    I have a 3 month old Samoyed that's on a raw diet and I've never once had any issues with diarrhea. I noticed your pup has those red tear stains and I saw on reddit that it could be something in his diet that causes it. My sammy pup doesn't have any tear stains at all. Something that could also help with Olaf's diarrhea is giving him some probiotics. I give my pup plain kefit and plain greek yogurt for probiotics. I actually freeze the greek yogurt into puppy paw molds and put some blueberries in it for antioxidants and my pup loves them!

    Oh my goodness, had I known the amount of work required to raise one of these little polar bears…….. our Sammy is 5 months old like yours. It’s our first dog. I know your pain! We’ve only had her for 3 months but those 3 months felt like 3 years. What did I do with all my time before I got this dog?! Best of luck with Olaf. What a handsome boy.

      Yep! Those first few months definitely feel like an eternity, but we've been pretty lucky with Olaf. We've heard a lot of crazy Samoyed stories, so it's actually quite amazing how good Olaf is in comparison. He definitely has his off days, but he picks up information pretty quickly and is a good boy, overall.

    Thanks for sharing! Sounds all very similar to our 17 weeks old Samoyed :-) Even the issue with diarrhea! Hope it gets better with time!

      Didn't think Olaf's stomach would be so sensitive. Our cat, Theo, started eating raw food at a pretty early age and didn't experience much difficulty. Maybe when Olaf is about a year old he'll start to better digest food. We're glad we weren't the only ones going through this sort of issue, though.

    I'd recommend videos from Freya the floof, they have monthly pupdates and did really well when it comes to training. Maybe you find something about this helpful.

      I hear a lot of puppies like to bite the ankles, but having a toy nearby to distract your dog could come in handy when he starts biting. If he's biting your hand, I would just be sure to not let him think your hands/fingers are toys. A lot of people seem to wiggle their fingers in front of animals. Another trick to stop your dog from biting is to put something gross tasting on your hands, such as citrus or anything sour or bitter. You want to make the biting experience unpleasant for your dog so it remembers next time that your hand tasted awful.

    So crazy that your experience has been really similar to mine! Olaf is actually just about a week older then my puppy, Ryker. And his weight is 35pounds now and I think he’ll be around 37pounds at 21 weeks! We gave him the sensitive skin and stomach kibbles, i think it helps with the stool. Plan to switch to raw diet when he’s older tho! Looking forward to your updates on Olaf and learn some stuff from you.

      Glad to hear Ryker is feeling a lot better! Olaf has been on a plain chicken and rice diet, which seems to be helping a lot. We hope Olaf can go on a raw diet when he's older, but only time will tell. Thanks for letting us know your update. 🐾

    My MeiLi also has digestive problems. We find carrots make her stool soft. As does chicken. I think she may have a food allergy to chicken. She does well with pork and beef though. I also give her freeze-dried treats from Pupford (beef and sweet potatoes) mainly because they have basically one ingredient. I do not give her treats that have many ingredients anymore and that has also helped her tummy issues. The max I will allow is three. We also found she had bacteria growth and giardia (you won't find that with a regular fecal test). She got better once she was on medicine for that. We clean up the poop right away after she goes and try to clean her paws every time she comes back inside and her bum too to try and prevent it from re-infecting her or our other dog. She barks a lot - mostly when she wants attention or food. She also whines in the car. LOL. After a few minutes she usually settles down. I have one of those hammocks in the backseat. Works great. I have one that I rigged sideways to give my other pooch some protection from her while riding in the car so he isn't trapped by the teething baby. They play a lot and he is very patient with her, but she does not know when to stop once he is tired. :) She actually sleeps with me and not in a crate, and she sleeps all night. I actually wake her up and make her go pee pee when I wake up to go. LOL. The only issue I have with her and sleep is she likes to get up very early (like 5-5:30 am sometimes) and she is ready to go. She naps at 7-8 pm. It is hard to make her stay awake but when I do she will usually "sleep in" until 6-7 am. I keep my house at like 61 degrees. And I have my bedroom fan on when we sleep. So she is pretty comfy most of the time unless she's running or playing a lot.

      MeiLi sounds a lot like Olaf. We've been giving Olaf a basic meal with chicken and rice. He seems to be doing really well with that. His poop is much better. We had a filtered water fountain outside and I think that was easily getting dirty. Not sure if that was contributing to his diarrhea, so we brought it inside the house and, so far, no diarrhea. When it comes to sleep, Olaf sleeps through the night pretty well. He wakes up around 6am to let us know he needs to go potty or change his ice pack. He doesn't seem to bark anymore, except at dogs and people when we take him for walks. Overall, he's doing a lot better and he'll get better in time. Your MeiLi sounds like a great dog, though. Puppies can be such a handful.

    Have you tried giving him cottage cheese? Our breeder recommended us doing that if our little boy got diarrhea ☺️

      That's interesting! No, we haven't tried it yet. Right now, Olaf is on a plain chicken and rice diet, which seems to be really helping a lot. His poop is getting much better. Have you had a chance to use the cottage cheese method on your little guy?

    We had issues with our dog having Diarrhea and we switched her kibble up to something that included pumpkin and we noticed a huge difference. Hows the leash training going? Ours is coming up to 5 months now and were great with sidewalk environment but once we hit a hiking trail shes obsessed with every object she sees regardless of the treats we have on hand🤣

    • @theoandolaf
      @theoandolaf  2 года назад

      We give Olaf (and Theo) pumpkin with all of his meals as well and it seems to be helping. Walking on a leash is getting a little bit better. He still barks at other passing dogs, but not so much with people anymore. Olaf seems to be a bit more relaxed in general, but he still has his little moments. We can't wait to take Olaf out on a trail!

    What is the ice pack you are using? Our little girl seems hot a lot but I haven't figured out a cooling system for the night that is safe besides fans. He's so cute!

    • @theoandolaf
      @theoandolaf  2 года назад +1

      Hi, Jayci! We use the large Igloo ice packs that you can find at any Target. They're blue rectangles. We keep 4 frozen and give him a couple throughout the day and at night when it's time to sleep. Olaf loves putting his face on top of the ice pack and cuddling up close to it. We also use a cooling pad by the company Halo. I got it at Marshall's and Olaf loves it because it's pressure activated and it stays cool all day.

    What ice packs were you guys using in previous videos? My pup needs some but I’m unsure which to buy!

    • @theoandolaf
      @theoandolaf  2 года назад +1

      Hi Elizabeth! We've been using ice packs by the brand Igloo from Target. We have about 4 of them. They're great to have, but be sure to not let your dog chew on the ice packs as they can puncture through the plastic and cause leaks. For us, in order to prevent Olaf from chewing on the packs, we sprayed it with some citrus anti-chewing spray that you can buy at any pet store. That seems to work, but other than that, Olaf loves having the ice packs. It's always good to have multiple packs as backup for when the others reach room temperature.
