This video is outstanding!! Emma offers really clear and thorough explanations on how to pronounce schwa correctly, with lots of examples!! Thank you, Emma!! You're a fabulous teacher!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A very well structured lesson for today. Particularly the part about the most important difference between American and British English. Thank you, Emma 😊
I just got to see you baby girl ok help me with this ok I just love 💕 you ok thinks it's good for me to do it to you baby girl ok help me out ok love 💕 you ok baby girl
Interesting about "thorough"! Where I grew up, around Toronto, we'd say: tho-rowe (making a "w" sound with the end)! I noticed that a lot of Northeastern Americans (USA) will not use the schwa sound where Canadians do. For example, we say, forest (f/ə/rest), whereas the Northeastern Americans say far-est. S/ə/rry becomes "sar-ry"!
Brian Richards could you give me an example of the words you mean, please? I’m not sure what you mean by these transcriptions because the second one doesn’t exist in the British phonemic chart 😄
That's my point, it sounds more American. For example, in words such as "know, so, boat, etc". Sometimes trying to change it I end up saying a kind of "nau or nou" insted. Thanks Emma!
This is truly a Master Class! It is not only liked, but also saved for watching again as well. Thank you, thank you and a million more times thank you, Emma!
over on the English With Lucy channel, she also has a video on the Schwa sound so, if anyone wants additional practice with it, i highly recommend that one as well. both that video and this one are great example of the Schwa sound :-)
Hi Emma, would you agree that another major difference between the British and American accent would be their different ways of saying the a sound? Also, it seems to me that the British tend to pronounce the short vowels shorter (which is the way I learned) and the Americans tend to stretch it a bit more?
Thank you Emma. Yours videos are well edited, good structures. Enough to things but not too much. (This is my opinion, my listening skills is good) Well done Emma 😊
