As one with a grandfather who has dementia, this is absolutely disgusting and disturbing. 9 years and you can’t find a “good charity”?! That’s why you partner with the charities BEFORE you begin advertising your fundraiser
Even if there truly arent good organizations, why tf couldnt they just say "hey we will be branching out, the money will start to go to many other types of organizations"?
A dollar 9 years ago is worth nowhere near as much as it is today due to inflation. If that money has been sitting in a bank account losing value year on year that's terrible.
My mom was diagnosed with dementia and for the first time ever she couldn’t remember who I was yesterday, I think it is by far the most painful experience I’ve ever been through thus far. Things really went downhill fast after we lost my dad.
You're not alone in your experience, it's one of the worst feelings out there. Always remember what they would really be saying if they weren't suffering from dementia. That they love you and want you to be happy. ❤
I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 I wish I had something encouraging or comforting to say that wasn't just a platitude... Dementia is one of the diseases that terrifies me the most.
She may not recognize you, but that doesn't diminish the love she still has for you. That will never go away, not even in her last moments. Stay strong, have faith, I will pray for you all. My grandma had dementia. I hadn't seen her in years as I had moved across the world and then country. I called her on her last day. I didnt expect anything, but she recognized me if but for a brief momemt. You will never truly loose her, and she will never truly forget you. In faith, she will await you and in faith you will reach her. May she have found the way, to the truth, so that she may receive life.
Wishing lots of love and happiness for you and your mother. My grandmother is also diagnosed with dementia and her dog recently passed, and it's been absolutely heartbreaking when she asks for him.
My dad passed from dementia 4 years ago. It’s such a horrific disease. He declined very quickly in part because of his PTSD stemming from the two tours he served in Vietnam. Everything happened so fast I was 36 when he passed and just had my first child a little boy who looks so much like him. Thank you for sharing about this on your platform. This actually made my stomach hurt listening to it. Why is the money sitting in a bank account for 9 years!?! They can donate that to a number of charities that help care for people and families struggling lot care for their loved ones suffering from this disease.
@@warlordofbritanniai believe people will keep supporting charity streams, but people who donated to open hands will probably think twice before donating again to another organization, which is good for them but sad for the real ones
Honestly, that's kinda of a good thing in a way. The sad reality is that 90% of charities out there are like this. You have to know EXACTLY where your money is going and WHAT it is going to be used for before you donate. Otherwise, it's nothing more than an empty virtue signal to make yourself feel good. In a way, this event is kind of a good lesson for a lot of people. Stop thoughtlessly donating to these big charities and instead think about donating DIRECTLY to someone and for a specific purpose where you know for sure what the money will be used for.
I watched my grandfather die by dementia. The hardest parts were when he would look at his hands in confusion, as if he didn't know what to do with them. It hurt so, so much.
my grandfather also passed from dementia. The worst part was when he forgot everyone in my family’s name but mine. His daughter, and both of my siblings. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I took an ethics class in college and did a project on the ethics of charities. REALLY opened my eyes to just how vile and misleading those organizations can be. ALWAYS DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. VET YOUR SOURCES BEFORE DONATING.
me and my wife got burned so we started our own connections - so, we have agreements with schools in poor areas to pay for feed programs with kids that were going hungry, and donating supplies - and make sure to show up from time to time to verify, as well as getting pictures of the work done giving isn't really an issue, but getting burned and finding out the money you gave to help others is being used in a BS way? that makes people bitter and not want to help anymore - and it's hard to get over that and try again (and gives the mentality of 'everyone is just trying to manipulate me... something you see prevalent in the west lately)
I never trust charities where the figure head is a celebrity because the charity is usually just to make them look good so if they ever do something bad they can pull the "but I donated ___ to charity so how can I be bad?" card.
The smoking gun for me is the fact that dude knew 8 years into running the charity that the money wasn’t being donated, and even after finding out he would continue to tout how they support all of these orgs that they gave zero money to.
And that’s assuming he’s actually being truthful when claiming he’s known about this since 2022. Considering the deception you’d be crazy to take him or anyone in his family involved in this at their word. Regardless we know for a fact that he knowingly lied for at least one fundraising event. That’s not a ‘mistake’, that’s purposeful fraud.
@@MDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMD That is a very stupid excuse to make. It's a reasonable expectation that when you are donating money at a fundraiser, the money will be spent as soon as the fundraiser's goals are met... and not after the universe's heat death
@@iainbreen7835this just happened over here. Some woman embezzled millions raised from the good will of the public toward her father. This woman was already very wealthy. She just had to have more.
@bangbrandon5800 It is. Dementia makes you forget even to the point you need carers to help you eat and drink. You pretty much forget how to function until it kills you.
My grandmother has dementia, she hasn't recognized me in over ten years. Thankfully she is a very kind and caring soul and tries not to make it seem like she doesn't forget, but I know she doesn't. She always asks where my grandfather who passed before I was born is and when she is "going home" (she hasn't lived in her old house for six years). Dementia is a crippling disease, for everyone involved.
@DaFuqBoeoummake better content and game the algorithm then. I get recommended no name content constantly, if you're not popping on the current algorithm and want success before art (which if you're begging you clearly do) then reassess what you're doing.
This is the double edge sword of watching Charlie. One minute he's talking about cringe and sitting there giggling and clapping then the next minute a beloved person is in hot water and we're all sad.
I remember back in Charlie's early days when I was just a young lad where he donated every penny he earned from youtube to various charities. Props to you Charlie for forever staying authentic
The worst part is that people forget about inflation. From the recorded donations each year from 2014-2022, after you factor in the price of inflation of each year, that comes to *$102,489* that just vanished because of depreciation. I don't know how anyone can say that this doesn't harm anyone: they wasted $102,489 and 10 years' worth of dementia research, and that's EXCLUDING the $125,395 they kept for their own "expenses".
When you put it that way they are technically stealing peoples money. When I donate to a charity I expect that money to be going ASAP like within weeks after donating or at the most a few months, not years after or decades.
@@cjc872 Good point, could even be the whole purpose of the scam - that way they could have their cake and eat it - not spending the money while profiting off it 🤔
@@mohammedhussain6749 When many charities turn out to be scams, it feels like you are just handing money over to people who are rich when you thought your money would at least be partially funding something. It isn't selfish to say I want my money that I sent to a dementia charity to be given to some kind of dementia research or memory care facility. At least most of it. I know charities have operation costs, but a private jet is not an operation cost.
What a bizarre and sad situation. Not only does it tank his reputation as a charitable content creator, it makes the general audience more doubtful of other promoted fundraisers, which can hurt how much money research groups/charities get and slow their goals. 9 years is a long time to simultaneously be running charity events but not be donating anything, very suspicious on it's own even if nothing was withdrawn directly.
the saddest part is if they WERE donating the money as they got it, they would have made considerable strides in the research and fight against dementia. they might be donating it now, but they could have been active in the fight for 10 YEARS; what a large amount of time gone to waste :( edit: since I have a lot of people being smartasses but a couple that want to try to correct me, yes, me saying considerable was a bit of an exaggeration. I also have pessimists basically saying it doesn't matter when he donates because 600K still doesn't matter that much, but that isn't the point. my point with this is that, no matter how I worded it, he still sat on the money for 10 years instead of doing something with it
@@existskk99none of the money was invested in anything afaik, so any interest they gained will be miniscule compared to how the value of the dollar has decreased sadly
$600,000 might be a lot for a single person but in the grand scheme and over the course of 10 years it's not a lot of money so I don't think it would have made any ground breaking strides but this is still very questionable
Honestly. You're basically in a constant grieving state over someone who hasn't even passed because most of the time, depending the severity, they aren't the same person you knew before... Especially stroke victims who suffer from it. This whole thing is shameful.
I was willing to accept this as an unfortunate mistake until they got into the operational costs not actually being listed, and how they vary greatly from year to year. That's the biggest, reddest flag I've ever seen.
Or the fact that *NOTHING* makes sense... So he HAS experience in donating in the past. So he understands there has to be some degree of correspondence. But he assumed that it was being donated... by itself? But how are you withdrawing money for "operational costs" EVERY FUCKING YEAR from said account and not noticing the balance lmao. AND THEN he changes his story that he hasn't found the right organization yet and this goes aaaaall the way back to BEFORE he even started collecting money? So how are you name dropping all these organizations that you've been "supporting" all these years? So again, it's just a full circle of bullshit.
The Completionist is like a kid standing on the pool deck during swim class waiting for the perfect moment to jump in the water, but he’s been standing on the deck half the class and now the coaches are calling his parents
this happened to me when i was 5 on the *tall* diving board except the life guards had to pick me up, screaming and crying, and throw me in the pool themselves. and honestly, that's what i hope happens in this situation
More like the kid has been telling everyone for ten years how many times he jumped in and in what great forms, and it turns out he never did. And now someone pushes him in, he does a colossal belly flop and is now actively crying and pissing in the pool for everyone to see.

As a person who’s watched my once very independent, creative grandma turn into almost a complete stranger as a result of dementia, I think this is just ridiculous. My grandma’s dementia has gotten so bad that I’ve had to leave work and drive an hour to her house to take her to the ER because she forgets to eat. Her dogs have to get buzzed because of how matted they get. My parents are having a tough time sending her to community senior living because she’s threatening to kill herself if they do. This all started happening in the past year. If this guy knows how awful watching your loved one go through dementia is, I can’t understand why he’s keeping thousands that could help others going through it now. I really, really hope this situation goes forward in the right direction.
on the senior center. Take her to some. Yes some are nightmares. But ive moved people into assisted living places and some are Nice. They have a community, can make friends, have things to do. The most memorable one was an airforce pilot and his wife. A maybe 700 sq foot apartment in a pretty nice assisted living place. They were excited
With my Grandma we were able to find kind of a group home type place, maybe she would be more open to that? It was maybe 4 other patients in a large house and there was somebody there with them 24/7. It wasn't like a nursing home at all and instead of leaving for constant doctor visits they had a doctor come once a week or so to evaluate them all. I don't know if this is a possibility where you are but the place we found my Grandma worked really well when my family wasn't able to manage her care safely alone anymore. Edit: Also, her social security and insurance covered the entire cost, so we weren't having to worry about that and they allowed her to have visitors daily etc.
The most upsetting part about this is he could have chosen to not do fundraising streams if he genuinely couldn’t find a good charity to donate the money to. This is a situation that could have been avoided entirely if he just didn’t fundraise without having a clue where the money would go to.
This is like the Froot situation. Froot a vtuber from VShojo donated money to a Trans charity. The problem was that the charity had ties to a pedo ring.
That's the most upsetting???? Not that he took money under the pretense it was going to VERY SPECIFIC places when he knew it wasn't??? If he "couldn't find anywhere" he wouldn't be doing streams saying it's going to specific places when he knew it wasn't... There is zero chance this is just some honest mistake, ZERO..... He did streams knowing exactly where it was going, his pocket.

Understanding the effect of inflation over these last years, it actually means that if he donates the money now, that money is worth less than what it would have been worth if he had donated every year for every fundraiser. Even assuming negligence, this negligence has worked against his cause which is just plain awful
Good point I was just thinking yesterday about all the things that were less than half their current price not even 5 years ago, and how much would be saved if things had been bought back then at those prices
Yeah, money has gone down about 20% in value than it was back in 2014. They got at least 100k every year in donations, but whatever they got back then would only be worth about 80k now. Their whole 600k now would've been worth about 750k then. And even if they donated it all now, it doesn't help that 10 years of research funding was basically squandered.

Idk what he could say to make this better tbh.
My Na died 3 years ago as well. She had demetia, it was hard seeing her get lost in her memories, harder still for us to routinely get her back from that maze. The thing that peeves me off is that he knew about it and just sat on the money. My great grandmas dementia has just started getting worse. My birthday was on the 4th and on Sunday at church i walked up to give her a hug and she asked me "Who are you?" Needing multiple people to remind her broke my heart. 7:03 no you can’t see that the money is sitting in that account. That’s just what they wrote down on the tax form. It’s been a week and the guy is still radio silent and we have not seen any receipts for this money. This is not looking good.
*This was so sad to hear about. But this is also why I don't donate to RUclipsrs or any Podcaster.* I just rather donate straight to the charity's themselves. No middle man.
My jaw genuinely fell when you said the completionist. Jirard was one of those creators I always perceived as down to earth and not problematic. I don’t even know what excuse he could come up with that would explain why the money is just sitting in an account instead of being donated for so long
The working theory I have and I've seen others have now as well in his minor defense is that they were trying to make what's called a "restricted" donation to charities, which involves the money donated being restricted to certain use cases such as using it to fund specifically treatments or equipment. The problem is that those kinds of donations are usually unavailable unless the amount donated is high enough to make the demand, and would otherwise would just allow the charity to have unlimited access for use with the charity. I think it explains the funds sitting there, even if it doesn't negate the fact that they didn't make the people donating aware of that fact. Highly negligent at the least. The interview itself from Muta and Karl don't touch on that but it feels like it was likely mentioned in it with them. There are some missing pieces here still for sure, but I asked an accountant family member what a reason for holding charity funds like that would be and they immediately asked me if they were making restricted or unrestricted donations. So at least on the accounting front it seems there's some kind of explanation.
If there was a good explanation, it would’ve been given during the interview. If the money was being responsibly handled then the explanation would’ve been simple and honest with the names and details to back it up, and people would believe it. The reason we’re sat weighing his credibility is because the given explanation is subpar. I would say that’s because it’s a lie. Also, the more time that passes before we get a video from him coming forward about all this the less I’m going to believe him. It’s not like he needs to find any receipts.

I think it's pretty crazy to think that for 9 years this has just been going unnoticed even though the records are public and the behavior has been going on since the beginning
That is why charities have to make their data public, for us to avoid such scams. Sadly nobody seemed to take advantage of this and actually look it up before donating.
@@StriKe_jk Yeah - this is a lot more common than I suppose people realize. There are LARGE organizations that you probably know about who publicly use VERY LITTLE of their donations for actual charity work - yet people still donate.
As someone who has lost a family member to Alzhiemers, this situation is heartbreaking. It's already a tough ailment for everyone involved, I can't imagine what the people who donated in honor and/or memory of loved ones must be feeling right now. My heart goes out to everyone affected
Just to be clear, it isn't an "accusation" when they flat out admit that this is true. They just dispute whether or not it is a big deal. Jirard comes off horrible in that call with the boys. Trying to turn it around on them for clout chasing and such. Sounds like he is whipping stuff up on the spot, just bad. I don't think I have heard yet what the tip-off was that caused them to look into it. Something must have come up that made them go sniffing.
The whole situation is incredibly bizarre. How hard is it to donate to a reputable dementia benefactor? There's plenty of them out there that are much more reputable than their own org. Plus the fact that they are saying that the donations are going to specific organizations but none has been donated to them thus far. Like Charlie and the original reporting stated, lots of red flags.
@@TimothyCHenderson Yeah, the weird thing to me is it's not like Jirad gained anything from this either. He never took money from the charity he just left it there and didn't donate it. It seems like it was just laziness. He says it's becasue he wanted to find one that would do good research so he doesn't get "burned". But I'd assume that the ones he list out in his live steams are reputable becasue why else would he mention them.
This kinda hits close to home, since my dad has dimentia. Shit like that genuinely needs to be researched more thurely then it already is. It feels like you just can't do anything about it rn
When I heard they scammed them from a dementia charity it made me seethe . My great grandmother died of dementia and for them to take advantage of people who are trying to go towards that cause of helping towards the fight against dementia is so low and disgusting
sounds extremely like fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud, since they not only haven't donated a penny, but also told people it was donated and the college site said it was donated.
I think one of the really big issues with this and an aspect that I havent heard anybody mention is that just because he didn't spend the money, that doesn't mean he hasnt been wasting it. Because of inflation, even if he donates everything now, the buying power of all that money has dropped substantially since it was donated. It has literally become worth less just by him not spending it. If he had been donating it as it came in like he promised, the charity would've been able to do more with it
And just because he hasn't spent it *yet* doesn't mean that that wasn't the ultimate goal. It's entirely possible that the plan was to just keep gathering money, using the whole "operating costs" thing to slowly siphon money out of the account, and then just pocketing the rest of it later, after they feel like they've made enough, using some excuse. Though to be fair, I don't think that was the case, or at the very least, that the scam part would've been the brother's idea and the RUclipsr would likely have been kept in the dark. But who knows.
@@PeksisarvinenYeah I dont think it was purposefully malicious unless Jirard actively wanted to sabotage his career for some reason. I think hes just really stupid.
They called the foundation 'Open Hand', which was fairly appropriate considering they open-hand slapped their donators right in the face by doing this.
Yeah it's a slap in the face to the donators and to a lesser extent, the people that were fans of him. And it's absolutely a slap in the face to their mom who died from dementia.
It was such a bomb shell when I saw Karl and Mutahar talking about Jirard. You can never expect when or how these controversies show up, but man, it sucks when the curtain is opened and the person revealed is someone you know. Now charities, which were already questionable at their handling of money, have now been further incriminated by Jirard's lack of commitment. The trust towards the Completionist and RUclipsr's charity work will have more weight to the question as to whether they're scamming you or not.
“Someone you know” Lol, lmao. We don’t know any of these people, not even Charlie. RUclipsrs are just people, and people make bad, greedy, heinous decisions sometimes.
It's weird how the argument they chose was that they haven't found the right charity and they didn't add like anything about interest. Like if you have 600k or whatever it was sitting in an account, most banks give you back some form of interest over time for large amounts of money. They could've easily claimed they're looking for the right charity while letting the donation money gain interest. It still wouldn't make sense why it's taken 9 years, but it would make more sense than them just not having a charity determined yet. Like ?
This sucks to hear cause even if they donate, the money and the time are just worth less. Imagine if one of these promised benefactors got like 40K a year from this, much more would've gotten done if they had just stuck to their promises. And even if the money gets donated, due to the economy it's simply just worth less now so it hurts even more seeing how this has played out :(
Yeah even if he did a 180 and donated it today the inflation rate between then and now has already slashed the worth of the money by about 102,000 dollars
Honestly the way Gerard explained himself was like me trying to explain how porn was in my phone to my mom way back when Trying to mitigate how bad it looks with a last minute excuse

This is why respectable RUclipsrs work directly WITH charities, rather than "collecting money to give to them later" The example that comes to mind is MatPat/Game Theory's St. Jude livestreams
The simple question is why they weren't being honest? They could have said, at ANY stage, we have yet to pick the charities as we're fearful of misuse of funds. That is absolutely fine. When they actually state that its going places they know it's not going. IDK how anyone can assume they had good intent. You only lie and not tell the truth to cover up bad things.
I agree with everyone saying Logan Paul but that guy didn't get into too much trouble for filming a suicide victim and laughing about it so I think Logan Paul, aka Cancellations Georg, who avoids getting cancelled for heinous shit 1,000 times a year, is an outlier and should not have been counted
the levels of fucking up on this situation is so huge that there is absolutely no way his charities will ever get supported after this. this feels like the dumbest form of negligence
As someone who's grandad died from dementia and has a grandma who's been suffering from dementia for decades, this is disheartening. Feeling sorry for those who donated.

I was left trying my best to explain a condition that nobody seemed to have much understanding of to my younger brother so that he could understand what was going on which was a near impossible feat. All we knew for sure is that on Christmas day when we were about 5-6 years old, our mother drove to the next town over 2 minutes away to pick her up to have Christmas dinner as a family, opened the door due to lack of response and found grandma at the bottom of the stairs unresponsive. She had multiple strokes in the ambulance, and we spent the majority of our Christmas that year in a hospital waiting room playing dominos. By the time we saw her, it was already clear that she was not the same person anymore. The point of sharing part of her story here is to underline to people that may not have an experience with a loved one with dementia to relate to that those of us that have been forced to watch them degrade mentally in ways we could have never expected or wanted would give just about anything to have even just one more day, an hour, or another few minutes where they're okay again. We donate to dementia and alzheimers research charities because we don't want anybody else to face this hell. We don't want to go through it all again with another loved one. And by donating to research we hope to find a treatment that lessens the suffering of people diagnosed with these conditions, or even in the very small remote possibility, a possible cure, literally any progress is good progress at this point. To see a charity be so careless about the cause they claim to support is disgusting to me. I'm sorry but it does not take 9 years to figure out where to donate your money to. If there is no reputable enough research place, there are plenty of places that actively care for sufferers of dementia and alzheimers like carehomes and dementia villages that I'm sure would very much appreciate funding. You could donate it to a university hospital, literally anywhere. 600K is not going to be the funding that results in a cure or fully researches an effective form of treatment, but it will at least get us closer to finishing or expanding upon the current research, and marginal difference is way better than none. $125,395 for what expenses exactly? When it seems like all your charity does is just forward the money onto places that actually do research? And you don't even forward the money or seemingly do any research enough to figure out where to donate to in 9 years, so what admin work is there to do?
@@syrasmine It isn't really watching them die weirdly. The longer you've been in their life, the more likely you are to be remembered by them, and the opposite is true as well. When my grandmother forgot me, she still somewhat remembered my mother. Similarly, when she had the short period of clarity just before the end of her life, she remembered my mother before she remembered us grandkids, and when she remembered us it was from when we were many years younger before she had the strokes on Christmas. When she was in the disease, from the classes my mother was telling me about that she took to better inform herself of the disease (since little was and still is known about it), the condition is more of an age regression if that makes sense? She went from being 60 something back to being about 5-6 years old. All throughout she remembered her parents like they were alive and well, and when her favourite music was played she knew the lyrics exactly without having to be reminded once. Any memories made later than her childhood (such as us, and our mother obviously) were gradually forgotten completely in reverse order. She remembered us grandkids at the start but slowly forgot everybody in reverse order of when we existed. It's like growing older but watching the relative who's likely older than you grow younger and younger to the point where they lose all of the regular skills we take for granted and require around the clock care, kind of like they're actually 5-6 years old again but regress instead of progress. I think there's a lot of misconception about dementia because it's difficult for people who haven't personally been there for somebody going through it to imagine what it might look like or rationalize it. It's more simple for people that aren't good at explaining it to summarize it as "they just forget everything" but that isn't entirely true. Yes, from the perspective of an outsider looking in it feels like you're communicating with a shell of your loved one, and I guess in that way it can kind of feel like they're a dead person talking because you eventually come to accept that this is the way it is now and have likely been told it can only worsen. I think expressing this view, as genuine as it may feel to you personally, is very harmful to how other people may perceive people with dementia like they're some type of lost cause or they're no longer the same person. This is why even though I personally felt that way and was one of few reasons why I made the "rational" choice to distance myself from that situation by stopping visiting when I was younger, I refuse to share that sentiment now when retelling her story. I ran into many elderly people in that care home that suffered from the same condition, whose families refused to visit or just outright abandoned them because they had that view and they were left there alone. We would also visit a few of those residents briefly when we came to see grandma, they didn't get to see kids often so they mistook us for their grandkids (for those that were in earlier stages of their condition I guess) or some nice neighbourhood kids that enjoyed coming over to chat. Even though they never truly remembered you, you could always see that when you were in the moment interacting with them they would have a certain type of look in their eye and you would just know that beneath the very debilitating condition(s) that the person was genuinely happy and comfortable in those moments. It's admittedly devastating when your loved one's condition progresses to the point where they completely forget you, but it's very easy to forget due to being overcome which such emotions that you're not regularly visiting them for yourself anymore when they have this condition. Death of those you love the most is almost always traumatic in some way, regardless of how far in advance you're aware of it. It's devastating when somebody suddenly passes, and it's devastating when somebody passes after years of being told they will die, even if we hold the belief that death ensures peace. I guess that part can't be avoided. Grandma wouldn't have wanted to go out in the way that she did, but since she did I figure it's better to spread better information using her story, at least this way she didn't suffer through those years for nothing. Perhaps somebody with a family member with this condition will happen to find and read through this one day and have a different perspective that helps them better understand and support their loved one. That's my hope.
I'm.. so sorry for your loss... Dementia is a *really* scary thing that could literally happen to anyone. I hope you are at peace and are doing ok. I wonder if you have more to say about it? I feel like you need to let it out more than you should.
It was super awkward to hear him gripe about wanting his money to go straight to research when his own charity is clearly using money for "operating expenses." And that money isn't collecting cobwebs, it's probably collecting interest, which continues to be my sore spot.
Is there any chance they're rying to accrue the interest so they can make an eventually larger donation ? I guess the operational costs issue makes that not very likely
@@hoodedman6579well, if its interest from like a bank obviously but if its invested in stocks theres a good chance it will go up more than inflation Thats clearly not whats going on here though, they would need to have it all publicly listed as long term (or short term) investments on their financial statements and im sure it would be brought up in this video if they did that

Same bro. I want to hear his full video and any proof but regardless it's not good and it makes no sense that he still held Indieland 2023 after the fact he knew about the situation.
I posted this comment on other videos, but my biggest issue I have is that he mention in the interview that he only found out about money wasn't going anywhere about a year ago. Even if it turns out he was unaware this whole time the money wasn't going anywhere he still kept quite about it and he still told people the money was going somewhere when he did another charity run. I don't know about most people, but if I found out the charity I ran didn't send out any money in more then a decade, I would put any work I was doing on hold until I get this issue fixed, and what's more I would make a public apology instantly telling what I found out and how I will try and fix the massive mistake I made. Instead of staying quite and just hope no one discovered the mess up and then call me out on it. Course sense Jared didn't do that and its only when his mistake is called out by someone else, any attempts of him apologizing and getting his side of the story (even if its true he just F-Up) is gonna be taken with a massive grain of salt by a lot of people, cause you got caught with what you did.
"Just tell me where you want the money to go and I'll donate it " implies that that was never the intention in the first place and he really did plan on pocketing it.
False, pocketing it would be public record and get him imprisoned, and he knows that. It shows that he is overly concerned with his public image and channel's reputation, which is fairly understandable given how even petty drama over inconsequential mistakes wrecks channels these days. No malicious motivation makes sense if you think it through, he has just displayed negligence and a fear of transparency.
My Grandfather passed due to dementia back in 2016 myself and my mum would look after him before he was in a home and it was horrible seeing him not knowing who he or anyone else was, this is disgusting behaviour.
I mean at least he's not stealing it. It is a known problem how difficult it is to find a reputable charity but that is an excuse that will buy you a year not a decade
@@biglc034 It's crazy that this is the only comment I saw about the money only being "reported." There is no proof that the money is there, and that's putting aside the absolutely astonishing operational cost, for a foundation that does nothing. More than likely just paying themselves for "promotion of the charity." I mean they already should have lost their non profit status by not donating 5% of net gains. It kills me that they are giving him the benefit of doubt that the money is even still there because he is a "beloved RUclipsr." It just makes the whole bunch look rotten. Everyone need to stop protecting their status, and call out these frauds.
Also, due to inflation, they money that was donated years ago is worth a fraction of what it is worth today, so, yes, he stole it. It doesn't matter if he kept or used any of it. He might as well have withdrawn some of the money, piled it up in his back yard and tossed a match on it.
That fear of teaming up with a bad charity is definitely real. I remember when that Mr Beast well drama was happening there was another charity that was salty about a white person building all those wells in Africa, and then it was found out that they spent 80% of donations they received on their own paychecks. But even so, that fear shouldn’t stop you from finding someone to partner with after 9 years!!! This really just feels like extreme procrastination.
You don't even really need a legitimate partner. The charity's website even noted the universities research programs they were supposedly donating to. The thing is you can practically freely donate to these programs there aren't that many hoops in funneling donations to these institutions. I'd understand the trust issues if the programs were unknown but university studies are some of the primary sources of these beneficial programs and are some of the only beneficiaries you can easily trust.
The thing that sticks in my craw is how they claim expenses in one giant bucket, and that's it. I'm one lone dude running a tiny eBay store, and yet I keep diligent, detailed records of any and all expenses. Hell, I use a 100% FREE program (Airtable) to do so, even uploading receipt scans and tagging with transaction IDs. If I can do that, then there's no reason in the world an entire ORGANIZATION shouldn't be itemizing their expenses.
Pretty sure "expenses" is the word used in the form submitted that they get from the goverment. They could have their expenses itemized, but I don't recall anyone saying if someone asked them for an expenses breakdown.

The Completionist is like a kid standing on the pool deck during swim class waiting for the perfect moment to jump in the water, but he’s been standing on the deck half the class and now the coaches are calling his parents
More like the rest of the class has already graduated college and he’s still just standing there.
this happened to me when i was 5 on the *tall* diving board except the life guards had to pick me up, screaming and crying, and throw me in the pool themselves. and honestly, that's what i hope happens in this situation
More like he is standing there thinking of a way to keep his trophy he got by cheating in the swimming tournament

It’s insane how much money these assisted living places charge per month.
@@arena_sniper7869 that’s the other issue with my family, nobody can afford it right now
With my Grandma we were able to find kind of a group home type place, maybe she would be more open to that? It was maybe 4 other patients in a large house and there was somebody there with them 24/7. It wasn't like a nursing home at all and instead of leaving for constant doctor visits they had a doctor come once a week or so to evaluate them all. I don't know if this is a possibility where you are but the place we found my Grandma worked really well when my family wasn't able to manage her care safely alone anymore. Edit: Also, her social security and insurance covered the entire cost, so we weren't having to worry about that and they allowed her to have visitors daily etc.
@@Emobunneh I’ll have to look into that, thank you!
The most upsetting part about this is he could have chosen to not do fundraising streams if he genuinely couldn’t find a good charity to donate the money to. This is a situation that could have been avoided entirely if he just didn’t fundraise without having a clue where the money would go to.
Especially after he said he found out in 2020 or 2021 ( don't remember exactly when he stated) yet he still continued to do so.

@@TheDragonSeer You're not wrong. That's why I only have a select few I actually did research on.
Which other Normalboots member/former membewr is next on the controversy chopping block? Haven't heard anything about PBG yet
it gives them an excuse to pocket the money as "operational cost" while being able to say "hey we didnt steal the money, it's almost all still there!"

That is why charities have to make their data public, for us to avoid such scams. Sadly nobody seemed to take advantage of this and actually look it up before donating.
Thus far the things in their financials are not really red flags. The issue comes from what the streamer and website is claiming versus actuality
@@StriKe_jk Yeah - this is a lot more common than I suppose people realize. There are LARGE organizations that you probably know about who publicly use VERY LITTLE of their donations for actual charity work - yet people still donate.

I don't think I have heard yet what the tip-off was that caused them to look into it. Something must have come up that made them go sniffing.
When you are reporting on something to the public, you call it an accusation to be safe from defamation.
The whole situation is incredibly bizarre. How hard is it to donate to a reputable dementia benefactor? There's plenty of them out there that are much more reputable than their own org. Plus the fact that they are saying that the donations are going to specific organizations but none has been donated to them thus far. Like Charlie and the original reporting stated, lots of red flags.

sounds extremely like fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud, since they not only haven't donated a penny, but also told people it was donated and the college site said it was donated.
If he had been donating it as it came in like he promised, the charity would've been able to do more with it
That's... True, granted that part isn't his fault, keeping the money for so long is definitely on him though

“Someone you know”
Lol, lmao.

A lot of the psychos, sociopaths, and scammers are “well likeable people.”
Look at the pathology and profiles over time that the FBI and other feds have investigated. It’s how they rack up their victims. It’s easier to do what your shit is if you’re present to be “well likeable” and also breezes off first hand suspicions.
My grandmother had dementia, and I had no choice but to watch her, at a very young age, slip away gradually, slowly forget everyone and everything, and had the constant reminder from everyone around me that there was absolutely nothing that anybody could do about it. The way she suffered as a result was something that was so dystopian and disturbing to me that even multiple years after her passing those disturbing memories are more vivid than any other.
@@SeamusLeGris I hope not, because that would just be stupid; inflation would devalue the money faster than the interest would increase it.
@@hoodedman6579 haha right. I forgot about that
I'm super financially literate 😬
@@SeamusLeGris 9 years just way too long.
@@hoodedman6579well, if its interest from like a bank obviously but if its invested in stocks theres a good chance it will go up more than inflation
Thats clearly not whats going on here though, they would need to have it all publicly listed as long term (or short term) investments on their financial statements and im sure it would be brought up in this video if they did that
As someone who donated to The Completionist’s fundraiser, I am really distraught.
Get noobed 😂
@@Squrrl99 dude.
@@Squrrl99Stop. You’re not funny. Your joke isn’t funny. This situation is not funny.
@@Squrrl99this isnt a joke
The only thing funny here is people who trust rich people online
Something interesting I've seen brought up is the question whether they even still have the money or just claim to have it to the IRS and so on.
I was a subscriber of the completionist before he ever hit 100k. I don't really watch all of his videos but I would check on the channel from time to time and was happy to see how well the completionist had done growing it. also always seemed like a great dude. Very sad to hear
Yep there's some sketchy stuff going on here. He's definitely lying or trying to cover for somebody.
Yeah, while we need more investigation and evidence before we knew what really happen, it's already clear we can't trust his story
"Just tell me where you want the money to go and I'll donate it " implies that that was never the intention in the first place and he really did plan on pocketing it.
And collecting on the interest in a high yield savings account over years, which went in his pocket.
What makes it so confusing is, it's literally just sitting there doing nothing. like why? is it procrastination? I can't really understand it
@@flames45you don’t know it’s even there
False, pocketing it would be public record and get him imprisoned, and he knows that. It shows that he is overly concerned with his public image and channel's reputation, which is fairly understandable given how even petty drama over inconsequential mistakes wrecks channels these days. No malicious motivation makes sense if you think it through, he has just displayed negligence and a fear of transparency.
@@omensoffate Isn't it public record?
My Grandfather passed due to dementia back in 2016 myself and my mum would look after him before he was in a home and it was horrible seeing him not knowing who he or anyone else was, this is disgusting behaviour.
I don’t know what’s worse, how strange it is that they haven’t blatantly overcharged admin? Or that 600K would barely buy a MRI machine.
That disease has affected my family terribly an I hope we can find a way to stop it. These scams are making that dream more and more distant
I mean at least he's not stealing it. It is a known problem how difficult it is to find a reputable charity but that is an excuse that will buy you a year not a decade
He’s charged operational costs so arguably he is stealing it
@@ganymedehedgehog371 Also the money is "reportedly" still there sitting in an account, until there is an audit I don't buy it.
@@biglc034 It's crazy that this is the only comment I saw about the money only being "reported." There is no proof that the money is there, and that's putting aside the absolutely astonishing operational cost, for a foundation that does nothing. More than likely just paying themselves for "promotion of the charity."
I mean they already should have lost their non profit status by not donating 5% of net gains.
I mean, I doubt that money is really there. Could be just a placeholder number
My grandmother has dementia and this makes me really sick to hear that this has been happening
Really well said
@@charliekelly735haaaaahhh
You don't even really need a legitimate partner. The charity's website even noted the universities research programs they were supposedly donating to. The thing is you can practically freely donate to these programs there aren't that many hoops in funneling donations to these institutions. I'd understand the trust issues if the programs were unknown but university studies are some of the primary sources of these beneficial programs and are some of the only beneficiaries you can easily trust.
This is exactly why I never flinch when I hit “no” on the pad at grocery stores.
@@roadogscthe gov requires a very basic form, but you CAN give a very very detailed one, how like other actual charities do it
Gonna be a painful audit 😂
Dedication, I love that
His responses in the interview calls seemed so...hostile to me. Like he was caught just doing an oopsie and got mad at it being brought up. 😭
This is why if I’m ever gonna donate to charity I’ll do it directly not through RUclipsrs
Then at least you won't be double paying for "operating expenses".
Man that sucks hopefully things end up fixed

The weird thing is... the money is just sitting there. Outside of incompetence, the only other thing I can think that is nefarious is that they MIGHT be sitting on the money until the nonprofit one day fades out of memory and then the people behind it use the money for their retirement. I can't think of anything else, really. I'm HOPING that this is just incompetentance...
The other nefarious thing is what exactly is *expenses*? Could they be inflating the expenses costs and taking money from that?
@renatoism It's a shame they put themselves in the situation to be scrutinized. If they're "innocent" and were just incompetent, they could have avoided all of this while also helping improve science. So many potential unintended consequences...
My nana is currently in a home with dementia, it is a horrible disease that tears families apart, especially if you can’t care for them. I was forced to lock my doors and sneak around the house I once felt comfortable in. This is a terrible situation.
