Army tactics, once modified for airsoft's differences (higher ammo counts, much shorter distances, more bravery) work quite well in outdoor fields, but aren't very good for indoor stuff. Peeling, pepperpotting, suppressing, arcs, all round defence, stock phrases, all useful and usable. In a game where grenades kill everyone in a room as a rule knowing how to stack a door and buttonhook through it isn't nearly as useful.

@@robertjohnson5106 I imagine that's because you went about it in an extremely belligerent and arrogant way. We've also not said the same thing: in my experience the tactics I was taught for FIBUA translate poorly to Airsoft, you've suggested "all" tactics taught by the military work just fine. Just watched your video. 100% agree with you , however, without that military background, my opinion is that we as ex soldiers wouldn't have that tactical awareness when going into a cqb scenario. Even in a rural, woodland, etc, I'd stay motionless to gain awareness, and I'd hear people crashing through the bush , as we'd ghost walk and be more aware of my surroundings. I do think vetrans have a better advantage in airsoft, especially in defending a position where you can advise your team the best place to set up a defensive position. The biggest thing i love about airsoft is that everyone comes home alive after the day is over. Keep up the good work m8.

    "I'm up! He see's me! I'm down!"
Most of my CQB Clearing training gets me trades or flat out shot on an indoor field.
Firing from outside the threshold is infinitely better than rushing in and clearing.
    Buttonhooks = trades.
Squared up weapon presentations (plates toward enemy) = easy target, always getting hit.
Running the rabbit seems to work perfectly, though!
Holding opposing corners seems to work, too (think clearing a T shaped intersection).
I've been loving playing indoors, has really upped my cqb game since being out of the service.

the peeking technique you bring up is pretty much how competitive airsoft/speedsoft is played (Valiant Airsoft for a good example), intel gathering and gunfights both being done with lots of quick peeks. what i find most interesting about this topic is that iirc Garand Thumb was pretty much opposite on his opinions, praising airsoft for practicing proper CQC and bringing up concerns over open/woodland fighting due to the limited range and travel-time of BBs. Guess at the end of the day its all about mindset, are you there to LARP/practice real-steel techniques or are you there to be good at airsoft?

You engineering the reverse pop shot is a game changer in airsoft CQB for sure!
Aggressive plays for me is invaluable in airsoft, the moment you apply pressure to the situation and push offense you put them immediately on the back foot, in most cases making it impossible for them to get a foot hold. Use what you can to your advantage use the force multipliers when making the play, give them more things to worry about.

The speedqb guys have it pretty much figured out for airsoft CQB. I think another difference is just the delay of a BB hitting a person means you can often move freely between cover more often than you should be able to, when I'm playing I'm constantly thinking about how far the player aiming at me is and how long I've roughly got to peak out or move, I think that mindset would be reversed in the military where peaking or moving out of cover could result in being instantly hit. You also can't supress a position properly because they always have the opportunity to peak out and get a few shots off if it's far enough away.

But also going forward and taking Fire positions, switching positions. We've used this in the field with 4 ppl and we end up pushing the enemy team back into the spawn. To the point where the The marshalls had to step in and had to send us away because they couldn't exit the spawn ^^.

Former Kiwi Infantry, used to work with a bloke who went on to be a Colour Serjeant in the Rifles coincidentally. Fire and maneuver with suppressing fire in the open all works well. Taking cover and jockeying fire positions is also a big one, lost count of the number of times I've zapped people who kept popping out of the same point almost to a rhythm and ended up popping out straight into a BB to the face. Working in a team I've found using the initial shake out for a corridor BCD and moving into a drake shoot/cover shoot can be wickedly effective, especially at night before NVE started to become so prevalent. CQB is pretty much as you said, we don't have frame charges or someone putting an 84mm into the back end of the building at H minus 4 and all the stacking and button hooking corners is easily counteracted by the one pimply kid with a G&G covering the only way into the room from a dark corner. The biggest thing I see people stuff up on in CQB though is not exploiting the openings they create, once you take a couple out and break in it's so hard for them to react to quickly and before they know it you have rolled them up.
    I enjoy your channel.

Very good topic! By my expirience we do like this:
    Advancing and retreating.
If it is done as you show in video, I found thats not optimised for airsoft replicas that we use. Is you move 10m behind 1st group your range is 10m shorter wich is significan in airsoft. Insted go 10m behind 1st group you retreat in line with them and now you have same range, more firepower as team and more protection. Also, you spend less time in moving back and have only one disadvantage insted two (when 1st group moving back, 2nd stay alone in line compare to alweys 1 group is in line by your method).
Great video, keep them comming :)

I've had that too but they've updated it in 2016.
Instead of pepper backing each group straight backwards we were taught a pepper retreat peel.
So instead of running backwards we peeled back the way we came so if we came walking from on the right then we peeled back on the right then the left group would do the same but instead of saying 'MOVE' we were taught on a simple command and that was 'COVERING', that was a Indication for 2nd group to prepare and fall back peeling where they came from so then the enemy can't take us out in one go.

We reviewed and re-use the drill and found the gap between the real world and airsoft.
For the vitial difference, police always use HR (Hostage rescue) concept, ID/known a single or few suspects, thrown the less lethal/flashbang then flush into the room, confuse the suspect and try to keep everyone alive.
In airsoft world, the same technique is work but it’s cost you tons of the money for pyros, also it's only work on the opponents that not familiar in CQB.

Unfortunately at my local 'milsim' field (East Kent), few, if any, know squad tactics and the marshalls don't teach them, which is a shame as it would add an extra dimension.
I didn't stay in long enough to be taught FIBUA (not sure it was a big thing in the 80's anyway). That said, what I've read of WWII tactics is not like airsoft (and possibly the assumptions behind FIBUA training today). On the offence, go in through the roof and work down (via ceilings), clearing rooms with grenades. On the defence, boobytrap hallways and shut doors, make loopholes & rat-runs through the walls and between houses, lay alarms, furniture obstacles & barbed wire, remove sections of staircases, make sandbag barricades inside rooms... And as you say, shoot through walls and doors :)

    100% with you...
There are 2 things you can't replicate in airsoft...
    1) Fear of death. Even if the respawn is 20 km's away... people will not fear getting shot... more likely they will not call their hits. Having a live round fired at you is totally diferent of a bb hiting your wall...
    2) Boredom. Even in a long event, one can't replicate the boredom of patroling the same road, every day, for 1 month... Players are allways on a diferent state of alert, harder to suprise them... thus your problem with cqb tactics transition (I think). Regarding that, i separate cqb in 2 fases... before and after shots fired.

I think overall the tactical crossover does have some use, it’s the communication and understanding that will see a team of ex/current soldiers likely prevail. I think you’re right with the stiffness, for me, I’m robotic out of habit and very prescribed however I treat this more of a training environment rather than anything else and don’t want to start bending reality, train real fight real etc

This is great information about airsoft tactics that are different from the military and which ones work. This is really good and I think that it’s very useful and I would love to try it next time I go out, but there is something that you should check out it’s another channel, who is a American ex Soldier and the American fields here are a little different but they’re pretty good but back to this American soldier go check out his channel channel name Nikko Ortiz he does play airsoft and it would really be good to see if some of the tactics that you guys use are similar PS he reacts to Airsoft as well, but mostly does reacts to airsoft vids and also I do love these videos because they are knowledgeable and they can be also useful. Keep up the good work. I hope you have a good day.

Hey Nico, thanks for the video. I haven’t yet seen any information or tips of Forrest tactics and forest CQB where there are only thin trees, and sparse bushes as cover. Furthermore, twigs snap and reveal your location. Many times, I’m engaging enemies in front of me but get shot from my 3 or 9 from an enemies I did not see or hear. I find information gathering in forests much more difficult because you have to spot enemies in a dense forest. Moreover, how do you recon and spot ghillies and enemies camping and kept hidden, what’s the procedure on those? Please make a video or advise on how to conquer l CQBs in forests. Very much looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

That quick peek is good, but in my place, the engaging distance often too short which we might not able to dodge the shoot even with that speed
In my place, we usually do level changing with the quick peek, that increase the reaction time of the enemy players and more time for us to back in cover

one big reason why real tactics dont work on airsoft is the consequences, when speedsters do that in real life with a real gun they'll be dead on the first turn where was the enemy they shoot who's wearing armor would still be a live probably vs with airsoft, once you get hit anywhere you're done and also even if you shoot them faster first the flight time gives them time to let off a shot on you.
