There doesn't appear to be alpha access on the website anymore, but they do have a closed beta starting in a week (July 29). Apparently the game will move from closed beta on the 29th to Steam early access and then ultimately to final release.
Yo Scott, I'm sure you've told this several times to numerous people, but what sort of powerhouse PC do you have? Maybe list it in the channel description to not have to tell it again :o
Best thing about this game is in multiplayer you can get to sol, but u need a guide as it's a long way and you can't jump there. Good thing about going there is the best weapons and stuff is there. Ask someone in multiplayer to take you. You need a lot of fuel. Sometimes ppl will rescue you if you try to get there without the right ship (ship that can carry enough fuel).
Scott, I have a tiny little nitpick, just a small technicality. Procedural generation and permadeath does not automaticaly put a game into the "Roguelike" genre. The more precise definition would be: "a space sim(ish?) shooter with some elements from the roguelike genre". Roguelike-like and roguelite is also acceptable but not an entirely precise definition as well.
***** I think FTL has created a new genre of it's own. Out There, Renowned Explorers and Seaworthy are examples of such games. I don't think there's a name for this genre yet but I'm ready to go with adventure-strategy or something along these lines. And yes, roguelike-like is indeed a silly name, but at least it gets the point across.
+Scott Manley Have you considered playing "adorable space adventures" on wii u ? It's a game where you solve puzzles and explore a planter and it looks beautiful!
Mmm, Freelancer. Only downside is that there's nothing else to do beyond the filler missions of the story line. Something that's been haunting me for nearly a decade of what could even be done to add more replay-ability?
PantsuMann Right, but once the main story is done, how much replay-ability is there in multiplayer? Going out to kill a group of random raiders, buy ships, trade some goods, and that's it? It needs more meat on the bone beyond the story and repeat filler.
So all up, those mouse controls? What did you end up thinking of them compared to say Freelander? I guess when I sat down to watch this - the fact you were using the mouse greatly reminded me of it, especially with my surprise at how well they worked there.
Scott you should check out Vendetta Online. It's a space MMO that has been out longer than EvE and it has Newtonian physics and full twitch combat. It does take a bit of time and practice to get good at pvp, but there is really nothing else like it.
Vendetta shipped to stores on Nov 1 2004, however it was online and playable for a long time before that as an engine demo game. There are people who have been playing since before EvE appeared that still play today.
Did you just not want to replace your Energized Boost, or did you not realise you could use A/D to choose between replacing the Shield Generator or that ?
Scott you keep dismantling without checking on the 2nd gear slot that's not shield...I think Stealth might be more potentially more useful than energized boost? Oh well...
That is one of the reasons I backed this game. Some zones looks like they were taken directly from Freelancer and given a HD makeover. But unfortunately it is not the same kind of game.
Scott Manley Hopefully it does in the future. It looks like it'd work like an actual arcade game if paired with a fairly simple flightstick like a T-flight HOTAS. Immersion Ho!
Scott Manley I've played the mobile versions. They are pretty shallow indeed. But if you play the PC version expecting a prettier mobile game, its not bad.
It is one of the least fascinating Space sims on PC but the most interesting one on mobile. lol Some gameplay mechanics were good but It's indeed Shallow.
yeah, someone obviously hasn't read any sci fi books :P I'd say Terran is more useful than cliche since it's been used so much, everyone knows what it means
+moonasha As someone who recently turned 40 and is a sci-fi fan, I will now quote George Costanza (not a sci-fi character, I know): "I am aware." I guess I just prefer 'Human', possibly 'Earthling'. 'Terran' is okay, I guess. Haha
mrpositronia earthling sounds like something an alien would say lol. And what if a human comes from a Mars colony? You probably already know, but Terra is just a Latin word for Earth, Terran makes perfect sense for someone from Earth
I don't think you can fly into the star. the way it works is that each time you warp, you enter a stage with a limited allowed area of travel (with still an impressively beautiful amount of discovery). it's more like an Arcade than a simulation, but you can find "gravitational anomaly's" and stuff like that.
Maybe it's just because I'm watching a video instead of playing but it looks hard to tell how far away things are. I guess that's the point of it being VR?
Thats a persistent and kind of obvious issue with all 3D games rendered to 2D displays ... if you pay attention its almost impossible to judge distance and scale in conventional 3D games.
No, it's not. Most people do not have joysticks, so the very first thing you make compatible is keyboard and mouse. This has been explained so, so many times, it's now getting a bit old.
+TheDarkZenith Dude at least think a little before posting ....... Just because most people do not have sticks its good reason to not INCLUDE a sticks option ... when anyone with a clue and willingness to really control their ships understands joysticks rule flight games ..... really thats some biased logic right there son. next you'll be telling us its ok to make driving games without steering wheel support. I even used an X-box pad for Galaxy on fire .... hugely improved control. Have the devs even confirmed stick support in the future ?? ....... I suspect not being from the dev background they are from. If its gets no stick support it consigns itself to the clunky arcade side of space games .. bleh
WOW so many freelancer fanbois with the "OMG its looks sexy and accessible .... must be a freelancer clone" LMFAO next you guys will be telling us all how a fire truck and an ambulance are the same because they both have sirens and a wheel at each corner ..... lol
It's an FPS re-imagining of FTL. I can get behind this.
#itwillcomeoutbeforeSC
Backed this game on Kickstarter, will be most fun to try it once it comes out.
It looks very much like Galaxy on fire... Those guys can make beautiful environments and spaceships.
"I just know I am in a spaceship and am blowing things up all the time." - Scott Manley
Well sh*t. I'm sold!
hi scott! love the videos. good space games are great and i love that you play them
Galaxy On Fire is one of my favorite mobile games ever. I've know about Everspace for a while and it's nice to see it's coming together
This game has so many features that are straight from GoF2
This is basically what I've been wanting for so long 6 DOF roguelike space shooter and VR is a bonus if it supports Vive.
That look amazingly Freelancer.
My dream space game is pretty much these controls combined with x3
Really enjoyed the video, thank you. Can't wait for beta.

Yo Scott,
I'm sure you've told this several times to numerous people, but what sort of powerhouse PC do you have?

The combat and controlls remind me of Freelancer :D What a game!
Now I want to play it again xD
I love GoF2. One of the best mobile games out there IMO!
Is there stations to do ck at or other NPCs to interact with, planets or planetary outposts to dock at...etc?
No there are stations you fly to an can trade wit, no docking or landing right now.

Have you considered playing "adorable space adventures" on wii u ? It's a game where you solve puzzles and explore a planter and it looks beautiful!
they need games like this on consoles
On a scale 1 to Freelancer, how good is this game?
Mmm, Freelancer. Only downside is that there's nothing else to do beyond the filler missions of the story line. Something that's been haunting me for nearly a decade of what could even be done to add more replay-ability?
I hope there will be a really good story and big universe like in Freelancer. Would love to play this if it was any near the Freelancer Universe :)
PantsuMann Right, but once the main story is done, how much replay-ability is there in multiplayer? Going out to kill a group of random raiders, buy ships, trade some goods, and that's it? It needs more meat on the bone beyond the story and repeat filler.
I dunno. I have like 700 hours in singleplayer in the old Freelancer lol.
+PantsuMann I rate this game 'X'
So it is like ftl first person
That is so friggin' cool looking. I'm definitely looking forward to this. I already bought No Man's Sky.
This is more of a straight up space shooter than a simulator.
space sims are back baby
So all up, those mouse controls? What did you end up thinking of them compared to say Freelander? I guess when I sat down to watch this - the fact you were using the mouse greatly reminded me of it, especially with my surprise at how well they worked there.
it plays exactly like freelancer.
That, that can be considered news to my ears. Going to be looking forward to watching this one mature!
Thanks for the preview, is there any way to turn off the fule consumtion? like in options?
It reminds me of an old game Starmageddon 2
Still waiting for the ultimate Ringworld sim to be made.
This is but 1 of the superior space novels just waiting to be played.
:>)
Hey Scott, you planning on playing No Man's Sky in August?
Galaxy on Fire is great. I have all the downloadable content for it.
FYI. This Kickstarter did succeed. I backed it and I know for certain the goal was reached.
Pretty sure the kickstarter succeeded. That's how I got my key.
+Scott Manley Are you gonna play No Man's Sky?
Almost like FTL. Almost, but not even close.
Did you just not want to replace your Energized Boost, or did you not realise you could use A/D to choose between replacing the Shield Generator or that ?
I can see myself playing this if they include a story on it.
me too. Visually (cockpit for example) it reminds me a bit of Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos
do you still play much eve online scott?
Is this similar to Strike Suit Zero? (obviously without thee mech suit)
Feels like Colony Wars on PS1.
mind you this is NOT a critique of the game. it looks cool, but it does look like a FTL Elite dangerous editition
Scott you keep dismantling without checking on the 2nd gear slot that's not shield...I think Stealth might be more potentially more useful than energized boost? Oh well...
Come on please, Have you ever played Allegiance? it's an epic space game.. I'v asked multiple times but it always gets lost...
It'd be nice if they added different kinds of stars.
FTL in 3D basically
Excuse me Scott I can't help but ask you to play no man's sky, I'm sure you'd like it. Thx for all your content😁
Looks like Freelancer Remake
That is one of the reasons I backed this game. Some zones looks like they were taken directly from Freelancer and given a HD makeover.
But unfortunately it is not the same kind of game.
Does it work with a flightstick (or two)?
No configurable controls at this time.
Scott Manley Hopefully it does in the future. It looks like it'd work like an actual arcade game if paired with a fairly simple flightstick like a T-flight HOTAS. Immersion Ho!
kinda reminds me of Freelancer.
So this is FTL with fps War Thunder action?
Galaxy on fire has been ported to PC, I believe it's on steam.
I actually own it as part of a bundle, never really played it, it was a bit shallow after the initial campaign intro.
I picked it up this last Steam sale cant wait to play it.
+boomersooner413 it's good, I've played through the entire game and loved it.
Scott Manley
I've played the mobile versions. They are pretty shallow indeed. But if you play the PC version expecting a prettier mobile game, its not bad.
It is one of the least fascinating Space sims on PC but the most interesting one on mobile. lol
Some gameplay mechanics were good but It's indeed Shallow.
Nice
Can't see why the kickstarter was not successful
it was successful.. dunno why he said it: www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockfishgames/everspace €420,252
pledged of €225,000 goal
It was successful. Maybe it was only their second one that succeeded? All I know is that I got my key through kickstarter.
I think I confused it with Starfighter Inc. which failed.
Star Conflict XD
Why haven't you gotten verified yet?
this game looks awesome, too bad it seems so limited :( should've kept some parts of galaxy on fire 2
dark star one -2?
I don't see it on steam.
Эта игра почти заставила продать меня почку на новый компьютер...
Terran, that's an original name. it looks like the X series to, with it's background artwork.
Terran predates the X series of games by several decades.
yeah, someone obviously hasn't read any sci fi books :P I'd say Terran is more useful than cliche since it's been used so much, everyone knows what it means
+moonasha As someone who recently turned 40 and is a sci-fi fan, I will now quote George Costanza (not a sci-fi character, I know): "I am aware." I guess I just prefer 'Human', possibly 'Earthling'. 'Terran' is okay, I guess. Haha

I really like the X series, AP especially. Rebirth is garbage though.
So what happens if you fly into the star?
I don't think you can fly into the star. the way it works is that each time you warp, you enter a stage with a limited allowed area of travel (with still an impressively beautiful amount of discovery). it's more like an Arcade than a simulation, but you can find "gravitational anomaly's" and stuff like that.
The whole universe bends and wobbles (like the skyscraper in Matrix) as you bounce off the texture map :P
Maybe it's just because I'm watching a video instead of playing but it looks hard to tell how far away things are.
I guess that's the point of it being VR?
I have no idea of the scale of those enemy ships right now.
Thats a persistent and kind of obvious issue with all 3D games rendered to 2D displays ... if you pay attention its almost impossible to judge distance and scale in conventional 3D games.
17:00 nonononnononononononononononoo
6DOF and no joystick support. That is a joke. It's the very first thing you do!
No, it's not. Most people do not have joysticks, so the very first thing you make compatible is keyboard and mouse. This has been explained so, so many times, it's now getting a bit old.

I just wanted to say this game is a full copy of Freelancer, but many people already said this
It's nothing like freelancer, the control scheme is much better and the environments are properly 3d.
This doesn't look like Rogue to me ...
hi
It's not like rogue.
WOW so many freelancer fanbois with the "OMG its looks sexy and accessible .... must be a freelancer clone" LMFAO
next you guys will be telling us all how a fire truck and an ambulance are the same because they both have sirens and a wheel at each corner ..... lol
House of the Dying Sun was a disappointment and this doesn't look like it has any depth either.
