The visuals in "Paddington" are stunningly beautiful, and really harkens back to that simple filmmaking style. It's also a rare case of the sequel being JUST as enjoyable as the original, in my opinion.
On the subject of kids not being stupid, when I was a kid, one of my favorite shows was Batman: TAS, because it didn't talk down to me. It presented characters in a mature and realistic way (At least personality wise), and I appreciated that.
Same!!! .... Hated shows and cartoons for children!!! .... I found them so juvenile and beneath children.... They were definitely adults ideas of what they THOUGHT children wanted or liked.
This is why i love the old teen titans and hate the new ones. The old one talked about grief, havihg to do something you dont want to, and other things that are actually useful to children. The new one thinks kids are "haha butt fard go brrr" Its annoying, judgemental, and gets old fast
This is a gripe I also have. I find I regularly describe films as "kid's movies" that other people would say are more adult, because I take "kid's movies" to mean "great meaning that treats you like an adult but has enough fun to keep kids engaged." Films that talk down to children, in my opinion, are less than kid's movies, they're just "bad movies" or something
"How much do we protect the safety of ourselves and our families? and how much does, safety, become something stifling, which holds us back?" .... Paddington 🐻, has been my idol, since, birth. Excellent, review! So happy you chose, to spotlight this wonderful and timeless film. Definitely, 🐻, approved!!! I give it 10 marmalade 🥪 sandwiches.
The original books were based on the kindertransport children who arrived in London, wrenched from their families who were mostly later murdered by the Nazis because the British government wouldn’t accept them, and Paddington also had a close relationship with Mr. Gruber, another immigrant, who has been extrapolated to be a Holocaust survivor, or possibly a refugee from the Soviet Union.
As someone who has watched this with young kids, my neice and nephew, I will say they adore this movie. They like the slapstick, a lot, nothing makes them scream with delight more then mischief. However, where they grow to love a movie is everything else it bring to the table like good characters and story like Paddington and Paddington 2. It's creative and they become invested in the well being of the characters. Unlike many more cash-grab movies that might be memoriable in how bizare they are, or reliant on pop references, Paddington has a wonderful slow breathable pace that can make for a nice calming watch. Ever if they might be giggling like mad at one point, by the end they are watching with wrapped focus with the tension of the climax and cheering for the family to win the day in the end.
came here to say this, the slapstick *really* landed for the kids in my house, it can be hard for littles to stick with a full length movie and the promise of more slapstick really helped mine get to the end and love it.
that's good to hear! As I said, the slapstick bits were what I enjoyed the least in the film, but they were still done well and I assumed the target audience of kids would love it
Beautiful review. Thank you. I remember watching this film with my kids and being pleasantly surprised at how good it was. You managed to articulate far better than I could why it’s a great family film.
A fantastic video about a fantastic film. Each time I watch both Paddington films I'm always amazed by the love and effort put into them. Children get smarter with each new generation and films like Paddington that don't talk down to children and show complex and realistic messages in understandable ways will always be appreciated and timeless. Your analysis was really well done, amazing work!
I would urge you to watch (and review, please) Paddington 2. I think it's the perfect example of that rarest of phenomena - a sequel that's better than he original.
The way you express your thoughts and ideas so clearly with the proper words has helped me understand so much better why exactly certain aspects of movies didn't fulfill me quite like some others and how to myself word these emotions. I have yet to watch Paddington because I haven't heard much of it honestly but this was a great incentive to do so and i absolutely love how it came accross from this video
Paddington is a masterpiece. And I’m an adult with no kids who usually doesn’t watch kids’ movies. I bumped into Paddington by coincidence thanks to the jubilee clip of him having tea with the queen. It’s one of my favorites now, a movie I could watch dozens of time and every time be delighted once again.
This is one of those movies that makes me wonder how many cinamtic master pieces I've skipped over because I assumed they were not for me.... Seems kinda relevant to the point this movie tries to make :P
The word goes that after seing the depth of Padington film David Linch tried to achive the same in the new season of Twin Peaks. He failed... 😂 great video mate!
The bathroom scene stressed my son out when he first saw it. When Paddington went down the stairs in the bathtub my son started bawling because he broke the tub and my son loves baths.
lol i’m an adult and i cried so much watching paddington the first time, it really does have so much heart and the realism to the struggles paddingtons experiences gets to me (‘: great video as always!
i think "kids' movie" can be broken down as, just to fill the time and make noise, grows with the child as they age, for the family who knows adults watch it, nightmare fuel with a morale/tale is hard to talk about
You listed a bunch of different gags, but despite having shown it at least 4 times, you never mentioned the gag where the side of the open van says "Taxi" only to reveal when the door is closed "-dermist".
I want to rewatch it now and that says a lot because I haven't watched a movie for like 6 months but I don't have Netflix anymore :c Keep it up man I love the videos and please make a video on Paddington 2! This comment is getting a little too long... I should probably stop... I should definitely stop... I can't find a good way to end this comment, what do I do? God damnit this is getting way out of hand I can't stop myself from writing. OK I'll stop for real now on 3! 3...2...1... Bye!
Excellent analysis! Paddington is a wonderful movie! Loved Simon Farnaby doing a cameo (the security guard that falls for Mr Brown), he was in director Paul King's earlier film Bunny and the Bull (not my fave, but has his signature style - not a kid's movie though). You'll love Paddington 2, I'll definitely watch any thoughts you have on that ✨💛✨
I would´nt have thought about watching a film like Paddington, if it was´nt for your indepth-review. As always it is a genuinely good thing to listen to your calm voice, talking about things i did not expect. Keep it up! Edit: Wait a minute ! 18:27 - was that Super-Hans from Peepshow ?!!
Worst thing about modern day slapstick is something coined by Nostalgia Critic years ago. "Movement Porn" When the slapstick or physical comedy is too fluid and smooth designed only to pacify or hypnotise the viewer. Paddington just barely rises above that.
Spoilers: One of my favorite parts of the 1st movie is when Henry says “What, you wanna call him Ketchup? Ketchup the Bear?” Another favorite is when Henry dresses up like a lady and he accidentally shoves Paddington’s sandwich through a tube.
Never liked the whole ´its a kids show/movie‘ because not only does it ignore the mature themes many media have that are targeted at children it’s also that if spongebob taught us anything its to not let go of the child inside of you so u don’t end up like squidward
the way I see it, kid's film should mean: mature themes and meaning that doesn't talk down to you, but fun enough to keep kids engaged. I think we need to make that the meaning of "kids film" because it's what they deserve, and anything that talks down to them is somethign lesser than a kid's movie
The first film was a scary film for some young children. One of my children had to cover his eyes because he was so frightened. The desire to promote propaganda overwhelms the film. The second Paddington film was much better and the same child enjoyed it.
The visuals in "Paddington" are stunningly beautiful, and really harkens back to that simple filmmaking style. It's also a rare case of the sequel being JUST as enjoyable as the original, in my opinion.
Same
Almost a decade later and this movie is still great. Both Paddington 1 and 2 are fantastic
On the subject of kids not being stupid, when I was a kid, one of my favorite shows was Batman: TAS, because it didn't talk down to me. It presented characters in a mature and realistic way (At least personality wise), and I appreciated that.
I second this! Just because a show is intended for a young audience, doesn't mean that it has to talk down to them, or treat them like idiots.
Same!!! .... Hated shows and cartoons for children!!! .... I found them so juvenile and beneath children.... They were definitely adults ideas of what they THOUGHT children wanted or liked.

I'm an adult and I LOVE this movie!
Short statement of agreement for your introduction: Kids like good movies too
A fantastic video about a fantastic film. Each time I watch both Paddington films I'm always amazed by the love and effort put into them. Man I was traumatized. I saw Paddington and the next day I watched The Shape of Water.
I would urge you to watch (and review, please) Paddington 2. I think it's the perfect example of that rarest of phenomena - a sequel that's better than he original.
It's a rare thing to have film that's true to the original character.

I've only seen bits of this movie. Must get around to watching it all now. Thank you enjoyed your review
Your review covering the real depth of Paddington was excellent!
Can't wait until you review the sequel.
This is one of those movies that makes me wonder how many cinamtic master pieces I've skipped over because I assumed they were not for me.... Seems kinda relevant to the point this movie tries to make :P
Such fantastic movies! Thinking about rewatching them now
The word goes that after seing the depth of Padington film David Linch tried to achive the same in the new season of Twin Peaks. He failed... 😂 great video mate!
I adore the new Paddington series!
I wouldn't call Paddington a kids film. It's a proper Family film of which there are way too few these days.
The bathroom scene stressed my son out when he first saw it. When Paddington went down the stairs in the bathtub my son started bawling because he broke the tub and my son loves baths.
Just discovered your channel, absolutely love your style of video essays (and nice to hear the POV of a fellow Brit). Going to rewatch Paddington now!
PLEASE do a video on the second one. It is just amazing as the first one (:
lol i’m an adult and i cried so much watching paddington the first time, it really does have so much heart and the realism to the struggles paddingtons experiences gets to me (‘: great video as always!
I literally went and watched this movie so I'd have the context to watch your video on it ❤️
i think "kids' movie" can be broken down as, just to fill the time and make noise, grows with the child as they age, for the family who knows adults watch it, nightmare fuel with a morale/tale is hard to talk about
YEESSSSS!!!!😆🙌🙌🙌Such a great analysis!

Taxi...dermist has got to be one of the best puns I have seen in a while
Paddington 1&2 rule!

i feel like you should do this for the newer christoper robin movie I think its very interesting. Also love ur videos
Worst thing about modern day slapstick is something coined by Nostalgia Critic years ago.
"Movement Porn"
When the slapstick or physical comedy is too fluid and smooth designed only to pacify or hypnotise the viewer.
Paddington just barely rises above that.
Great video
Spoilers:
One of my favorite parts of the 1st movie is when Henry says “What, you wanna call him Ketchup? Ketchup the Bear?”
Another favorite is when Henry dresses up like a lady and he accidentally shoves Paddington’s sandwich through a tube.
Paddington IS an "illegal" immigrant and I think that's beautiful
The only problem I had was the end. It made no sense.
❤️
Yes, I am a bear
