I can't lie...this is a song I would have turned off if it came on the radio in the past...then comes The Amazing Austin Brown, and boy did he make this song his own! I think the decision to just let him run with the main vocal and keep the background subtle (and perfect vocal percussion, of course) was so smart. And yes we would all like to find a man who looks at us the way Austin looks at a camera. I know Amberly was in the studio with him while he was recording this but he has been flirting with the camera for years. Check out an older video a cover of Kenney Chesney's American Kids! Austin winking into the camera in that one did it for me!

Yes, they did several creative vids during shutdown where each member recorded vocals alone and then taped the lip-sync alone, and then the footage was merged somehow. This was one of them.

Austin and the camera have been having a love affair for years. Here he captures the very soul of a man in love, the joy, the chemistry, the passion. Percy was all passion, Bolton was an anguished man who had been "treated bad", but Austin is a very happy man explaining to his lover how in love he is. That beautiful voice is the topper. I'll leave comment about the perfect harmony and heartbeat of the bvs for another song.

and this is what I love about these guys. Tim wanted Austin to do this song. Austin wanted to show off Rob's opera skills. They are so supportive of one another.
It's amazing how often you'll see interviews with the guys and they'll be asked, "What's a song you'd really like HF to do?" and almost invariably Austin names something to show off Tim or Chance or Rob, and Tim wants to do something to show off Austin or Rob or Chance, and so on. They love each other's talents so much, there just isn't any thought of "I want to do this to show off what I can do." I think that's what makes them so successful -- they harmonize not just vocally, but relationally.
They brought Austin's girl friend in and she was standing across from him as he was singing... he sang this song to her.
And now she is his wife!
Two things:
1) Austin’s solo channel, original song written by him, Earn It. You may literally faint.
2) The guys did a similar video with Chance as the soloist (guys singing backup). Cover Me Up. If you do that, let the video run after fade to black, it’s special.
Definitely record on the floor for Earn It.

Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.
I like his look here, too. The beard trimmed and the hair not as frizzy as more recently. None of which affects his voice ... which is incredibly appealing and rich!
Yes, they definitely did this on purpose. They dropped right before Valentine's Day two years ago. In the comments, Tim said that there would be a bunch of babies born nine months from now.

INHO this is Austin's best performance with Home Free. But his absolute best (so far) is his solo performance of Bring Him Home. You won't get the sexy looks into the camera, but I dare you to watch it and not cry.

I've never heard the Jimmy Bonds version of this song, so I'm not going to include this in my statement. But Home Free's cover of this song, for me, is better than any version I've ever heard before. This was shot during the COVID lockdown and Austin was in the studio with just his girlfriend. Every heterosexual female that sees this falls a little in love with Austin (including me).
I think you might have to share Austin with a few million other people! I've got a huge crush on him, and his talent is out of this world 🥰 I've watched this vid so many times, and all the others. I love Workin' for a Livin' - he's so funny. To be honest though, all the other guys are really cute in their own way too. But Austin.......dreamy sigh.
I have heard the comment that Percy's version was a man who was mad at how love affected him, Bolton's was a man who didn't really like women (not sure about this - I think it sounds like a guy who is straining too hard), and this was a man who was SOOO happy that he was deeply in love. Jimmy Barnes' sounds like a man in love, too, just a different approach.

When this showed up in my feed, my first thought was "Oh, this is gonna be good." And you did not disappoint. Every time you stopped and waxed poetic, I thought "Oh, sweetie, you ain't seen nothin' yet." Austin is very good at making love to the camera. Even heterosexual men get a little shiver from this one. I've never liked this song and I still don't, but the boys absolutely killed it. Amazing backing vocals, percussion perfection and, of course, Austin just sailing off into the stratosphere almost as an afterthought. You really need to do some of the solo stuff on his channel.

😆😅 GREAT reaction! Sub'd. 🥰 Yeah, there are videos out there just showing clips of women watching this video! Just shows you how effective HF was with this. I think the biggest thing that separates this one from the others is the attitude they've decided to portray. Some of the other versions seem to be (understandably) filled with angst and HF decided to present it in a different way. Austin could be saying, 'I am completely under your spell and I'm FINE with that'! 😂 Ohhh yes, Austin knew exactly what he was doing to us and I LOVE it! Just as they did in the "Butts Remix", there is this respect for women and they show it again here. In the Butts video you'll notice that they only showed male butts - not female. That was a conscious decision on their part and I LOVE them for that! A heart for each one of them. ❤❤❤❤❤

I've been a Home Fry since the Sing Off, & I've introduced them to every single person in my life bc they just are PERFECTION to me. It's like they just can't miss... every single song they do is the best version of that song.
You really need to listen to their original songs too, bc I was really scared they were gonna let me down & just not be as good on originals, but NOPE!!! THEIR ORIGINAL MUSIC IS JUST AS GOOD. Tim & Austin have written multiple songs individually, and maybe together or w/ the rest of the guys - hell maybe Rob, & the Adams (Rupp & Chance) have written music too? Not sure.
BUT- Their Album with all but 2 original songs was such a surprise to me!! It was FANTASTIC, & the fact they took their own songs & shared it with the group, even letting other members take lead on a songs written by a different person (ex: Tim wrote one that he doesn't take the lead on.) Just shows how devoted to the group & each other they are. I JUST LOVE THEM!!

I find it very surprising that there are no videos for probably the two most popular songs on the album, Playing with Fire (what a banger) and Stargazer Lilies. Instead we got that dumb squirrel song!
Between the earlier vids and this one, Austin did some what I call "romantic maturing". His vocal ability, with experience and time, has improved, but imo, his ability at expression of emotions his grown exponentially. Perhaps due to his relationship with his love, Amberly...who was actually there in the studio when it was recorded. You can periodically see him looking off to our left...that's where she is :) Nothing gets you in the feels like love!

Sorry to disagree but having heard the other versions you mention, I don't think this owes anything to anyone else. The defining characteristic of Austin's performance is joy and overflowing happiness (which is pretty much what he was feeling at that period) and his skill in conveying emotion makes us feel uplifted too. Technically this is perfect and his characteristic use of rubato is counterpointed by Adam's very creative percussion, emphatically there but never intrusive.
What a lot of people don't notice is Austin's sheer charisma - they mistake it for attraction. Part of it is charm (you've got a fair amount of that yourself) but charisma is something you either got or you don't. No matter what sort of performance you give, you command attention. This ridiculously talented man is also a fine actor (I persist in believing that he would have been a wow on Broadway) and in one video after another you'll see his range of expressions and ease of movement and gesture.
As I write, Austin is confined to bed with a painful recurrence of an old back injury. Get well soon, you hear? He is being looked after by his lady (same one he was singing to here) plus a houseful of dogs and cats.
The lyrics were reworked, and the focus turned from negative to positive. Sledge wrote this as a breakup song.

He’s just a great guy with a beautiful, kind, loving, caring heart, and he’s extremely talented. I love his work, both with the group and his solo stuff. When asked if he’d ever go solo, he said no, he wanted to stay with HF. He said when he was younger he always knew he would be with a group, as that was what he wanted, so who knows? Most of this song, Austin is still in chest or mixed head-chest, which is what gives it that robustness of sound. I have heard a member of Home Free do whistle notes, but it wasn't Austin, it was Adam Rupp, who has a humongous range when you include his throat bass. You kind of forget those high bird song notes and low drums are coming from a human throat sometimes.
OK, how many times have you watched this since your first reaction? I'm currently hooked on his cover of "Neon Moon" (on his own channel). One of the most beautiful songs ever written, to begin with, and Austin's version takes it into a different, much more emotional dimension.

I doubt they’ve heard the Jimmy version. They create their own treatment of every song, along with their producer, Darren Rust, whom they call the sixth member of Home Free. Austin’s girlfriend was in the studio and he looked at her at key moments in the song.
Everything they do is perfection, but when you have time, you should also watch some of their bloopers, like the "Colder Weather" memory lapse, and the "Ooops + Thinkin' Out Loud/Let's Get It On" mashup. These are from live shows and are so funny. These guys are great
