    Dan and I took a ride to see all the new skinnies on a trail called Twisted Sister at Mt Penn in Reading PA. The difficulty level ranged from beginner to expert, including one that was over 30 ft long, 3 ft off the ground, with a high consequence teeter totter built in.
    I’m fairly comfortable riding skinnies but Dan was less confident. This gave us a unique opportunity to talk about our approach and mindset when tackling these features. I also provide a few tips and tricks that I use when riding skinnies. If you have any additional tips please leave them in the comments below.
    Huge shout out to Dane and Fred for building and maintaining these awesome features!
    ADDITIONAL INFO:
    Twisted Sister is labeled Green on Trailforks, however the skinnies range from easy to difficult, so proceed with caution when attempting them and use common sense.

    I never ride skinnies. There are no skinnies in Portugal, so I might build one in my backyard so you guys can see how bad am I at it.

      OMG right?!?! It's a feature I've ridden before on the full sus, but that day I was on the fat bike and those big tires bounced me off line. So glad I got away with that one without injury, lol.

      @brianhely3910 4 месяца назад +2

      That’s another skill, ability to save or fall, I know you’ve discussed it, but I think it’s related to skinnies too, basically creating a precise steering vector outta nothing

    I think my biggest problem with skinnies is that I stay seated thinking I'll be more stable, but your case for standing is good and I should give that a go... I don't sit for a track stand so makes sense.

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  4 месяца назад +1

      Love it Tom. If you try it let me know how it goes. If you feel too loose try feathering the back brake a little to apply a little tension.

    • @TrailTales
      @TrailTales 4 месяца назад +2

      Another little tip is to "drag your brakes" while on a skinny... Helps "stand the bike up" if that makes sense?

    Nice one lads... And you're right Sage... These kinds of "random" features (like skinnies) aren't as common as they should be. Mind you... A SOLID tech trail isn't as common as it should be either. So when people watch tech vids, they often times "miss" the difficulty of them (The "GoPro effect" doesn't do much to help this situation either)... But it is what it is I suppose... :D

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes on both counts, good points Phil. Most new trails that are being constructed are machine built flow these days (which is awesome), but I wish builders would also consider old school tech as well.

    • @TrailTales
      @TrailTales 4 месяца назад +1

      @@TrailSage Yeah... That's where we're really lucky here. We have SO MUCH in the line of natural/Steep/Tech and very little "built"...

  • @splooshmtb
    @splooshmtb 4 месяца назад +3

    This was insightful! I hate skinnies for the most part, but when I commit to them, I find that I'm actually pretty capable and able to do most higher difficulty ones. I just feel the risk to reward doesn't quite add up for me, failing means anything from bent rotors, broken derailleur or worse LOL 😂. Sage I had no idea you're scared of heights... as a mountain biker?!

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  4 месяца назад +2

      I totally understand that Zane. The risk/reward is a huge factor for sure. I find the high of accomplishing the difficult ones too great to pass up, lol. And yes, I'm deathly afraid of heights. I constantly force myself into situations I'm uncomfortable with because I hate being governed by my fears.
