- In this video, the very first iteration of NHL 94 is shown on MS-DOS between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Islanders. This video shows the version of NHL Hockey 94 on PC, which is graphicwise a step back from Sega Genesis or SNES. But it still has a great atmosphere and gameplay provided by EA Sports. It was the first attempt to get this ice hockey simulated in a high quality, which it was back in time. Sports games are amazing of the 16-bit era, so I hope you enjoy this video.
To add this - I normally play(ed) on Joystick, so it wasn't too easy for me using Keyboard controls (no joystick was recognized). But honestly the steering felt much more direct than in Madden or Fifa of this years iteration. Electronic Arts put out a good game to one of the most amazing sports series of its time.
Today, 2 buttons do not feel too intuitive anymore. Newer titles give more control to the player, tso I appreciate this more after playing that title again. The exhibition on NHL 94 still was fun, I might come back without recording a video, too.

Didn’t realize the PC version had all these cool little details like the PA announcer, players heading to the bench in between plays, and a ref on the ice! So cool. Wish that would have made it into the sega/snes versions
I just knew the PC version, so your comment is interesting because I didn't know any differences on NHL 94 on other systems. Thank you for sharing your memories.
We also liked playing that in Germany, so 93/94 also ran quite well on my 486 and actually played well with a Soundblaster card and joystick! I've always taken the EA All Stars.
I was addicted to NHL 96, 98, 2000 and 2001. Then I was distracted more and more by NBA Live, but I still like the NHL series. It's a shame the last PC game was in 2008/09 of the series. I would be very happy for a comeback.....
The first thing I noticed is the players look different and I know this isn't the preferred version of this. But the rink is bigger which is truer to hockey.
Well I think the hockey games nowadays do not feel much more realistic than the old titles of the 90ies.
