Sean, when I first watched this video several years ago...I think all I saw was blurry feet. I had very little idea what I was looking at. I have been working on all the drills, progressing from the easier ones to the hard ones and now I watch this video from start to finish with a really good idea of what this is all about! Thanks! This has improved my skating and coaching ability immeasurably!
I used to play hockey for my school 30 years ago and since then I has been sure I can skate until I watched this video :( I can't. At least for ice-hockey purposes. I tried to replicate his exersices and although I did them ugly and half his speed, in 20 minutes my legs were exhausted as if I skated hour and a half my usual mode. Good thing is I now know what to do. Thanks for the lesson!

I've used this video for training the past year and It has been a huge help. I started skating around 30 and you really helped me master my edges on and off the ice!
I've probably watched this series of videos at least 10 times. I keep coming back for more drills as my skill improves. It's been very helpful. Thank you!
Man, your videos are amazing. Great edge control is essential to skating, so I watch this one every weekend before I hit the ice. I learn something new each time I watch it for the duration of it. I learn so much of your teaching that I feel guilty or like a parasite. If you have a website that takes donation I will pitch in. My friend who goes to the same rink, I saw him doing a lot of stuffs that you do and I asked him if he watched you he said all the time and said you are D-best, he got me to buy a VH too👍🏽👍🏽
People saying using the heel is a no-go, or that they prefer a smooth skater, didn't get the memo. This video is all about controlling the egdes, which is the basis of every skate move, gripping the ice like he does requires good leg and ankle strength, which will help in sharp turns. If you prefer smoothness, play roller hockey. Sweet video, as usual!
I'm only a few months into skating and have been watching your videos and like how you emphasise the importance of listening to the sound of your skates and where to concentrate your weight. I watched your video (numerous times) on the fwd stride and the sound it makes at the very end of the stride where your toe digs in for a bit. I went out and worked at it for hours and could here it and well not close to yours but could here it. I think people that wear ear buds when trying to learn to skate are missing out. thanks for your hard work make these videos.

I just want to say thank you so much for doing this video (as well as all your others, but in particular this one). I love watching hockey and love skating even more. I really wanted to play ice hockey, but here in the UK it's an incredibly niche sport with very few facilities and infrastructure, plus I'm 30 so I just wrote myself off as been "too old to start". However about four months ago I just decided to get out on the ice, I felt my progression was going well until I tried to master the hockey stop. No matter how many different videos I watched I just couldn't understand what I had to do and was starting to get frustrated at my plateau of progress. This video was such an eye opener in terms of actually understanding my edges. Whilst there's still a load of exercises in this video I'm still a long way from successfully pulling off, the ideas really translated well into my hockey stop practice, and I was finally able to do a passable hockey stop today for the first time (follow by about 50 more, haha). It was such a boost, and your video really helped contribute to that success, thank you again for putting such a clear informative video on a free platform such as youtube. This kind of insight would probably cost £50 an hour for a lesson. My goal for 2019 is to get good enough to join an amateur ice hockey team (I played field hockey to a high level at uni so hopefully the stick skills will come more naturally). I'm holding out on your videos to carry me there.
Greendotz thank you so much for this message! Such a nice compliment, it feels good to know you’re benefiting from watching the videos so much! You’re never too old to learn a skill or new sport. I’m learning to play tennis at the moment since I’ve always enjoyed playing the game! I hope these videos continue to help you with your progress. I'm 44 and just started in a rec league they call "Never-ever League". It's for those who've never ever skated, played hockey, don't know the rules, etc. I mean, I've skated 8 times in my life before doing this, so it wasn't quite never-ever for me! :D And I know what icing is. The "league" is 10 lessons to teach the basics and then, if we feel comfortable, join a beginner playing league. Or just do never-ever again. Absolutely wonderful video. So many information, thanks a lot. I'm gonna watch it again and again with slow motion to learn them all. I'm also going to try this on inline skate. Do you think any of them are not possible in inline skate? Anyway i'll be on ice too.
Dear iTrain Hockey Team, so many Thanks for this Videos Series!!!!! I learn so many from you !!! many Thanks Love the details you explain and break down each movement , Great job guys , wish all of you a great X-MAS Time and many beatitude memory on the ICE, Take care and best greetings from Switzerland
+Bob Bruyn. One small remark after viewing for a second time. It might be nice if you explained in which situation you would use the various techniques. For instance you show skating backward using inside edges and also outside edges. When would you use one and when would you use the other....
two questions for you: first, I would love to try all those outside edge drills but I can barely balance for half a second before falling on the ice when I try to use the outside on only one foot. So what do you recommend to get started? Second, where did you buy that blue suit you are wearing, or where can you get something like it, as that looks comfortable to practice skating in.
You are fantastic man! Learning a lot form your useful exercises; If I have had you as teacher in the past when I was playing hockey now I would have kept playing it. Anyway, now I can improve just ice skating
thanks for the video. I have trouble with getting confidence on my outside edges, but with some modification to the drills, I think I am progressing. Slowly but surely. :)
당신의 많은 가르침에 진심으로 감사 드립니다. I really thanks to your good and kind Ice hockey education. i am player of amature senior Ice hockey team membet. I started 3 months ago. So! still I have learn skate skill more than drill and the other. Our team name is Majors. Just give me a some cheer up! I'm gona to tell about u to our member to learn c-cut edge skill and power skating. Thanks
Either this dude has a microphone taped directly onto his blade holders or he's one of the most powerful skaters I've ever seen. His c-cuts sound like a whip snapping, unreal. This guy is transferring every ounce of energy directly through the ice.
Your work here is amazing and I can't thank you enough for this awesome series. One question I have is, since I go to public skating sessions-where there are little kids and figure skaters, and they do not allow hockey sticks-to practice and learn, is it detrimental if I don't use a stick when doing these drills and does it affect the motion and balance enough to create bad habits?
Just got back from city rec and the most annoying people are the hockey players and figure skaters doing their fancy footwork! Some of just want to enjoy a leisure skate with our kids!
Such a helpful video. Thanks so much Sean. I have been taught to put more weight on the heel when skating backwards, and I always felt apprehensive (scared of falling backwards). You have the weight towards the toe in these drills. Where should your weight be when you're trying to skate fast backwards?
I found it so funny @ 10:30 when he said "a lot of the other kids" as he was a kid himself. :D and than he compares the kids' cuts with his cut. :D great video and also helpful. Thanks and thumbs up
Thanks very much Pekka! Haha! Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! 4:43 "Right in the middle" looks inside edge to me. Very skilled and strong player obviously. 40min video the guy doesnt sound winded at all, crazy ! The poor ice tho :( I bet when this guy is on ice Zamboni just follows him :D
Im 6'1 280lbs and i have just started out at 25 yrs old and bc of your videos and in depth explanations of every drill i have progressed relativity fast still falling but getting better so thanks for the videos....any chance you do a video on puck control and accepting passes while moving
YeaThtHappened79 Awesome! Crazy how similar our two situations seem.. I too am 6'2 280 last time I weighed in... and I'm also 25... LOL I wonder if we live in the same area... I'm in South Florida, Palm Beach County area... I too also just started Ice skating at the nearby Skatezone and hoping to get really good and maybe even into Speed Skating and one of my goals is trying out for the Olympics!!! xD I can do cross overs front / sort of backwards crossovers too, can't really do a full hockey stop just like a half partial one... Anyways, Good luck on your progress.

Where can I get the blue jumpsuit? I want to practice without full gear but need pants big enough at least to fit knee/shin pads underneath. Any help is greatly appreciated!
One of my favorite footages upon hockey skating techniques) I also watch PATINAGE DE HOCKEY series from Quebec in French. I address my question to ITRAIN hockey specialists- in the video from Qurbec theere is a clear statement that performing backward crossovers the extterior leg must keep the permenent contact with the ice. Do you agree with this suggestion? Thank you a lot in advance fro responding me.
didn't U realise that this video is a set of drills for those self-educating? Sure in the classes he does this differently, though 20 persons can do it comfortably without killing each other
Then imagine having to play a game after 40 teenagers do skating drills on the same sheet over and over again for an hour. :( No zamboni is gonna fix that.
This style of skating is to choppy, you can dig ice with lighter impact with great result?Cutting to deep ,will give you no speed - I do prefer wave movement(bending knees&torso coordinated ,your whole body working in unison) ,the silent you skate, move -the faster you are.
What is your Hollow? I am left with some confusion. It looks like you are digging in with a 6/16-3/8 but then with the speed it is more like a 12/16-3/4. The best answer would be 16/16-flat, would make my day. Thank you for the content, I will have to watch this over and over again for a good while.
Thanks very much for your comment Jim! You're right! Sean uses a 16/16 edge for a standard cut. Any other questions? Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! The outdoor ice helps allot for u to hold on which really helps u get used to it and expand your abilities
Очень хорошие силовые упражнения , подходят как для любителей так и для профи 👍
Absolutely wonderful video. So many information, thanks a lot. I'm gonna watch it again and again with slow motion to learn them all. I'm also going to try this on inline skate. Do you think any of them are not possible in inline skate? Anyway i'll be on ice too.
Dear iTrain Hockey Team, so many Thanks for this Videos Series!!!!! I learn so many from you !!! many Thanks
Love the details you explain and break down each movement , Great job guys , wish all of you a great X-MAS Time and many beatitude memory on the ICE, Take care and best greetings from Switzerland
TAL74 thank you so much! I’m so happy to know you’re enjoying the videos all the way from 🇨🇭! Keep in touch! - Sean
Wow, truly a fantastic instructional video, thank you. Now have some new things to practice
Wish I had a coach like him. Love all the videos
27:30 he becomes the ice shredder most satisfying part 😂😂
Superb video and explanation, gonna incorporate this this on my inline skates training, guess I'll be needing a LOT of wheels
Awesome video! Probably one of the most well explained and complete videos ive seen! Heaps of tips for me to practice.
Very clear and understandable step by step video. Thanks!!
+Bob Bruyn. One small remark after viewing for a second time. It might be nice if you explained in which situation you would use the various techniques. For instance you show skating backward using inside edges and also outside edges. When would you use one and when would you use the other....
Start making videos again your content and knowledge is great
two questions for you: first, I would love to try all those outside edge drills but I can barely balance for half a second before falling on the ice when I try to use the outside on only one foot. So what do you recommend to get started? Second, where did you buy that blue suit you are wearing, or where can you get something like it, as that looks comfortable to practice skating in.
i got great improvement of my skating skill by watching your video, thanks a lot! btw why there is no new videos recently, i am expecting!
because it seems to me that he have explained the all basics for hockey. Then videos as i see should be dedicated to strategy.
nice stuff!!!!! very professional demonstration and explanations!!!!!!!
You are fantastic man! Learning a lot form your useful exercises; If I have had you as teacher in the past when I was playing hockey now I would have kept playing it. Anyway, now I can improve just ice skating
i love this video it helps me a lot. Thank you
thanks for the video.
Thanks
Cheer up 노종희 everything is going to be ok.
Why have I not found these videos before! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you!!!
I wish i could like this millions of times! :D
Facts
Either this dude has a microphone taped directly onto his blade holders or he's one of the most powerful skaters I've ever seen. His c-cuts sound like a whip snapping, unreal. This guy is transferring every ounce of energy directly through the ice.
Best trainer in the world!👌🏻
Very amazing indeed. Now i want to try ice skate.
edges are so important, builds strength, good video dude
Really great drills!
If you did that down here in Australia, we'd have to zamboni the ice after every drill.
thank you very much for all your videos
this dude can skate mad
My ole knees hurt just watching.
...
Actually he seems pretty happy while doing it.
The question that hasn't been answered: If I do this to the ice at a public skate, will I be banned for life? Should I tip the Zamboni driver after?
I am about to that at the next public skate. We will see.
Yes, tip him. This is a pain.
Go do a stick and puck instead of public skating. It's literally an open hockey practice👍
Thanks and thumbs up
Do this on the figure skating rink! Thanks
simply brilliant , thank you
ABSOLUTLY PERFECT...IF YOU WANT TO BE CONSIDERED AS A GOOD SKATER YOU CAN DO ALL THESE DRILLS/SKATING FOBS... COACH
best skating instructor
Great tips ! Thank you !!!
Spectacular Video
Amazing video and demonstrations
40 Zamboni drivers disliked the video :)
Thank you so much for sharing great content❄️
Amazing / insane moves. I think, I need to pass these drills, just not to hurt myself or anybody in the process...
Thanks very much Pekka! Haha! Great to hear from you and hope this video really helped you out! 4:43 "Right in the middle" looks inside edge to me.
Very skilled and strong player obviously. 40min video the guy doesnt sound winded at all, crazy !
The poor ice tho :( I bet when this guy is on ice Zamboni just follows him :D
this is incredibly well presented!
What do I have to do to get you to come to Florida and do some clinic's
How tight are your skates supposed to be? Do you have a video on proper skate fitment?
I remember watching this video a few years ago wishing I could skate like this. I'm happy to say I'm almost there.

This is way above my level
Epic! Thanks From Arizona!
amazing video and awesome skill!
These training episodes are great! Treating that ice like Chappelle as Rick James on Charlie Murphy's couch :D
Best tutorial for sure...
Очень круто и доходчево! Спасибо!!!
Чеб понимал
He skates 5 minutes and they have to pass the Zamboni again
imagine what happens on his classes when bunch of people does the same thing.. ^^
didn't U realise that this video is a set of drills for those self-educating?
Sure in the classes he does this differently, though 20 persons can do it comfortably without killing each other
Then imagine having to play a game after 40 teenagers do skating drills on the same sheet over and over again for an hour. :( No zamboni is gonna fix that.
and he has to sharpen his blades
This style of skating is to choppy, you can dig ice with lighter impact with great result?Cutting to deep ,will give you no speed - I do prefer wave movement(bending knees&torso coordinated ,your whole body working in unison) ,the silent you skate, move -the faster you are.
does this guy ever do this in ontario? this would be great ...
Wow... Just.. Wow.. Great stuff.
You are an amazing skater...you have to be kidding me on some of these drills
What is your Hollow? I am left with some confusion. It looks like you are digging in with a 6/16-3/8 but then with the speed it is more like a 12/16-3/4. The best answer would be 16/16-flat, would make my day. Thank you for the content, I will have to watch this over and over again for a good while.
Thanks very much for your comment Jim! You're right! Sean uses a 16/16 edge for a standard cut. Any other questions?

Just listen to his skating. Meaning the sound of him skating. He skates purely on edge. That's insane. He's practically on his inside edges all the time.
Great video. Would love to able to skate like that one day!
msanna4 you will
Tarek Tawfik Thanks for the encouragements I appreciate it
Thank you
28:52 I can not disagree with that! Love the vids.
these would make for some great goal celebrations.
