    Hey George loving your banana harvest videos. You have inspired me to grow Bananas too in Melbourne, if you don’t mind, what variety Banana did you harvest in this video?

      I think it's a Goldfinger variety. I lost most of the banana labels. I'm glad to have inspired you!

    Great banana harvest George! The weather looks lovely there too. Much better than where I am right now lol 😂. Only 17°C and raining but only down to 14°C at night.

      @@RealLifeFruitopia haha, thanks. I’m actually in Sydney right now and it’s almost the same as where I’m from in the UK lol 😂. We are heading to Queensland next, so hopefully it will be a bit warmer up there 🤞

    Are the fruit bats in your area the same huge type that I've seen in Sydney George or are they a smaller species ?

    Hiya, great pointer regarding fig tree. I have to ask a silly question, will fig tree roots be damaging for retaining wall or fence post as well? Thanks for cool banana video...

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it will. Figs are notorious for their invasive roots.

    Hi George, Ive seen your cherimoyas in your other videos do you need hand pollination for fruit set or are they self fruitful from native pollinators?

      and what is favourite tasting cherimoya variety?

      Self pollinating but hand pollinating helps to get an earlier fruit set.

    I bought a Lady Finger with Cool Bananas on the label, supposed to handle cold weather better, have you checked that range out?
    Winters are mild here, apart from that the frost. Days will be in the late teens, early 20s, but we can get -5 at night.

      Most of my bananas are the Cool Bananas label purchased from Burnings. -5C will damage them unless in a protected corner.

      @@RealLifeFruitopia I thought you were probably on it, but with your garden, I wouldn't have been surprised if you were successful with regular varieties! 🙂👍
      It's in a very sheltered area where I keep my tropicals, but I planted it in the ground. There's probably not really enough room, I'll chop the tree that shelters the area as it grows. More than one year's bananas, I'm after the pups.

    I remember when i was small my mother will cook this banana. Its delicious. She will steam or boil or makes banana fritters or fried banana. The best is when she slice the rippen banan into a pot. Add thick coconut milk. A few dried anchovies. A tumeric leaf. A pinch of salt. Simmer until the banana is boiled soft in the coconut milk. We will eat that with rice. Ooooo how good it taste

    You grow banana sucessfully. It's great! At the time you havest your banana now, mine is at the stage of finishing setting fruit. So it will confront winter in the south east of Australia. It is not a good time to have fruit. I dont know how to control flowering time for banana. It happens every year. Last year the fruit went through winter with the size of fingers and rotted all in Spring. Can you share some experiences that is important to grow banana treee sucessfully. How many times to fertilize a year and when to do it . Many thanks.

      You're correct regarding flowering time, but after a few years, banana corms are established enough to give perfectly edible fruit in spring.
