She's not wrong, the top layer of the skin flakes off and a new layer is created under it constantly

No it's because of the fat, the sebum of your skin. This shit is like acid once it's oxidized, it is the nightmare of Museum Conservators. xd

Yeah I’ve had one of these before, no matter how much you sanitize the wrist rest and your own hands and wrists it’ll accumulate dust and get smudged in by your wrist. If it was a hard material like a keyboard or mouse it would be different but the dust gets trapped in the fabric from friction and pressure + use

It’s almost like skin produces oils (and getting rid of them is bad for your skin)

Unless she's farming it sounds like she has stress induced OCD, and the interesting thing about OCD is that it only happens due to a combination of perfectionism which is usually created by anxiety, and your memory functions automatically blocking out the memory of if you've done an activity "correctly" or not, because most of the time OCD concerns menial or irrelevant activities that our brain tends to push to the side and turn off our perception of. So it becomes a feedback loop where you can't remember if you did something correctly because the thing you were doing is low importance, so you try to do it again, only to forget again and switch-off mid-activity again, which just builds your anxiety, and so on and so forth.
But she's probably farming so it's ok.
