I LOVE using gel crayons, I have both the Faber-Castel Gelatos and King Art Gel Sticks. I don’t mask my pages, but I found these awesome smaller brushes you can use to get right up close to the line art. Jeanne from BoBeanie Creates here on RUclips featured them in one of her colour and chat videos (dated January 20, 2024 if you’re looking for it). They were a game changer, no more white halos around the line work from not wanting to get too close. Also, for quick clean up, I use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and rub my brushes on it to get them clean. The colour may stain the brush a bit but it gets out all the leftover crayon residue.
I'm not familiar with that channel but I have some small brushes that help me get right up to the line, and I have the full set of KingArt gel sticks too! But I only have the iridescent set of the Gelatos. I usually don't activate them with water, I just use the brushes to rub the color onto the page, but sometimes I will scribble some onto my Caran d'Ache palette and pick up the color with a waterbrush. I just find it easier not having to bother with water and getting my page wet. Do you use fixative after you're done?

I don’t specifically use fixative for the gel crayons, but I use it on all my pages to prevent my pencils from rubbing on the opposite page. I find the gel crayons are quite permanent once rubbed into the page and left to set until dry.
Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous, especially the Romantic Country one. I'm going to try out the gel crayons because I love the soft gradients they give. Christmas in July sounds awesome and I love to see you work in R J Hampson's Christmas book. ❤❤❤❤❤

I cannot get the hang of using distressed inks, but I have been using the Kingart gel sticks and I love them so much. Your pictures are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 😍
I love your coloring and i really enjoy your color alongs. I am also proud of my first coloring using only alchol markers in the hachette hereos petite poupee. Before i also used them only for basing and not for shading.
I like them all! I was thinking that silicone brushes might work well in small spaces when using oil pastels...I have so many other mediums to use oil pastels are on my to try list.
I would not recommend using gel crayons over your main image. They won't erase like pastels. You don't have to mask, you just have to go slower as you move towards the image.

Karen I just watched Elm colors (Erica) and she mentioned that in the US books some of Lulu’s books are manufactured in Canada…..and those don’t play nice with water mediums. Not sure where your books in Australia are made but maybe check that out. It could be paper instead of paints. Gorgeous pages as usual! 😊
Hi lovely, I’ve used CSY paints in this book before and other Lulu books plenty of times and never had any issues, definitely not the paper for me. I can see how grainy the paint is while it’s still in the pan. I think I just got a bad batch either that or it’s to do with the pigment used 🤗
@kendraboese493 I’ll check and see where my books are printed for you so you can see if yours is the same. If you see my last Lulu colour along they went on beautifully 🤗

What color did you use for the white water 💦 it looks creamy brown ? But I have that CSY you mentioned but my blue looked way off of your color it might have been the light.❤ marina
