Thank you for this nostalgic stroll down memory lane. I had this, photon, and captain power and was obsessed with them. Never knew anyone else that had them, so I never got to really play. Mom was 23 at the time these came out and got them for me for Christmas. I also had the white rifle looking gun and the star helmet. I didn’t know it then but she probably had to work weeks to buy them for me as a single mom back then. Needless to say she gave me an amazing childhood. Thanks again! 🤙🏻
These were on clearance at Kaybee around 1988. We saw a huge pile of them on display and they were finally cheap enough for my parents to buy my brother and I a set. I think they were only $10 at that point which was a massive discount.
LAZER TAG....i remember that christmas as soon as we opened it my brother and I ran outside and started shooting each other...it was a warm day and I can't believe I remember that..awesome channel bro
I still remember the hype surrounding this toy back in '86. All department stores in my area were completely sold out and offering rainchecks. Like Michael mentioned, it really did feel like the "future" was finally delivered to us to play with. I remember thinking Worlds of Wonder was so innovative with Lazer Tag and Teddy Ruxpin.
Laser Tag, and the similar toys that followed, seemed inspired by the South Bend Phasers from 1979. The Star Bird Avenger and Intruder also used this technology. Tex (and Kirby is just checking out his latest gift from Daddy)
I remember Laser Tag was my first foyer into electronics repair. My friend Shane Coleman had a gun that didn't work. All I had to do was re-solder on the positive wire onto the board from the batteries. It was the worst soldering I have ever done. But it worked!
loved the unboxing...maybe next we could see a demo or see som action of that laser tag gun?? i remembered seeing the tv ads and always wanting to buy one, but back then it was pretty expensive in my country
sadly Lazer Tag is gone just like the original G1 Megatron is gone. With the anti gun movement in America, corporations and politicians fear any citizen having even a representation of a gun. For example another toy you won't see ever again is light/zapper guns that resemble six shooters of real guns. Society is way oversensitive and I miss the 80's because people just went out and did what they liked or business wise made what people wanted.
All the Lazer Tag stuff in the 90's were crap. The ones I got stopped working within a week. I don't know why, no matter how new the batteries were, they just would not work after you played the first few games. We got three different sets that did the same thing before giving up. Before the set brokes I kept accidently shooting myself because the lazer would bounce of of mirrors and walls and things.
I remember this system. Not so fond memories, because no one in my neighborhood had a matching set. The pistol the "StarLyte" itself was cool looking, but rather bulky in a pre-teen's hands. The sensor/target I had, had a very limited range (about 3/4th's of the manufacturer's stated range, & in some cases I've heard, about HALF), & the 'StarBase' larger target didn't do as well either. The helmets were ill-fitting & the so-called chin-strap was too short. If you got one with a strap, that is. Some televisions with then-IR remote channel changers were on the same IR frequency as the pistols, & sometimes made the TVs turn on & change channels when fired at. The *ultimate* prize was the rifle version of the StarLyte. The black quickly vanished from shelves (about the time of the unfortunate shooting incident) & quickly replaced by the all-white with red trim version. The black was far more durable than the white; the extending shoulder-stock on the white version tended to break easily if pulled too hard. More often, if inquiries were made to replace or repair the rifle, no reply or a simple form-letter stating basically "Just Buy A New One While Supplies Last" was they typical response. These days, if you find an intact, functional white rifle, you're 'HOLY-CARP-YOU-FOUND-ONE-IT'S-LIKE-FINDING-GOD'S-INSTRUCTION-MANUAL-TO-THE-SPHINX!!!" type of luck. Finding an intact functioning black rifle? Yeah, & I have some beachfront property on Lemuria I can sell you too. Cheap.
"If you were a trust fund baby not allowed to have friends." Or if you didn't live around many kids in your age range and playing with others outside of school was a rare thing. I got Lazer Tag Christmas 1986. It definitely had the better design, along with everything else Worlds of Wonder put out; remember the Class Act school equipment? I got out my Lazer Tag a few years ago and it was still working. I still keep it in the original box and styrofoam.

Without question, the toy I wanted the most. Played with it quite a bit. Even got some exercise! Thanks for the great video!
What a blast from the past--Never had these either
Such a sleek and wonderful design. When i think of a robust energy pistol the Starlight pistol is what comes to mind.

I still have 3 of them MIB from when I was a kid. I will have to pull them out again and look at them.

Our folks went all out w my brothers' and my love for lazer tag. We had several handguns, the hats, silver vests, the "star base" drone, the rifles.
A very cool acquisition!
Purchased one from ebay about a month ago, great vintage item.

Absolutely! Best laser pistol design ever. Where can I find a copy of the blueprints?
Those boxes are incredible! Apple should take notes.

***** I like to thank you again for your nice reviews. And the starlights were great looking. And the anime heroine Jamie was cute.
Agreed. "Lazer Tag" sounds better than "Infra-Red Strobe Sensor" Tag.

I was very disappointed as a kid that there wasn't any beams of light shooting out of them. The helmets were cool .
I had the helmet and everything. OMG.
Where are the RIFLES!?!?!? They were awesome! I had two. Except they came only in white, sadly.

Photon kicks Lazer Tag in the teeth.
YouthFreedomFighters The gun was way cooler and sounded dope.
Talks about a kid getting gunned down and immediately says "They did a bang up job with it." Too soon, man, Too soon.. ; }
There is a new laser tag game but it's overpriced and too gimmicky
Nerf is way cooler than Laser Tag ever was, when you consider the accuracy factor and the variety of weapons.
too bad nobody can play lazer tag in their backyards without getting shot at by police.
I actually don't remember these. They look like a lot of fun, though. Thanks for the great review!!
