This is a "homemade" demo created to present the songs of The Peter Pan Rock Musical, from an idea of Edoardo Bennato. We have collected the images from the film of the Italian musical (not all of them are of excellent quality).
The intent of the demo is to give an idea of what an English version of the musical with these songs might be like. The singers are enthusiastic friends who helped us with the recording.
The songs performed in this musical were conceived under the light of rock 'n' roll. They offer a renewed characterisation of the story characters: Hook, represented as an old-fashioned English nobleman with his schizophrenic paranoia, is comical and ridiculous. Mr. Smee, always drunk, is Hook's natural right-hand man and, like a dog with his master, he too is ready to follow his master "...anywhere, even to hell!". Peter Pan embodies the desires of all those who refuse to grow up, finding shelter in a utopia.
Particular attention was given to the two most important female characters: Wendy and Tinker Bell. Wendy wants her dreams to come true and, although she loves Peter, she is strong enough to oppose him. Tinker Bell, whose pixie dust makes flying possible, is the other side of that magnificent female universe: she is ready to sacrifice herself to save her beloved Peter.
The Lost Boys represent the juvenile rebellion against the discipline and the rules of grown-ups. In the opera-style song All Together Let's Make a Big Fuss, Mr. and Mrs. Darling and in general all adults represent the generational conflict and the incapability of grown-ups to keep on dreaming. Particular attention was also given to the character of the crocodile that represents the inexorable passing of time. With his words "...follow the beat, if not I'll beat you up..." he imposes his dance rhythm and is therefore the only true winner.
