That "Foreshadowing a future video" text got me excited in more ways than one. I am a part of a 6-man podcast team that goes online but also we do podcasts on location covering pop-culture conventions and I am contemplating on getting the L8 and your video just made me contemplate on getting the H8 instead because of the portability. Great review, as always. 🔥
Yes, very clear no distortion. Very versatile kit. I only use it for audio on my short films/documentary/foley etc. I once recorded a school project using H8 and H5 together..12 mics!! Worked fine mixed in logic.
@3:40 Where's the promised review of the VRH-8? I have the H8, and I was looking at getting the VRH-8 or the H3-VR (the H3-VR is stand-alone; the VRH-8 attaches to the H8. Otherwise they look the same.) Even though I have the H8, I see almost no advantage to the VRH-8. The H3-VR is much more flexible in terms of mounting. And the market seems to agree as it is difficult to find the VRH-8.
I'm a subway busker. Right now I have a Zoom H6. But it looks like one of the XLR inputs is starting to get sketchy. I've have it a while now and it's seen some serious miles. So, I'm thinking about replacing it. The 1 thing I don't like about the new version of the H6 is you can't pan in that monitor mix. I need to pan those channels to send them out to my PA, panning lets me send vocals to 1 channel, guitar to another, just use a Y cable. I think you can pan in this mixer can't you ? And is this until really that much daintier than the H6 ?
It's most likely a limit of the processing power (computer) in the H8 so I doubt they could do that or else they would have done it before they even released it
I own the H8 but I'm going to upgrade to the f8 as soon as I can, the h8 has a weird form factor, doesn't have pfl/solo buttons and also has a weird folder structure when recording.
Got H8 for years - today I learned I can attach the cap to the back... I always thought it is for some strap/belt thing. Personally I wouldn't even consider getting those capsules over regular microphones.
I’m looking for a device that is both a fairly high quality field recorder and also a workable portastudio for recording multiple tracks from my synths and guitars. I’m looking at this and Tascam X8 now. Multi channel playback while recording is obviously a requirement. Effects like compressor and reverb would be a nice bonus. I think that this wierd guy ticks those boxes?
Another great video! This looks insane and a worthy upgrade for many forms of users such as podcasters, musicians, etc. Keep up the great work its good to see you grow and progress towards a point you've deserved for a long time. 😊
If yo haven't jumped yet. If you wish do so. I'll give you this. The H8 sounds 3 times more studio gear then the 6. Or it seems to. Aden borrow an NT1 if you can and please do a second vid with the NT1. This will answer the pro question once and for all. That's incase he sees this comment.
Understood. Just saying that there is that 1 advantage if anything. As for the H8's size it's just fatter. But really it's not much bigger then the 6.@@seanwebb605
Great video, love the H8. I use it for audio for my documentary and short films. Also as an interface for my song recordings into Logic. The shape of it I don't mind. I only use the field section as I'm not into podcasting and I use Logic as my daw. Recorded a classical gig recently Piano and two sopranos , no problems at all using condenser mics x 4. The xy capsule was on as well just to pick up room ambience. Highly recommend it. no need for 32bit float with proper gain staging.
Bruh totally get an F6. That's the 1 I actualy wanted. Because of the sound. Check out that Holly wood sound goes indi vid seriously. I was like bro is this a freegin sound Devices? That's how good those F recorders sound. Again like bruh Zoom. Ya all missed a step with the new F8N Pro. They should have giveen it the H8's snap off connector. How cool wuld at be? Bam with the EX H8 full 7.1.4 192 KHZ 32 bitfloat Dolby Atmos. Can you tell yet I'm an Atmos nurd?@@DarkCornerStudios
Yes, I have taken line level (xlr) from sound desk at concert no problems. Also I digitise some vinyl from rec out on stereo amp to 3.5 jack on capsule. works great but the signal is hot so gain on H8 is usually around 2
I’ve owned the H8 and Tascam x8. I actually prefer the x8. Call me crazy but zoom got it right with this one. Do you need 32bit float? No. Is it helpful yes. But if you clip the sound before it get to the x8 your out of luck.
I’m comparing these two. Can you playback previously recorded channels while recording? I want a device that can both work as a field recorder and a portastudio for music making.
Yeah USB micro for the H8. Now to make things worse make sure you get the 1 with the right little teeth. But cool recorder. With the EX H8 hooked up yeah it's not handy no more but dude 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos into 1 machine. Dude even ooked to a Laptop. Just rout the 10 channals in your DAW in surround and Bam. Dolby Atmos. You yes can use the 360 capsle but you have to get the converter software from the page for the H3 VR. The Player software that helps you convert the A format 360 audio even to 5.1 surround. Of my 2 the 1 I'm most hesitent to give up ironically is the H8. Cause I was thinking of celling off the 2018 H6 and the H8 to get the new H6E. Cause yes though surround wize it's a downgrade ahim talking menus. But I guess it's a guts downgrade based on your review too. Which hmmm again talking menus. But I would sound wize rather H8 sound and 10 channal Atmos. Basically too bad they didn't do an H8E.
But yeah they should've 1 put USB C on the 8. Then 2 written more into the app. Again as I said on 1 of your other vids it's only inaccessible because Zoom let the H8 be so. We can mostly use the F recorders with the app. But still there's things lacking in the app. It would be better if they spoke like the new Esental 1s. But yes that surprised me that Reaper saw the H8 and automatically selected all the ins and outs.

There was no promise to review that. Right after I said if you want to see more about utilizing the H8...stay tuned. I ended up doing a video about how to mic a drumset with 6 mics...and it fell flat. The add on to that video was supposed to be that we recorded that video with the H8 Since it flopped...we scrapped it. It happens
I've owned the H8 since 2020, never knew that's where the cap could be stored 2:30. Genius design!!
Me too 😂

Yeah...both are amazing units...though the H8 is a bit more user friendly I find.

I have the Zoom H6 and seems to work very well but this thing is insane.
I wish Zoom would update software for the H8 giving all inputs a safety track of -12 or -15db. Not just the xy capsule.
It's most likely a limit of the processing power (computer) in the H8 so I doubt they could do that or else they would have done it before they even released it

I have a question, which one is best sound quality for studio recording l… Zoom L8 or the Zoom h8?

My H6 is great and I loved my old H4N. Never should have given it away. But I can't see any advantages in jumping to H8.

The cable management is a nightmare with the H6. I wish they would have put all the inputs on one side.
Can we record Mono in Zoom H8 using XYH-6 capsule ?

Is it Darths' communicator?
I am sure I can find that somewhere in the user guide
I hope you'll review Zoom F6 one day!

349.99 aint a bad price for what it does.I love it!!
Can it easily take a line level without a DI?
That is a great question...and one I didnt test.
Stupid Aiden...STUPID AIDEN!!
When I get the chance I will test that out
@@DarkCornerStudios I have taken line level from a sound desk at school concert no problems. If level is still too high engage the -20db pad.

Dylan is hard-core with the H8
