainment display.
How about high way? Do you have another video?
Does anyone know how to turn off the setting that lowers your music when reversing?
When I leased my 2022 sonata I was not told about these assist features. The service or sales people are not taught how it works. Basically it is not quite self driving but it assists you.
How are you? How much did you lease for? I am getting mine tmmw! (SEL 2022) - I was also not told about these features as well, lol
@@kaysup2350 I put $4000 down and I pay $255 per month. Best car ever and I love CarPlay.
@@chairde I am putting 1k down and will be paying $340 a month. Going to grab it tomorrow. Never ever was a Hyundai guy but man, I'm excited. Are you on a 10/36 lease?
@@kaysup2350 yes I am. I wish you well.
@@chairde Hey I got my car. SEL Convenience Package and I just realized the car doesn't have any sound indicators like when reversing into a parking lot. Or if a car is to my right? Is there a way to manually turn this on?
so what is the differnce between lane follow assist and lane keep assist
Awesome video!! Thanks for posting!
Does anyone know how to turn off the “two hands on the wheel assist?” 2022 SEL with conv package. Thanks!
Nice demonstration. Does your car have HDA feature?
Great Video! aAny experience with pedestrian/ animal detection?
I love this car
I for sure cannot see that its windy from inside rhat car
Nice video. Im right down from you in Steger
Gotta try commaAI. It will change your life, especially if you drive a lot.
Holy sh*t you’re going to kill someone driving like this. It’s not supposed to be treated like an autonomous vehicle
I have the se and I just found this feature I didn’t have it on cruise I just pressed it and it started what I did was I press the steering and the stay in your line button and it was driving by its self lol
Thank you so much for making this vid
I have been thinking the driver assist. -- made me wreck. Just my thoughts tho.
my mind is blown.
Excellent Video!
Is this the SEL Plus or regular
For the Name Butchers: Its a "U-nda-e", not a "Hond-A".
Hyundai like Sunday is what Hyundai employees in videos say.
Thought less of a bumpy area next time. I'm getting motion sick 😅
don't give it control when you pass traffic light it will good bad and try to switch your line

This car is dangerous
Lol
I have the 2021 Elantra . Mine does it too . So far I’m still alive ;)
It's actually safer than a standard car with no safety features. But it seems a little nerve-racking until you get used to your car doing things you didn't input.
Are u kidding me? Why do you say that ?
It's really not dangerous unless, like this video, you try to treat it like a self-driving car. For example the the driver complains that the car stops automatically to close to the car in front. The car is stopping automatically to avoid a collision, not to save the driver the trouble of paying attention and applying the brakes at the proper time.
Same with steering - at one point the driver says, "The steering is not functioning, so I am steering." - ridiculous.
You should get openpilot, it works very well for this.
