This is like a dream 8inch android tablet, but already bought a Samsung galaxy tab S9+ recently. It's really nice seeing android tablets being taken more seriously by more manufacturers and the 8inch form factor has been forgotten about even thou it's amazing for portability.
your s9+ is unironically better than this tablet for gaming due to the 8gen2, i just enable light mode and framecap it at 60fps and on my s23U it stays cool
Can't wait for PC game emulation perfected. You can play so many games on mobile. Oh man, I am so want to play Dark Souls, Skyrim, GTA, Bioshock etc on tablet.
Oh, the timing. I've been agonizing over ordering this tablet for a month, scouring the tubes and webs for reviews. I almost bought a Samsung 9, but I really wanted something smaller. ETA's review of the previous y700 model from last year was great, but I thought I should wait to see if he reviewed the 2023 model... so I just ordered one. Thanks, ETA.
@@iwearLingerie it’s honestly dependent on how you use it, what eco system you are in, and what your priorities are. Android still missing a ton of art apps. Especially for vector art, and if you invested in the Adobe system the iPad is the better tablet. Although I don’t think tablets are the best editing devices, the full Davinci Resolve editing suite is on iPad, not Android (personally I like LumaFusion better, and that’s on both). For Tablet it’s really between iPad or a Windows device. Because for every argument where the Android beats iPad, Windows does better, and everywhere where Android beats Windows, iOS does better. I mean educate me what does Android have that neither Windows or iPad OS has? I’m rocking a surface pro and an iPad Pro, I don’t know what an Android device can do that neither of my tablets can. Android devices are getting a lot better for sure, and I can see why someone in that eco system would choose it over an iPad, but Android is a more obvious alternative in phones not tablet.
This reminds me of my first tablet ever, Samsung Galaxy Tab pro 8.4. Perfect hardware for that time, sadly Samsung messed up badly with updates, god bless XDA and Cyanogen/Lineage
I own and still have the Galaxy Tab S 8.4, which is basically like the Tab Pro but with AMOLED. This tablet still slaps even in 2023. Pictures and video content look freaking amazing on that AMOLED display. The only way to make do with the sluggish performance is by flashing Lineage 14. There is LOS17 but it slows the tablet down.
I miss my Tab Pro 8.4. Gorgeous screen, great performance, perfect form factor. Unfortunately the kids wrecked it. This looks like it might be a worthy replacement
You are among the very few youtubers who explores desktop mode. Would be nice if you could also do it for devices that don't have it as an oem dedicated option, but can use the Android developer mode switch.
It's not exactly the same screen, but it's likely nearly identical. The Go screen will be native landscape while this one is native portrait (the orientation of the pixels is different).

I had the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 back in the day. It's still in a drawer somewhere. I loved the screen and form factor but this was in a period of horrible update policies for Samsung so I rooted and flashed roms for a while until I got out of doing that kind of stuff. For me 8 inch tablets are perfect, 16:9 tablets are the perfect form factor. Easy to reach in games and no black bars on 99% of media. I have my eye on this. But not sure if I'd use it. I traded an S6 (none lite) to upgrade to a Z Fold when it released last year. I miss microSD cards though.

100% agree. I also like 9 inch tablets but anything bigger is just cumbersome. If I'm going to bring a screen that big around I'll just bring my laptop
For info, widevine L1 isn't enough for Netflix HD unlocking, they not only require L1 but also to whitelist the device model itself for that to happen and this is where Netflix android app falls appart, even common Samsung devices are sometime not listed despite L1 support. Many people buy phones and tablet thinking L1 will be enough to discover Netflix doesn't support it in the end.
Good thing Netflix is relatively niche now. It's actually difficult to find people in the real world who have Netflix (in contrast to how EVERYONE had it a decade ago). Netflix is very easy to live without these days. Every other service (currently) works in HD.

Lenovo Legion Y700 2023 is using SD 8+ Gen 1 (TSMC) instead of the regular 8 Gen 1 (Samsung). Edit: Yeah, upon researching. It is definitely using Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Please make a correction in the video as there is a huge difference between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which was manufactured by Samsung and had inefficient thermal chipset compared to the updated Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 which is manufactured by TSMC which has better thermals. The 8 Plus Gen 1 also has higher clock and better performance than 8 Gen 1. Both are using 4nm process node though. So, please do make a erratum regarding this video as I've always been following this channel for tech news, gaming, etc. Wouldn't want the viewers to get misinformation.
This is really a crucial information needed to pass on to viewers. I have no experience of said soc's but I did experience SD 888 - manufactured by Samsung and SD 865 - TSMC. Even though 888 is newer and suppose to be better in every way, 865 is easily better by having way better thermals.
Looks like a great day to day tablet you can take and use anywhere... only niggle is that it probably could do with higher brightness for outdoor use. Still a super tablet, Lenono doing some decent moves.

Maybe I will finally upgrade my mediapad m5 8.4". Tbh it's still as snappy as when I got it 4 or 5 years ago but a little more juice for emulation would be good.
Lol I used that tablet 5 years ago too, I liked it alot, It was pretty snappy and the speaker was loud and the screen was nice and bright and sharp for the price. This tablet seems like it would be a great successor to that.
It's such a tragedy tablet companies r so conservative about putting higher end chips into tablets, the hand held market has now surpassed them even both in io, performance, and functionality even. If AYA or one of it's competitors just removes the control sticks it would blow every tablet manufacturer away..... It's also such a tragedy the market thought we needed larger tablets 8-10" was always where it was at. This has got to be the most innovative tablet on the market idk why companies arent following with similar products esp w/ how stupidly big tablets are getting.

I have this and the 2022 Y700. The older one comes with a dual charger. This 2023 that I have is the 16GB 512GB Y700. QUESTION- the original had PC MODE on tablet. I can't find it on the 2023 model.
I would have probably gotten this instead of the Tab S9, really like the 8-inch factor. Does this support "second screen" mode, like Samsung? I use it as an additional monitor when paired with my work laptop.

I feel like the only problem would be the battery life, because there are some phones in budget(or considered midrange in India) that have 6000mAh, and this may drop a bit faster than the phone. Other than that, it seems like a great tablet.
@pradeepmalar327 That's good to know. I guess we will need to find a charge limiter app for Android like Aldente for macOS. But I'm hopeful the battery, especially with an efficient processor like 8+ Gen 1 will pull through at least 2 hours of gaming which should be good enough for most on the go gaming.
That side USB-C port means I could use it in portrait with my GameSir X2 Pro for ultimate DS emulation. Even 4x3 content would be a lot bigger in portrait than it is in landscape on a phone.
Keep an eye on Brad Colbow, Lisa on Mobiletech and TeohonTech. They usually get their hands on these and do a proper pen test with pressure test and the notorious slow diagonal line test 😉
About 380 for the lesser model. But the 512/16g model and 3x accessories (screen protector, pen, simple magnetic case) is 600. A heads up - the last version of this had issues. PS5 controller didn't work and a few months of just bad patches. Be aware that getting these tablets comes with issues at times, but they run amazing when you get them.

It does have pass-through charging though, for heavier gaming sessions. But faster than 45w charging would have certainly helped.

The side usbc makes this the best device for schmup games and arcade emulation
That side USB-C port means I could use it in portrait with my GameSir X2 Pro for ultimate DS emulation. Even 4x3 content would be a lot bigger in portrait than it is in landscape on a phone.
lenovo answered my prayers after all these years... a packed system under 9 inches!!! now i would need to find people who reviews the pen for this!
Keep an eye on Brad Colbow, Lisa on Mobiletech and TeohonTech. They usually get their hands on these and do a proper pen test with pressure test and the notorious slow diagonal line test 😉

About 380 for the lesser model. But the 512/16g model and 3x accessories (screen protector, pen, simple magnetic case) is 600. I was about to get this tablet but then i saw the AYN Odin 2 and i had to pledge on that!
I just wish the Odin or this tablet had a 7" screen, personally i think it is the sweetspot for hadheld gaming...
tip for those who uses aethersx2 the performance overlay on the top right corner specially the fps and speed is color coded and it is as follows
white is full speed/stable
green is boosted frame rate
red is bad performance/unstable

The specs you shown in your video and the link you provided are different. Yours 8 gen 1, BT5.2 and wifi 6. Theirs 8 gen+ 1, BT5.1 and wifi 2.4/5g.
Where can you buy this tablet? Is it China only?
A heads up - the last version of this had issues. PS5 controller didn't work and a few months of just bad patches. Be aware that getting these tablets comes with issues at times, but they run amazing when you get them.
That's why I skipped the previous model.
