Join me and my trail brothers Chad ‪@beyondthecampfire‬ and Nick ‪@Smokeybeesnatural‬ as we summit Mt. LeConte (6593ft) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! We came down in late February hoping to get some extreme winter weather, but the temperature was just a few degrees above freezing for the entire trip, leaving us socked in fog and rain as we climbed. However, the moisture made all the colors inside the forest canopy burst with vibrancy, and the respite at the LeConte shelter to escape the rain was an amazing blessing for us. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ambient sights and sounds along this beloved mountain!

Shew I’m ready for a nice warm fire and dry clothes after that hike 😅. I’ll have to admit in that beginning when Chad was walking up the trail with the fog rolling in I felt like it was the start of a Stephen King movie 😮😳😁Forgot the shelter was a full house but the rain hitting the roof would have made for a good night of slumber 😊. Great video and y’all kill me with the delicious food at the end I’m
Salivating now looking at the pizza 🤤😅Proud of you ! Love you !

It was a wet, cold, and damp trip for sure! The fog definitely made the mountain feel a little more creepy than usual haha. We were very thankful for that shelter so we did not have to fool with wet tents the next day! And we can never have a trip without a satisfying post hike meal together! Thanks for watching, Mom! Love you!

I felt cold and damp once again! It was great to relive that trip again! I forgot about the group we met at the trail intersection! That blooper was the best one 😅

When y’all made this trip, we were up north researching your mountain and watching your weather. Now, we are there in the same spot and have enjoyed experiencing your adventure through this wonderful video. How could we have imagined then how the cool, wet climb would be through such vibrant scenes of wild mountain nature? Even the foggy mist accented the woodland ready to spring green. Again, your production allows us to feel the wonders while sitting in easy chairs. Thanks for bringing that to us in such a realistic, artistic way.
As always, it’s great to see the three of you together on a quest! The scene of passing behind the falls, reminds me of Dogslaughter. And, that reminds me of the respect shared by those who will walk in the rain to feel the Creation.
This video subtly demonstrates how life has hills to climb and rainy days, but there’s beauty along the way… and goodness to share. There’s a thought for Ted Talks or a good sermon. I know that your taking us along has brightened my path. Klondoogie and amen.

It is always a special treat to receive comments so thoughtful from someone like our Beloved Senator! Thanks for taking the time to watch and reply - it truly means more than I will ever be able to express. Thank you (and Uncle Billy) for planting the seeds of inspiration in my youth for this hobby that has become a passion and spiritual discipline of mine. Lord willing, there will be lots more to share with you in the weeks, months, and years to come - maybe even with a future generation of Janes', if they like the outdoors, of course! Love you bro, shine!

I think this was the perfect choice for a no-narration video. It has such a strong storyline and so many arresting images that it doesn't need any words to guide us through it. And I had a blast re-living it. I'm beginning to think that I should put this trip above even our Cumberland Mountain trip!
    0:15 I like your fog 😉
0:50 I agree with myself that this place deserved to be documented, and I really like the composition of this shot in particular.
1:05 I forgot about the devilry of this clock! That horror movie pulse in the music is so well-timed, haha.
2:05 This also looks very horror movie-ish now that I look back on it.
2:50 I can’t get enough of the foggy ambiance. I could hike through and watch it all day.
3:05 I’m jealous of your shot of this spider web, haha. I didn’t like mine very much.
4:22 I see what you did here 😉
4:46 Starting at exactly this point, you and Nick are so in sync that it looks choreographed. Synchronized stream crossing!
6:25 I like all the shots of this waterfall, but this one where we’re walking behind it is probably my favorite. I always forget just how WET this hike was, and you do a great job of showing all the different forms the water took.
7:20 This was a great lunch spot and a great lunch. Except that I just remembered how sick I felt after eating about a thousand calories…
8:40 I don’t remember this rock wall. It’s always interesting to watch one of our videos and find something that I have no recollection of whatsoever, haha.
8:52 We were so hopeful in this moment…
9:50 Oh wow, I love the raindrops adding to the different colored speckles of this rock.
10:10 Something about the fog moving behind that serrated row of dark trees makes me feel a longing for the wilderness that hurts my guts.
11:15 This pan (and others in this video) is so smooth! Did you shoot in 60 fps?
12:20 All I remember about this section is how dead I felt.
12:35 You got a lot of interesting shots of the lodge, like this one with all the criss-crossing lines. Reaching that place is still one of my most memorable moments from our trips.
14:35 The rain dripping from the eaves and the sounds of us making our beds fills me with coziness. This was probably my favorite shelter experience ever. I’ve never been more grateful for having an actual roof over my head as opposed to a tent. This would have been a much different night if we’d been in the tents.
16:30 The POV sleeping bag shot and the rain on the roof are making me sleepy. If I had this ambiance every night I’d sleep a lot better.
17:00 But as great as the shelter experience was, it was still disappointing to wake up to rain. That’s what my face is saying here, haha.
17:15 Whoa! The swirling coffee foam looks cool! It reminds me of a shot I’ve been wanting to do for a while. It’s a secret, but I’ll share in-person 😉
19:15 I’m glad you included our farewell to Bradley. I often have the mindset of trying to avoid other people when we’re in the woods, but I’ve had a lot of great bonding moments with strangers. This one with Bradley, Drew, and those guys who camped in tents was especially memorable, probably because of the frightful weather conditions.
20:20 We look like astronauts who have just set foot on a desolate planet. The more I think about this trip, the happier I am that we got fog instead of views. Great views are easier to find than this foggy desolation.
21:22 I love this shot so much.
23:10 The series of shots of the burned trees in the fog makes me want to jump into the frame and live there for a while.
24:30 Nice job on this slow pan and reveal of Rainbow Falls.
25:00 This POV shot is really cool. It makes me feel like I’m playing Elder Scrolls or something, haha.
26:00 The thing I remember most about getting back to the car was how late in the day it was. I suppose the fog made it hard to tell what time of day it was, but I felt like we’d become completely detached from the flow of time outside of Mt. Le Conte.
26:35 Hey, this place looks even more familiar than most post-hike meal locations…
    27:03 Just the tip 🍆
27:30 This made me laugh so hard for some reason. That awkward moment when you say goodbye and then come back 10 seconds later to get your camera.
Thanks again for sharing your version of this awesome trip. We'll probably never have another trip quite like this one, and for that reason I'll cherish it all the more. I hope life is getting a little less hectic for you, and I can't wait to hang out again soon. See you in a week!

Thanks for those kind words about how I chose to edit this trip! It’s good to know I can pull off the no-narration videos, because it may become a more regular style for me, especially if I ever hope to finish this backlog haha. And you are right, this LeConte trip has the same kind of drama and weather extremes as Cumberland Gap did, for sure! Maybe that’s why we hold this trip so fondly.
0:15 10000% thanks to you and your skillz!
0:50 I’m super glad we braved the sketchiness with this motel, because it adds to the gravitas of this trip’s story!
1:05 You’re making me glad I slept in the same bed as Nick instead of solo with all this horror nuances hahahahaha
2:05 “The LeConte Lurker: A Serial Killer Loose in the Smoky Mountains”. I can see the film now!
2:50 There was definitely something magical about that fog! Not mad about the conditions at all.
3:05 Really? I liked yours better than mine haha! Glad we have each other! 😉
4:22 Yet another big thanks to BTC!! I am forever indebted to you, Sir Knight from the North.
4:46 I didn’t notice this while editing, but you are so right! If that isn’t proof in the pudding that we are “Trail Bros”, I don’t know what is haha.
6:25 Thanks brother! Roger said it reminded him of walking behind Dog Slaughter Falls, which he is correct for saying. We hit Grotto at the perfect flow rate, too!
7:20 I forgot you weren’t feeling well after lunch! Must have been from that Big Chungus Pepperoni 😉
8:40 Just goes to show that there is value to have three cameras rolling on a single trip! We all capture enough nuances to make it feel fresh for the others. I feel that way all the time with your guys’ videos of the trips we go on.
8:52 Trail Santa was messing with us, here. We must have done something naughty 😉
9:50 Definitely one of my favorite shots from the trip. Almost feels similar to that shot I got during the Pine Mountain blizzard of the snowflakes slowly covering the leaf litter on the ground.
10:10 Same, brother. Same. So glad we are getting out again this weekend!
11:15 Surprisingly not! Good ole trusty RX100 III at 30fps with some DaVinci stabilization magic. You’re making me question once again why I have my Big Chungus haha.
12:20 Those last couple miles still feel like a blur. I was so over that day at that point haha.
12:35 Many thanks! Getting to see that lodge makes me want to return there and stay in them personally. Maybe that can be another Trail Tribe trip idea!
14:35 You can say that again, brother! I still can’t get over those two guys we met who stayed in their tents that night and seemed to still have a blast! I’m pretty sure I would have been miserable if not for that shelter haha.
16:30 Something about fluffy down and rain on a tin roof makes a better sedative than melatonin does.
17:00 Ugh, I know. I can’t tell you know much I wanted the temp to drop two more degrees so we could wake up to a white mountaintop. Twas not meant to be!
17:15 I’ll try to remind you to tell me about your shot idea this weekend!
19:15 Bradley was “Trail Bro” material, for sure! As was Drew! Super nice guys. I enjoy getting to interact with people on trail and at camp. You hear some great stories and adds some quality flavor to your trip, imo.
20:20 You got that right! That fog was interstellar! I would like to return to see that panoramic view, but we had some more “mountaineering” conditions like we did at Cumberland Gap. Another badge to add to our experience belt!
21:22 Looks like we are in Tolkein’s universe on some wild fantasy quest across the country.
23:10 I would have loved to spent more time exploring that area! Almost felt Garden of the Gods-ish with those crazy, exposed rocks.
24:30 Slow Pans to waterfalls are some of my favorite shots to compose! So much fun!
25:00 The stabilization was weird enough on a couple of spots on this shot that I almost left it out, but your comment made me glad I did keep it. Very Elder Scrolls-like!
26:00 Shewee, that was a long day, wasn’t it?! I didn’t even feel like we dilly dallied all that much. Almost like the fog slowed down (or accelerated) the flow of time.
26:35 Bwahahahahaa sorry guys, that’s my bad for the repeat 😉
27:03 Best BTC blooper/comment ever. Freaking dying over here.
27:30 That lady left me all kinds of blooper gold with her comments. She was a hoot!
Thanks again for all the support you show to BB and our friendship, brother! Means a lot to hear from you in this capacity. I think the Trail Tribe has enough magic between the three of us to invoke some more crazy weather adventures down the road. Heck, maybe even this weekend 😉 See you then!

Hey thanks for watching! We made a loop out of this trip. Parked at Trillium Gap Trailhead, took Trillium Gap Trail all the way up to LeConte (Shelter is just off the AT). The next day we took the AT to the Rocky Spur Trail, followed by the Rainbow Falls Trail back to the car. We use REI Hiking Project App for our maps, they do a great job on your cell phone! And that pizza was amazing! Thanks again! :)
