Very nice tuner! My friend owned S/N 9 since he knew Marantz. The first eight units went to family and closest friends of Marantz. Take good care of it. Also I own a 1 of 4 Sequerra Model 1 tuner specially modified with switchable quartz crystal LO, switchable ultra wide IF ( for distortion measurements) and switchable display blanking for increased S/N ratio.

@Marantzguy I contacted John via DIYaudio website where he posts frequently. He says his Model 10 works great except for aging filter caps which is normal for a unit this old. He stated on one of his threads that the Model 10 is the finest piece of vintage electronics he has owned. High praise indeed!

@analogdesigner Thank you! I very much appreciate the additional Model 10 information. I am trying to keep a database of surviving units. I will add S/N 9 to it. The Sequerra Model 1 is an outstanding tuner that I would like to own someday.

thank you! This was almost a decade ago when I first got it. Very impressed with its performance. I have since replaced the filter cans with chrome plated replacements from Hayseed Hamfest due to a slight hum in the background. Works perfectly now!

@@crooner2007 what was the story behind it. How did you get it? I know Hayseed are high quality caps. I have a lot of friends in the States using them.

@@70smarantz61 I got it from someone off Audiogon. Not exactly cheap, but I've always wanted one so I pulled the trigger. The Heyseed Hamfest stuff is great. I love the look. I could have re-stuffed the cans, but the shiny chrome look really dresses up the units!

@cpgixxer Yeah, I saw that! Crazy money. I'm glad I have mine. Probably pass it on to my kid. John Curl owns a Model 10 also, and he was quoted as saying it was the finest piece of vintage tube electronics ever. I tend to agree!

@cpgixxer So did you win the thing? Went for $1325 which is not at all unreasonable. With a new glass and elbow grease it should look quite nice.

@cpgixxer Good luck! If you win it, I will be more than happy to give you pointers on how to restore it. A lot of this rust is superficial and will come right off.

Is the Marantz 10 & 10b the same? The two knobs on the outside are smaller.

It's the original Marantz tuner whose development started in 1962. This tuner belongs to the first pilot run of 100 units manufactured in late 1963 and delivered to dealers in January of 1964. It differs from the later 10b in it's use of toroids in the IF section. The chassis is also brushed chrome instead of black. It uses an extra dual Triode tube as well.

@crooner2007 Nope, highest I went was $800, 1325 was a good price, just hard to justify right now cash wise.

@crooner2007 Doubt I will, the price for these units is mental and my pockets aren't THAT deep, although I'd like to own one!
