Should we tell him that Floor and Simone have sung together quite a few times? "Sancta Terra" by Epica, their 10th anniversary concert - check it out. Floor, Simone, Epica, 70 piece orchestra plus a choir, all live. There's a cute video out there of Floor and Simone goofing around while trying to rehearse one of Floor's reVamp songs. They've been friends for quite a while.
BTW, the guy doing the harsh vocals is Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor) who used to be in After Forever with Floor. European metal is a tight community.

    SO..... Epica...
Epica is Epic (well deserved name for the band).
Singers name is Simone Simons , and she and Floor are good friends (they are both Dutch) and both classically trained .
Harsh Vocals Mark Jansen, no relation to Floor Jansen, he is ex-After forever member (Floor's first band)
WHEN Epica hit hard, they are heavier than Nightwish. But they also have some really beautiful, soft and tender ballads. And they often ”cover themselves” in completely different styles (jazz, Irish folk, klezmer…).
Being familiar with most of their stuff, they still keep me amazed by their talent and epicness, which is just keep growing for almost 20 years. It’s like too much to be from this world, especially when you realize they have about 10 masterpieces in this scale, ballads that will make you cry, countless top-notch badass songs, great covers, orchestral and acoustic versions, insightful lyrics and great stage presence.. enough talent for 20 bands combined. And.. they’re so down-to-earth and generous to their fans.
    Epica fan's are Epicans .
In that note , I highly recommend next : Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show ruclips.net/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/видео.html OR
EPICA - Kingdom of Heaven Pt 3 - (ΩMEGA ALIVE) (OFFICIAL VIDEO) ruclips.net/video/BdBCVMD8TiM/видео.html

Hey man. This is just the surface of EPICA, one of their heaviests songs (good way to introduce them by the way) and Simone doesn’t show all her repeitoire. EPICA is very díverse within symphonic metal genre, from epic long songs, heavy shit and beautiful ballads. You should check the following:
    • Code of Life (live at AFAS)
    • Unleashed (Retrospect)
    • Beyond the Matrix (AFAS live & live at the Zenith)
    • Design Your Universe (Retrospect)
    • Kingdom of Heaven part 1 (Omega Alive)
    • Kingdom of Heaven part 3 (Omega Alive)
    • Unchain Utopia (Omega Alive)
    •Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect)
    Ballads:
    • Rivers (live at AFAS)
    • Once Upon a Nightmare (Omega Alive)
I have much more yo suggest of you are up to.

EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)

  • @PittDaddy
    @PittDaddy 8 месяцев назад +33

Epica is my favorite symphonic metal band. Yes, even more than Nightwish. They are definitely a harder, almost death metal sound at times, but with Simone's spectacular vocals soaring above. You need to watch them with a full orchestra and choir in the 10th Anniversary Retrospect show (2013). My favorite from that show is Unleashed. This is also the show where Floor was a guest singer on 2 songs, Sancta Terra and Sabat Mater Delorosa (Note: SND is a perfect song for Good Friday. It's a hymn about Mary's sorrow at the Cross).
Newer tunes would be Rivers live at AFAS, and Sirens, a trio with Simone, Charlotte Wessels, and Myrkur.
Also, listen to The Essence of Silence and Once Upon a Nightmare from Omega Alive. When you are ready, their magnum opus is a song called Kingdom of Heaven, Part 3 from the Omega Alive show, 13 1/2 minutes of perfection.

So…they were opener for Sabaton when saw them at Stage AE in Pittsburgh. They were incredible (both bands were). Was 2-3 rows back from stage (Stage AE is great place for a show and has really good acoustics). Best part - like 46 bucks for VIP tickets. Definitely see them if you have a chance. Simone’s vocals just soar above the metal and the harsh vocals just meld perfectly with everything. They are a fun band onstage as well. You should try to find the video of the last show of the US tour when they came out on Sabaton’s last song of tour. Was hilarious.

  • @eckligt
    @eckligt 8 месяцев назад +8

Always great to see someone become acquainted with Epica for the first time!
The song where singer Simone gets to flex the most is the ballad "Tides of Time", but unfortunately it doesn't have a music video or pro-shot excellent live version. If you're happy doing the studio version in a future reaction, then I suggest that. There are even fan-made montages of the studio version with some imagery from live shows if you want a non-static image for people to look at (the one by the user luBazan is the best). For fan-filmed live footage of the song, the version from Philadelphia in 2010 is probably the best.
I also really like the more recent Epica material, which leans maybe a bit more proggy, like "The Skeleton Key", where you should prefer to react to the "Omega Alive" live version.
"Omega Alive" was Epica's pandemic project, where they performed a bunch of old and new material in the studio, in full concert format, but without an audience. It was later streamed and released for sale.
One song that is popular with other reaction channels is "Unleashed", which is uptempo but it has no growling from the dudes in the band. The version from "Retrospect 2013" is the preferred one. That was their 10th anniversary show, where they included a full symphony orchestra and choir on stage, for extra oomph!
Almost anything from "Omega Alive" and "Retrospect 2013" is worth having on the channel!
PS, fun fact: Later this year, Epica will once again pair up with a symphony orchestra and choir for four special concerts, two in Amsterdam and two in Mexico City. Just leaving that out there in case anyone didn't know!

Dude I love Simone SO much and you’re gonna love her too! Epica is awesome and have definitely managed to carve themselves a strong identity in the symphonic metal world. They’re also hands down my FAVORITE group to see live-I mean, you saw all the running around and interacting with each other that they do!
For more of Simone’s voice specifically, I love The Skeleton Key, Cry for the Moon, and Victims of Contingency from their online concert Omega Alive. I also HIGHLY recommend the song she did with Apocalyptica, Rise Again-there’s a great live version of it!
I swear there’s something in the water in the Netherlands cuz it’s turned out a truly stunning number of incredible female metal singers-Besides Floor and Simone there’s Tarja of course as well as Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation and Anneke van Giersbergen!

    @rolsen1304 8 месяцев назад +11

Yup, Simone has the most beautiful female voice I have ever heard(also possibly the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, as you will discover if you keep watching videos of them she is drop dead gorgeous). I have listened to Epica's entire discography probably a dozen times and my appriciation for them as a band and her as a vocalist just deepens every time.
If you want to hear Simone do her thing I suggest Epica - Chasing The Dragon Live at Retrospect, which starts as a ballad, builds into blackened death metal and then goes back to being a ballad at the end:) And there's a live orchestra, live choir and aerial acrobats hanging in silks from the ceiling!
Epica is heavier then Nightwish generally so if you like your music with a tasteful touch of beautiful brutality they will hit the spot just like they did for me. Brutiful music.

I understand that you are a Nightwish fan ( I used to be, but they became too folky for me)

EPICA is a Dutch band, formed in 2002 by guitarist, and harsh vocalist, Mark Jansen, after parting with his former band, After Forever. (AF was the first band Floor joined at age 16,she and Mark are not related.) Originally called Sahara Dust, they renamed the band after Kamelot's 2003 album.
Lead singer is Simone Simons, she was 17 in 2002. She switched to this style in training, from pop, after hearing Tarja with Nightwish. Coen Janssen , on keyboards, is the only other member since 2002. The current lineup has been constant since 2012, Isaac Delahaye on lead guitar, Rob van der Loo on bass. And, no the drummer is not Dave Mustaine, LOL His name is Arien van Weesenbeek. 8 albums and several EP's to date. This song is the title track to the 2nd album, released 2005, and is often used as the set closer. It is still played today. The contrasting female clean and male harsh vocals, are sometimes referred to as Beauty and the Beast. Yes, Coen's keyboard is mobile, usually on wheels or a track, and it spins. He also has a portable keyboard with harness, that you will see eventually.
As you see they are awesome live. You want a better look at Simone? I'll recommend "The Skelton Key" from the Omega Alive virtual concert in 2021. (Mostly her vocals, just a few from Mark, plus a children's choir near the end). Or the ballad "Rivers" from that same concert, sung acapella with a choir.

Next, check out Epica Live at Retrospect, 'Sancta Terra' ft Floor Jansen. Mark Jansen ( No relation to Floor, Epica founder, harsh vocals, guitarist ), was in the band After Forever along with Floor, and Floor became good friends with his then girl friend Simone. When he left to create his own band, Epica, Simone ( then only 17 yrs. old ) eventually became The singer and front person. She has been blowing minds ever since. Simone and Floor singing together is a real treat. They sing two songs at the retrospect. 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' is the other song. So beautiful.

Opera Metal is an entire subgenre of the symphonic genre all by itself.
Apart from the other recomendations in the comments there is also Dianne Ginsbergen, Charlotte Wessels- formerly of Delain, an unavoidable reaction to Blackbriar ft. Ulli Perhonen: Snow White and Rose Red plus Snow White Blood: Lullaby For The Undead, Blackbriar: Mortal Remains, Myrkur, Aurora with Wardruna AND Katrine Stenbekk of Kalandra - both doing versions of Wardruna´s anthem Helvegen.... and the list goes on.
Dimmu Borgir with Agnete Kjølsrud as guest performer: Gateways - Live- Forces Of The Northern Night.....
Nightwish with Tarja Turunen - Phantom Of The Opera - live 2008, Wishmaster..... you name it.
Ranthiel soprano´s cover of the Therion anthem Midgard.... and her take on the timeless Her Mannelig....
Oh, yes - and Eluveitie doing Thousandfold and Rebirth, - Frozen Crown - Neverending, - Furor Gallico - Waterstrings......
More Epica,- Cry For The Moon and Universal Death Squad to show their range,- and of course Sancta Terra ft. Floor - Live Retrospect Show
Based on the wall behind you,- Symphonic Operatic Progressive Melodic Contemporary Folk Metal is a thing,- especially in Europe, South America and the Far East,- just not that well known in the US,- yet.
    Welcome. :)
    Enjoy the ride.

And you can't go wrong with 'Once Upon a Nightmare', also from Ωmega Alive, also Simone only, with Coen Janssen on the grand piano and a stellar guitar solo from Isaac Delahaye on his 7-string Gibson Les Paul (ruclips.net/video/oseRJV0iEJs/видео.html)

But in the and Floor and Simone are good friends. From 2022 in AFAS arena in Amsterdam there is another totally different song called Rivers and the collab with Apocalyptica from Finland. It's just a suggestion because you will find that anyhow. Enjoy the ride!

Would you believe that EPICA have been making music for 22 years! Simone was 17 when she became the lead singer for EPICA, they have made 8 incredible studio albums, a whole bunch of EPs, digital releases and collaborative projects with other artists,
Their catalogue of music has the most variety of any band that I can think of, their music ranges from breathtakingly beautiful, through vast landscapes of prog metal and full on orchestral pieces, all the way to black and death metal, no other band sounds like them

Didn't see any of your Nightwish reactions, so I will check them out. Epica for me is more symphonic than Nightwish.
Nightwish has never done a concert with an orchestra, but Epica has in their ten year anniversary Retrospect album. This year they are doing double concerts in Amsterdam and Mexico City, all with orchestra. I consider myself lucky to have scored three tickets to the four concerts.

Personally, I wouldn't react to Sancta Terra with Floor yet. I know a lot of people are saying that you should listen to that song next but most people who request that song, not everybody, they mainly only want people to react to it just because Floor is in it. This is about Epica. I would listen to a few more songs by Epica themselves before you react to Sancta Terra.

Don't get me wrong, she's a great singer but I personally think that she's overrated and she's all that people talk about. I see people talk more about Floor than Simone, which I think is unfair because Simone has a beautiful voice too and I don't think that she gets recognized like she should be.
