About this Album:
Born in 1681, Georg Philip Telemann would inevitably suffer from comparisons with one of the towering figures of western Classical music, born just four years later: Johann Sebastian Bach. Although after his death Telemann may have been constantly cast into the Leipzig composer’s shadow, during his lifetime he was exalted as Bach’s equal and was considered one of the greatest German composers of the early 18th century. Certainly, the size of his output compares very favourably with Bach’s; Telemann was also a highly productive composer, writing over 3,000 works during his lifetime (although not all have survived). Despite his popularity falling away in the 19th century, today Telemann is almost as highly regarded as he was in his own lifetime - the large number of new recordings on this edition pays tribute to the flurry of interest that has grown around the composer Telemann over the past 30 years. After starting his career in Leipzig, Telemann became Kapellmeister in Sorau (now Żary in Poland), where by his own estimation he wrote over 200 overtures, imbued with the Polish and French influences of the court that surrounded him. The cornerstone of his output, many of these diverse overtures make up a large part of this disc. Telemann then moved first to Eisenach, in central Germany, followed by Frankfurt, his fame steadily increasing along with his output. Among his new compositions were church cantatas, psalms and other sacred works, as well as instrumental music; he became known for his concertos in the French style, which he valued above the Italian style that was more popular at the time. It was in Frankfurt that he began to write concertos for various different instruments, many of which are to be found in this edition.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this detailed lineup of the GREAT man's works ~ it's mosttt helpful!! :)))
@@johanelpro5462 Eso, primero siempre dando las gracias por el aporte... Como debe de ser...
Classical music has the ability to convey a wide range of emotions without the need for lyrics. I can feel the passion, happiness, and even sadness through this music.
It certainly is powerfully emotive and thus creative in the sensational realm. It cannot quite produce reasonable thoughts, I think, but it at times it seems close to communicated brain waves.
anger too
I love the baroque period of music, especially small ensembles; sonatas, suites, trios, quartets, and most especially if it is in the melancholy minor chord! Is there happiness in sadness? I think so. 8+ hours of Telemann is a gift of unimaginable greatness! Thanks much X 8!
hermosa reflexión!!!!!! comparto plenamente tu vivencia...gracias
El Barroco es lo máximo.
I love Telemann as much as Bach and Albinoni. Beautiful Music!
Девять часов музыки Телемана, чистое золото. Спасибо.
I have revered Telemann for over 50 years--since I was age 15. I am here to add that the opening piece of his Tafelmusik is unusually like Telemann's mainstream: It requires a sensitivity to subtlety and delicacy of harmony/orchestration which performance/recording after performance has failed to realize. And now, at last: I must applaud! (My spirit had given up.) The music is done artistic justice here, disclosing the depth of its mastery. "Telemann is a subtle artist, whose profundities are not revealed to dullards" [Sir Arthur Hutchings, paraphrased]. Yes.
I love baroque music, but I'm new to the fine tunings of it. I appreciate it from somewhere deep inside me. I will close my eyes and listen...hearing every note of the different voices that contribute to the story. I love your appraisal of this music.
@@elizabethanderson8707 I have listened to Bach, Handel all my life and am only now discovering Telemann. I could not have expressed it better than you, such good performances let us hear each voice. And yes, something inside resonates with this music, it is meticulously written without the emotion of Romantic music, like sacred geometry.
my favorite is " der getreue muzik meister "
I'm a dullard, I confess--but I'm trying!
Le genie est la ! Il a compose plus de 6000 oeuvres et je redécouvre avec plaisir sa musique. Baroque et brilliant ! J ai ecoute beaucoup de musique de chambre...
The Baroque era was the best. Claudio Monteverdi, George Frideric Handel, Georg Philip Telemann, Tomaso Albinoni, Jean- Baptiste Lully, and of course Johann Sebastian Bach.
I am among like minded friends...
Did you just forget to mention Vivaldi lol....?

8 heures de Telemann quel bonheur, mille mercis
Always when I listen to Telemann´s chamber works, I have the same sensation I get when listening to J.S.Bach´s sacred works, that is being in touch with something divine, music that germinates from something beyond the human mind. It´s like the sanctity of the secular music, treated with such taste, profundity, respect for the instruments, extremely witty. No wonder both men were so close, and although they met few times, they always had each other in mind and even got to be "family" (C.Ph.Bach was his grandson). Despite how prolific he was, you never get the sensation of hearing something over and over, which you can experience with other composers. It´s a composer to admire, that deserves to be in better consideration in concert halls than it is today.
@Pat Bens No conflict surely. Everything comes from the Divine which includes Ages or Reason or anything else.

This has helped me through painful sessions at the dentist. He pops in the Novocain, I pop on my headphones with Telemann, and I am gone. Thank you.
Telemann was played a lot on the radio when I was growing up.
Which period was that?
Odniesienie do Boga, poglebianie o polska, francuska kulture, autentyczna iskra Boża i sprzyjajace okklicznosci, to wszystko ubogacilo tego muzyka. Dobro, zawsze wzbogaca. Chwala Panu, za takiego mistrza..
Telemann is a super composer and one of the best composers of Baroque period. . That's all.
Thank you all for compiling this beautiful music collection!
Ваш канал великолепен! И это большой труд, много усилий!
Огромная благодарность!
He should be as famous as Bach and Handel, given that they were contemporaries, and he wrote almost as much music as both of them put together.
Thank you Telemann, thank you Germany for such an extraordinary composer!
Thanks be to God in the Highest for endowing this grace and glory to His crowning glory...mankind! Praise Be to God our Lord, who also put in the mind of man to express this magnificent and wondrous music!

Inmaculado poético lírico etc etc
nah.....the whole credit goes to Georg Philip Telemann, his hard work, his skill, his talent, etc.
Telemann was one of the most prolific composer of all time.
H was the German Duke Ellington.
Telemann is actually the most prolific musician of all time, least that is known so far
The most prolific.
David from London
He wrote about 3,600 pieces, while JSB wrote about 2,000 pieces, sadly half of them have vanished.

does that matter ?
I'm so happy my speakers at work were fixed!! :'-) Being able to listen to this kind of beautiful music all day long really helps the soul.
I was desperate for my classical music - waiting for my speakers to be fixed too! Battling post-operative depression (all clearly happens on the op table, otherwise animals wouldn't get it too). Been Telemann for hours now. May God (the Big) bless us all.

There is no such thing as who was the greatest composer. Telemann, Bach or Handel, they were all extraordinary men gifted with the blessings of music. Each of their own, separate styles and different ways and yet all very passionate and very moving. It's amazing that most their works have survived 2 World Wars and have been preserved, and it's up to our modern generation to express their music and keep for future generations to come. All the above men mentioned were all men of faith and their faith in Almighty God and in the Lord is a testimony to their love and mastery to the art of what we call the blessed gift of God from Himself, Music.
Правильно!

Georg Telemann is my go-to study and work music, works like magic for me. Thanks for sharing!!
Likewise
Arguably the most prolific composer ever, with more than 3 000 works. Admired by Bach and Handel. And he was self-taught in music. What a Genius.
More
I just bought this set as a birthday gift to myself. Fabulous music! The oboe concertos are particularly good.
Telemann is so under-rated.
Couldn't agree more, his Tafelmusik is some of the finest instrumental Baroque I've ever heard

I Very recently discovered Telemann. So genious like Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and etc. Barroco is that pleasure fountain always making gold tô our senses.
What majestic beauty, timeless. My heart ❤️ is singing. GDs music no doubt. What a treat.
Telemann has a folkish side to him that I love to hear percolating through..
For every Soprano flute 101 Telemann is a must!
Si, se le valora...
I love Baroque for the sound of the harpsichord. What a great instrument now completely forgotten.
Fortunately, it's not as forgotten now as it used to be :) but plenty of other instruments have yet to be rediscovered
Don't worry my friend I make music and will do my best to keep it alive!

Grandioso Telemann.
Thank you for this compilation! Telemann was an outstanding composer who does not get his due, despite being revered throughout Europe during his day. Friends with Bach, Handel, and others, Telemann also helped empower musicians to gain intellectual control over their music. I love his Fantasias for keyboard, his recorder works, and his Concertos.
His oboe and trumpet concertos are superb!!
He wasn't revered throughout Europe, just popular in Germany. His music was unknown in Italy, Spain, England, and only became known in France when he went there and published flute quartets.
..and seldom acknowledged as a composer of opera.... in contrast to his provincial contemporary Bach who wrote none .
better than any antidepressant, so well balanced, warm and lively

Telemann was great, in fact so great that Bach sent one of his incredibly talented sons all the way to Hamburg to study under him.
starting at about 4:55:05, turn up the volume so you can hear the oboes slapping their keys while they're getting after it! Good stuff!

Telemann died in 1767 at the age of 86, while life expectancy was 26 years! Good listening and long life!
Yes Telemann seems to have brought the great Baroque era to an end .
And his wife left him with about a dozen kids!
That's a fallacy invented by moderns to justify their conception of "progress".
In pre-modern society, mortality rate among infants was quite high. So what the moderns did is draw the average in order to came up with the 30 years of life figure. In reality, if you survived past infancy you were likely to reach old age.

Teşekkürler (Thank You). Türkiye'den selamlar (Greetings from Turkey).
Bach's son CPE was one of Telemann's students. CPE later became Mozart's godfather.
( Bach's other son JC kicked off the classical period as he founded the Vienna school (Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, etc.)). It's all connected and Telemann was one important cornerstone.
Absolutely right. Telemann was revered throughout Europe and also responsible for helping musicians gain financial and intellectual control over their compositions. Also, CPE Bach was Telemann's godson, too.
@Arigato Cat Yes, Bach did name CPE after his good friend Telemann.
It wasn't a 'school', as such; more like a musical shift. It was almost a century from Haydn's birth (1732) to Beethoven's death (1827), with Mozart in the middle (1756-1791) and there is no evidence that the three were ever in the same place at the same time. At the peak of Beethoven's fame, Haydn was dead (1809) and Mozart long dead.
It is also worth remembering that many lesser composers, famous in their day, were writing in the new classical style by about 1760.
But, yes: you are right. The early classical works have an eerie baroque flavour. Many composers kept the harpsichord resolutely for decades.
CPE Bach was not Mozart's godfather. Telemann was CPE Bach's godfather. JC Bach didn't start the classical period or start the Viennese school, he was a galant style composer, as were most other composers of his generation, and was influenced primarily by Neapolitan opera and Giovanni Battista Sammartini. The Italian galant and Neapolitan opera styles was the basis for the classical style. The Viennese school began with Austrian composers such as Holzbauer, Wagenseil and Monn, who were galant style composers, and Haydn, who was influenced by them.
@@yolhanson The musical style of the 1750's and 60's was the galant style which was influenced by Neapolitan comic opera. It wasn't quite classical music, which refers to a more mature and substantial style that involves a synthesis of galant and Neapolitan opera and opera seria styles with polyphony.
