My late wife and I honeymooned there in 1975. Room was about $80. This included box lunch and a gourmet dinner! We took a ride in a carriage. Horses names were Bonnie & Clyde. I sat right behind Clyde,wife sat behind Bonnie. Bonnie developed a bad case of gas throughout the whole ride. Been 48 years but I still remember that my wife wanted to kill that horse! My first trip there was in 1954 with my folks. No fast food places in Ma ckinaw city. No bridge yet. Took a auto ferry across to St.Ignace. Not so commercial as in later years.

Thank you for filming your trip. I was born and raised on the island and I miss home so much. The only time I've been in the Grand was our senior banquet back in 1976. There were seven of us that graduated that year, we had a small school. Again thanks for filming!!
Thank you for this! I visited Mackinac Island as a child in 1979 and it's interesting to be able to see more of the inside of the hotel.
Its really beautiful, I love the horses and carriages and all those beautiful flowers. Have a grand time 💕
Since I've been watching you guy's, to me this was the best. The movie "Somewhere in Time" was excellent. My husband recently died and that movie with Reeves and Seymour was one of our all time favorite. Thank you for the tour.

How interesting! I've never been to Mackinac Island even though we live only a couple of states away in MN. But this made me intrigued! I'm not sure I like the Victorian look in the rooms of the Grand Hotel but I love the porch! I might have to talk to my hubby about visiting someday! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful hotel it is a cool place with a lot of interesting history. You should come stay at the greenbrier here in wv it is very fancy and a lot of well know people have stay there ,have fun and enjoy yourself

Having lived my whole life in Michigan, I wasn’t impressed with the rooms at the Grand Hotel. I get it historic, but it reminded me of my Grandmas couch haha love the island though. That’s the cool thing we all have our favorite styles :)
There are plans to remodel a bit & major redecorate soon actually. ☺I’m excited. I like the Dorothy Draper style and how cheerful it is, but it’s definitely in need of an update pretty badly.

My mother and I love the movie Somewhere in Time, so much that I have passed it on to my daughters and soon will pass it on to my granddaughters. I have never been there, but I would love to some day

If you've never been try the greenbrier in white sulfur springs WV lots to see SW of there including the new river gorge national park, Beckley exhibition mines, Babcock state park, Hawks nest state park and the list goes on just a few hours from Pigeon Forge.

I stayed at the Grand Hotel for two nights back in 2000. I remember the huge dining room and sitting on the front porch. They have a lot of weddings there. Loved the entire island, too. Great memories.

Lucky you! I’ve been to the island but never stayed at the hotel. Maybe one day. Yes, the movie Somewhere in Time with Chris Reeve and Jane Seymour is one of my favorites. In fact, I just watched it a few weeks ago.

Our youngest son and I did the $10 tour because hub refused to stay there. It was always a dream to go and still have my GH sweat jacket that I bought while there (early 2000's). We walked all through it. But I want to say "THANK YOU SO MUCH" for the shot of the cupola!!! The most beautiful I've ever seen and brought back SO many memories!!! 💝

This is a whole lot like the Greenbrier Resort in WV, y’all should definitely put that on your list of places to visit! There’s so much history there, but very expensive too!

Why did you go downtown for dinner? Every rate quoted on the Grand Hotel's web site includes dinner in the Main Dining Room!

Definitely The Shining look
My family is doing a road-trip to Mackinaw city there in early September, not sure we will make it to Mackinac Island kind of like Martha’s Vineyard we stayed over for 3 nights Mackinac island looks like that also but the parking might break you
If you're staying at The Grand Hotel, you really should eat there and truly enjoy the experience.

You I have lived up here for over 30 years, I have been to Mack Island but never the grand, although my daughter and husband both did honor guard duty there with scouts. I def want to go. It seems so expensive but def worth it at least to have dinner. Btw I have to comment on your skin, your skin looks fantastic in this yooper air sweetheart. That Mackinaw USCG was the boat my father in law worked on. Thank you for the vid's and I wish I knew you were coming up cause I would like to have met you guys. Usually we travel to TN, FLA and Wi and Cali with the UK (Scotland in Aug).

If you like the style of the hotel you should stay at the Greenbrier in Lewisburg WV!
Did you not eat dinner and breakfast at The Grand? That's an important part of staying there.
